Sleep Tight

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a storage locker lined with no less than three inches of lead, and must be located inside a room with an electromagnetic transmitter broadcasting white noise on the 2.4712 GHz frequency.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a navy blue blanket measuring 78 by 80 inches made of 65% cotton and 35% polyester. When SCP-XXXX is used as a blanket the subject, who will be called SCP-XXXX-1, will experience intense nightmares after sleeping for approximately 4 hours. At some point SCP-XXXX will awake in a state of sleep paralysis. When this happens, a shadowy figure, SCP-XXXX-2 will walk over to the blanket and pull it over the head of SCP-XXXX-1 and both will disappear. No attempts to recover SCP-XXXX-1 have succeeded. SCP-XXXX-2 Can only be observed through video recordings. All attempts to view him in person have lead to temporary vision loss and paralysis.

After SCP-XXXX-1 has disappeared any human sleeping withing 15 miles of SCP-XXXX will experience the same nightmare SCP-XXXX-1 had, even with no previous fear over what the nightmare is about. SCP-XXXX “transmits” the nightmare on the 2.4712 GHz electromagnetic frequency. This effect can be mitigated to 2 feet by surrounding SCP-XXXX with lead and broadcasting white noise on the 2.4712 GHz frequency. Each new nightmare overwrites the last. Amnestics are ineffective at removing the new phobias even though all memories from within 15 miles of SCP-XXXX were removed.

Addendum: History of SCP-XXXX: SCP-XXXX was retrieved by the foundation on 4/19/19██ following reports of residents of ███████, WV experiencing the same nightmare after the disappearance of a child. Residents reported having a nightmare over a character from the cartoon ██████████. All affected residents now have an irrational fear of that character from the cartoon.

Additional Notes: While SCP-XXXX “transmits” nightmares on the 2.4712 GHz frequency, attempts to replicate the mind-affecting qualities of SCP-XXXX have failed. It was discovered that white noise helps to mitigate this effect, as well as other forms of blocking electromagnetic radiation.

Testing: Testing was conducted in the ██████ desert, located 82 miles from the nearest town over multiple days. Local law enforcement was alerted to prevent access under the guise of nuclear weapons testing. Four D class subjects each recorded their greatest phobias. Testing would commence over 8 nights, with SCP-XXXX being used every other night. All staff present received the same nightmares and acquired the phobias the D-class personnel recorded. Amnestics were administered and removed all memories from the last 2 weeks but the phobias remained.
