Item #: SCP-5212
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5212 is to be contained in an enclosed dock at Site-32 on the Canadian East Coast. All Site-32 personnel must be tested as resistant to psychic compulsion. No more than 5 people are allowed aboard SCP-5212 at any time. All missions dispatched aboard require direct authorization from the site director. In the event of an activation event, all non-affected personnel must immediately leave the dock area. All non-foundation ships are to be rerouted under the cover story of a large cyclone. SCPS Montgomery is ordered to shadow SCP-5212 at ten miles until the end of the activation event. Under no circumstances is SCP-5212 to be engaged. If contact is lost before the end of the activation event, the foundation submarine SCPS Caroline is to render assistance in reestablishing contact. In the case of event 5212-1, Foundation forces are ordered to shadow as normal until the end of the event. In the case of event 5215-2, MTF Tau-266 is to be deployed to the affected area and is authorized to begin Operation Cannonfire. The destruction of SCP-5212 marks the end of both activation events. Foundation air forces deployed from Site 32 will search the area until SCP-5212 is found and towed back to containment.
Description: SCP-5212 is the HMS Ranger, a Royal Navy sloop from the early 1700s. It is believed that the object is responsible for many disappearances in the surrounding area. The vessel was discovered in pristine condition, however further immediate testing was impossible due to a delay in effective Foundation involvement and an activation event immediately after.
SCP-5212 has many anomalous properties, all of which are centered around activation events 5212-A and 5212-B. First, the vessel seems to emit a form of minor psychic compulsion directed to anyone in the immediate area. Those affected will feel inclined to board the ship and convince others to do so as well. The Ranger's cannon are much more powerful than other artillery from the same period, though there appear to be no discernable alterations. The vessel seems to have a resilience beyond what should be possible. In addition, SCP-5212, while not immune to damage and destruction, will reappear within approximately 100 miles of the location of its destruction. How SCP-5212 does this is currently unknown. Any debris created by the vessel's destruction disappear shortly after.
A 5212 activation event occurs once ten or more people are aboard the vessel at the same time. These individuals become SCP-5212-A instances. 5212-A instances lose their original personalities, and take on the mannerisms of eighteenth century seamen. The only recorded personality is that of Stanly McCall, the ship's captain. The instances will prepare the ship for sailing, destroying any obstacles in their way with cannon fire. The instances will act hostile towards others, and will attack any ships closer than five miles.
Once SCP-5212 has left its dock, one of two activation events will occur:
During Event 5212-1, the vessel will sail towards ██°N by ██°W. It will attack any ships that close to closer than five miles, as well as any ships outside of five miles that attempt to interfere. Once it has reached the specified location, it will engage in ferocious combat with an unobservable entity. Researchers believe that there is, in fact, no other entity present. The engagement always concludes with a detonation aboard SCP-5212. To date, none of the vessel's crew have survived a 5212-Event. The vessel will reappear soon after.
During Event 5212-2, SCP-5212 will sail towards an island located at ██°N by ██°W. The vessel will attack any other ships following the same guidelines outlined as in Event 5212-2. Once SCP-5212 arrives at the island, all SCP-5212-A instances will go ashore and make camp. The following night, MTF Tau-266 is to be deployed to the island. Once MTF Tau-266 reaches the island, [DATA EXPUNGED].
