Item #: SCP-3358
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Must be kept in a room with a ceiling above at least 4.3 metres in height. Under no circumstances should a high-level operative enter the area or the ramifications on The Foundation may be devastating. Must be kept away from other SCP's in a containment breach otherwise we might forget that the SCP exsists therefore jepordizing recapture attempts.
Description: SCP-3358 is currently an object that resembles a waste paper basket. It appears to be made of steel and has a tesselating diamond pattern. It is 30 cm in diameter and 50 centimetres deep although its effects reach outside of the confines of the physical object with the effect extending about 3.8 metres above SCP-3358
SCP-3358 was recovered from a home in Adelaide, Australia, from its apparent owner SCP-3358-1. SCP-3358-1 was interviewed (See Addendum 3358-A). Mrs Darnwall was also interviewed (See Addendum 3358-B). From these statements, it was clear it had to be moved with high care because of its apparent ability to switch timelines. It was scheduled to move from the house of Mr and Mrs Darnwall to Site-██ by truck but each seemed to have a hole in its roof. Until Dr-M██████ observed that SCP-3358 might actually be the one causing these holes. It was put in the back of a ute and transported to Site-██ when it was taken inside where the same characteristic holes were seen in the ceiling. It was then put in a highly fortified but open area.
A test was set up to fire tennis balls from a tennis ball launcher into its area of influence. When it was set to fire the ball it jammed and then SCP-3358-2 through to SCP-3358-11 appeared on the other side of SCP-3358. All of these objects resembled the tennis balls that were used for the experiment. Further testing suggested that they were the same type of tennis ball used for the experiment. The launcher was only set to fire one ball so it begged the question why 10 came out. Dr L████ then suggested a plausible theory. He proposed that every time that a ball was fired we forgot that it had fired, therefore we fired a new ball each time even though it was still physically there. Which is also what caused our launcher to be jammed.
A new test was then set up. A ball was fired every 20 seconds and it was observed every 20 seconds 10 new balls would appear on the other side of SCP-3358 until the launcher was adjusted to go over 4.3 metres above ground level in which the ball must have gone over the area of influence because it did not disappear when fired. When we put it in a new room with a ceiling over this height there were no holes in the ceiling.
We then decided to test it on biological matter. Aware of the results that happened in the tennis ball experiment a monkey was set to be put in a courtyard and let go to interact with the bin. When a D-class operative tried to walk forward to let the monkey do he found that there was an invisible object blocking the way. Meanwhile, the door opened and SCP-3358 fell over revealing a human male (addressed as SCP-3358-12) appeared holding a monkey (addressed as SCP-3358-13) on our side of the door. The door was promptly closed and 19 monkeys appeared out SCP-3358 (SCP-3358-14 through to SCP-3358-34 respectively). SCP-3358-12 was then interviewed by scientists (See Addendum 3358-C). We then concluded that SCP-3358-12 was a Class-D personnel from another timeline and like the previous case was still physically there even though he wasn't seen.
The final test was on humans due to these two prior test we said that if the personnel thought they bumped into something they would not have to be tested on because it was likely that something was already there. The tests consisted of multiple Class D personnel which were requested to have the limbs required for the experiment. We found that when asked this most of the requested people had this test in the future. We carried out these tests each time with the missing limb regrowing until SCP-3358-35 appeared. When asked it said that she was a Class D personnel asked to put their head into the area of effect. This test was set to be repeated but when a Class D moved in to fill a vacant position they were teleported to an area 5 metres away. Then when another person tried to fill this space it was physically occupied. 5 seconds later SCP-3358-36 appeared and claimed it was one of these repeated experiments. This then happened again with SCP-3358-37 appearing and claiming the same thing. The results showed that the object was considered not to exist until 5 seconds before it appeared. If anything occupied that space it would be teleported to a space 5 metres away that did not contain a solid object. The research also suggested that if the thought centre of the subject went into SCP-3358 area of effect other people would forget that the subject ever existed. This also applied if the entirety of an object either sentient or non-sentient went into the area of effect it would disappear from people's memory.
The objects history was tracked down by a receipt on the bottom of SCP-3358 it showed that it was waste paper basket sold by a local shop. When we examined security footage from the day it was sold it showed us that it used to be a dumpster sitting outside the shop. Before it was brought inside with the rest of the stock it transformed into the current form it is in now.
Addendum 3358-A
Interviewed: SCP-3358-1
Interviewer: Dr Q█████
Foreword: SCP-3358-1 was enclosed in a police cell after he had been terrorizing Mr and Mrs Darnwall claiming he was their son Joey. We were tipped off by local police when he started blaming a global amnesia of his existence on his waste paper basket. We asked him why he thought this in an interviewing room provided by the police.
<Begin Log>
Dr Q█████:** Hello Mr Darnwall.
SCP-3358-1: Hello Officer.
Dr Q█████: Could you please explain how you understand this waste paper basket to have caused the destruction of your life.
SCP-3358-1: Well you see officer I am an avid writer and I was coming up with concepts for my new book. I was mostly brainstorming and when I brainstorm I usually put most pieces of paper in the trash but as I went about brainstorming I realised there was something off. I could not remember putting any pieces of paper in the bin. So I got up and walked over to the bin and realised it was empty. I don't know what happened next but suddenly after taking my arm away from the bin I suddenly grew back my right hand. See I was born with a defect that stifled the development of my right hand or something, but suddenly after taking my hand back from the bin I grew my hand back I then looked into the bin and next thing I knew I was entirely naked in my own home with my mum and dad in my bed.
Dr Q█████: So you still believe Mr and Mrs Darnwall are your parents.
SCP-3358-1: What do you mean "Believe". They are.
SCP-3358-1: Anyway after that I woke up my mum to ask what they were doing in my bed and she screams at me and says "WHO ARE YOU". I just say "It's your son Joey" and she screams "Get out now or we'll call the cops". Of course, being entirely confused I tried to comfort my mum and explain my existence to her but she got so freaked out. Then my dad hit me unconscious. I came to when the police arrived and that's how I ended up here. Apparently, according to government records, I don't exist.
Dr Q█████: Why do you believe the bin caused this.
SCP-3358-1: Well two unreal things happened when I did something near the bin I just think it's likely that the bin caused it.
Interviewer: And what do you believe the bin does
SCP-3358-1: Teleport things from different timelines and teleport people too. That's the only reason I could come up with.
Dr Q█████: Thank you for your time Mr Darnwall.
SCP-3358-1: You're welcome officer.
<End log>
Closing Statement: SCP-3358-1 was not seen as a threat by police or The Foundation. He was given a new identity of Jake Darnhill at his own request. He was ordered to sever ties with Mr and Mrs Darnwall or face prison time. The Foundation has kept a close eye on him since.
Addendum 3358-B
Interviewed: Mrs Darnwall
Interviewer: Dr Q█████
Foreword: Mrs Darnwall was in shock by the events that had transpired that night. We asked her what she made of the events.
<Begin Log>
Dr Q█████: So Mrs Darnwall. Who do you believe this intruder to be?
Mrs Darnwall: I don't know officer I have no clue who this man could be he claimed to be our son Joey which freaked me out because we always considered having a kid and we agreed if it was a boy we would name him Joey. So this man must know something about us. We tried to have a child but when I went into labour nothing came out. Even if he knew the potential name of our son he didn't have a missing arm. A defect that generated in the womb.
Dr Q█████: So you can say beyond a shadow of a doubt there is no way you know this person
Mrs Darnwall: No. No way. And it seems like neither did anyone else.
Dr Q█████: And how do you think he got in. The police didn't report any signs of a break-in.
Mrs Darnwall: I have no clue. We always lock every door and window at night in case these sorts of things happen.
Dr Q█████: Well thank you for your time Mrs Darnwall.
Mrs Darnwall: Thanks for dealing with this officer.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Mrs Darnwall is happy with the result of the ruling the court provided in Addendum 3358-A she has not been contacted by SCP-3358-1 since
Addendum 3358-C
Interviewed: SCP-3358-12
Interviewer: Dr Q█████
Foreword: After SCP-3358-12 appeared it was quickly seized by the guards. During this time it was complaining about how it was another D-class operative. The guards quickly put it into confinement. until it could be interviewed.
<Begin Log>
Dr Q█████: So who do you believe you are.
SCP-3358-12: Giovanni Abercrombie, Class D personnel.
Dr Q█████: So how do we have no record of your existence.
SCP-3358-12: I don't know Dr Q I haven't been told much.
Dr Q█████: How do you know my codename.
SCP-3358-12: Well that's all Class D personnel are told about someone
Dr Q█████: So you know how Class D personnel protocols work
SCP-3358-12:** I'm telling you Dr Q that's because I am one.
Dr Q█████: Then tell me what happened leading up to the events of your imprisonment.
SCP-3358-12: Well you took me out of my cell before the experiment. You explained to me that I needed to hold the monkey until told to let go. I was fine until you opened the door then the bin fell over and you all gasped in horror like I was an SCP or something.
Dr Q█████: Well I think that's all the information we need from you Joe
SCP-3358-12: Well you're welcome Dr Q
<End Log>
Closing Statement: SCP-3358-12 was subsequently terminated as per Foundation protocol for Class D personnel.
