Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Threat Level: Green

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be placed in a small containment locker at Site-63. This locker is to be guarded by at least two armed security personnel at all times. Due to the possibility of reversal of amnesics, SCP-XXXX must only be used for testing, which must be authorized by a Level 4 personnel.

Attempts to regain memories with SCP-XXXX without prior notice is grounds for disciplinary measures, followed by the application of appropriate amnesics.

The lid that contains SCP-XXXX-1 should be checked regularly, and screwed on tightly if loose in any way. If the lid is found to be off for any reason, gas masks are required before placing lid back on SCP-XXXX, to prevent a memory overload. A replacement screw-on lid is nearby when necessary.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small transparent perfume bottle that is constructed of glass and plastic. It contains 5 oz. of a clear liquid substance that consists of water, alcohol, and glycerol. This substance is referred to as SCP-XXXX-1.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX-1 begin to materialize when smelled by a human any being with the capability to smell. Through an unknown chemical change in SCP-XXXX-1, the odor that is picked up changes, being completely different for every individual. The smell will be something that is described as familiar to the individual, that leads to the individual to remember a forgotten memory.

Testing of SCP-XXXX-1 has shown that this can bring back memories that were lost due to amnesia and Alzheimer's, as well as other forms of dementia. This also [REDACTED] which explains why SCP-XXXX-1 can also restore memories subsequent to the administration of amnesics, of any class. The memories that are restored are random, no way of picking which memory is brought back has been discovered.

Memories that are regained by SCP-XXXX-1 are not forgotten, and retain with the individual for some time. Considering the nature of recovered memories, (important, traumatic, or valuable moments in a subjects life), those restored may be related to the subjective value held by the affected individual.

Addendum XXXX-A: The following is a log of all tests relating to the memory-restoring function of SCP-XXXX. For each subject, SCP-XXXX was sprayed close to the face. Note that every claim thus far has been confirmed to be legitimate fact.

Subject fell back in fear, describing the smell as [REDACTED]. This proves that the memory brought back can be controlled to some degree. This also proves that SCP-XXXX-1 can in fact reverse the effects of amnesics.

Addendum XXXX-B: On ██/██/201█, the lid that contains SCP-XXXX-1 was found removed for an unknown reason. When Dr. ███████ went to investigate, about 1 oz. of SCP-XXXX-1 spilled onto the floor, and the smell was described by Dr. ███████ as "like every single memory, every horrible and amazing and overwhelming event all happening at once". The overwhelming flooding of memories set him in a state of shock. Later described as a 'memory overload'. Effects were reversed after the administration of Class-A amnesics.

Discovery: SCP-4437 was discovered in an abandoned beauty supply store in ██ █████, Vermont. A local resident found the bottle of perfume, and reported its effects to most living in the nearby town.
