Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept within a solid containment cube comprised of ██████ and titanium alloy mixtures. Cube must have a single, air-tight door consisting of the same material on one side. Door must be chained shut using brass-plated 1/2" stainless steel cast iron 3/4 chain and padlocked with a standard single-key padlock heavy duty padlock, of which the key must be kept contained within ████████ at Site ██. Cube is to be placed within a dark room, atop a single wooden stool. One thermal-sensitive motion camera is to be placed in a corner of this room. No personnel are to be within room at any time, excluding approved research experiments. Any non-expendable personnel who come into contact with SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-1, or it's containment cube for any amount of time are to be pulled immediately for psychological evaluations.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a large book that appears to be comprised entirely of human flesh. Afixed within the middle is a single human eye. The sclera of the eyeball is an unnatural crimson color, and the iris is green with dots of blood speckled throughout. Occasionally, the book will pulsate and the eye will glow red. This, however, seems not to alter how SCP-XXXX or SCP-XXXX-1 affect subjects.

SCP-XXXX was discovered by a research team in an ancient ruin in the ██████ Mountains. A rescue unit, led by Cpl. Adam ██████, was dispatched after the team made no contact for five days. A secondary rescue unit, headed by SSgt. Landon █'██████ was required after the primary team made no contact for 38 hours. Upon discovery of both the researchers, the rescue team, and SCP-XXXX, the SSgt. and his unit immediately withdrew and the foundation was contacted.

Upon first interaction, SCP-XXXX, as gruesome in appearance, appears to prove no ill effects. However, once a subject reads the transcription or is exposed to SCP-XXXX for longer than five minutes, they enter a catatonic state of which they cannot be revived. It is at this point that SCP-XXXX-1 is released. SCP-XXXX-1 is a dark, humanoid figure1 who will appear in the consciousness of anyone affected by SCP-XXXX. Subjects report that SCP-XXXX-1 slowly stalks you through your subconscious, traveling across the 'dreams' you have whilst in the state. Very few subjects have returned from this catatonia, and little is known about SCP-XXXX-1 due to this fact. However, subjects who have awoken claimed they had to elude SCP-XXXX-1 until they returned to consciousness. The few subjects that survived encountering SCP-XXXX-1 were all found dead via asphyxiation less than week after exposure.

Subjects who do not awake from their catatonia often remain dormant for around 45 minutes, before suddenly convulsing violently for around five minutes. It is at this point that afflicted subjects rise to a seated position and open their eyes (which are now replaced by eyes much like that on SCP-XXXX). The subject remains frozen in this position for around ten seconds, before top section of the subjects skull explodes with great force. A caustic black slime is produced from this explosion, and often covers the subjects surrounding area, leaving any research samples compromised or completely destroyed. Subject's life functions and any affects of SCP-XXXX/-1 cease at this point.

Footnote: 1 Although subjects report SCP-XXXX-1 to wear some form of wide brimmed hat, all subjects who have gotten within close proximity claim that SCP-XXXX-1 is nothing more than a silhouette of darkness.

Addendum: Note: Due to the unknown and unpredictable nature of experiments delving into the human subconscious, all further research upon SCP-XXXX and/or SCP-XXXX-1 has been halted per O5 ██, unless otherwise approved.
