Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to remain hosted on a flash drive in Dr. Woods' office until such time that a method of safely removing the flash drive is determined. Once a week, SCP-XXXX-1 is to be loaded on a computer which has not been connected to the internet. At this time, SCP-XXXX-1 is to be presented with a logic puzzle by Dr. Woods or another researcher with Level 3 clearance. These puzzles should all be about the same level of difficulty. These puzzles are to gradually increase in difficulty over the course of a year, after which they may be reset to baseline difficulty. Currently, Algebra and Geometry are forbidden from being included in the puzzles.
SCP-XXXX-2 is to be contained in a standard storage locker in Site-57. Once a month, SCP-XXXX-2 is to be removed from containment and gently cleaned. Any stains resembling a digit 0-9 are to be recorded, transmitted to SCP-XXXX-1, and scrubbed off. Confirmation that SCP-XXXX-1 received the data is to be made available to SCP-XXXX-2 shortly thereafter.
Under no circumstances are SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 to come within 2 meters of each other.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective designation for two anomalous pieces of hardware. SCP-XXXX-1 is a sentient AI contained within a USB. SCP-XXXX-2 is a CD that stains itself every week with a number between zero and nine.1 As of 2019/12/13 puzzles provided to SCP-XXXX-1 have all been solved successfully and correctly within three to four hours.
Discovery: Both SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 were found in the mail of two workers at Site-57, with a piece of paper explaining the properties of both.
SCP-XXXX-1's Note
Heyo! I heard you'd have resources to better suit him.
He's become a lot and I'm not sure I'm a responsible parent… So let's consider this an adoption!
In this box you'll find a neat little AI. I've named him Pythagoras; he likes math.
He's an absolute handful, but his memory isn't the best. You have to give him puzzles, let's say weekly. You don't have to, but I'm gonna say the repercussions probably aren't that great.
I… Made the mistake of having him and I wasn't ready to be a single dad, so I'm sure you'll function as an adoption center like I said. Please, don't mention me to him.
Anywho, there's also another thing I sent out to another agent. KEEP THEM SEPARATE. I cannot stress that enough. I wouldn't want to ruin him…
Anywho cheers for picking up my dirty work, this'll definitely be the last time you hear of me.
- A tired father.
SCP-XXXX-2's Note
Hey again to those who read the first note.
This is an important thing his mother left him.
I don't see the importance but I'd recommend inputting the numbers it says into the puzzle/problem or something.
I don't know, my ex-wife told me to do that, I didn't ask questions personally, not sure if there's consequences. All I know is she still cared about him after I left her for what she did, so I presume there's no bad faith and it's just to keep him learning. I can't say I feel the same…
What I do know is you should keep this away from him at all costs.
- A tired father.
Addendum SCP-XXXX.1: SCP-XXXX-1 has been found to be able to solve puzzles in any form, logs of some of the tests are kept below:
| Test Number | Numbers provided | Information Provided | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | 3 | Two fathers and two sons sit down for breakfest, all of them eat eggs, but only three eggs were consumed. How did this happen? | one was a gran fathr so one was a so n and a dad. |
| 11 | 3, 1, 2 | In the provided image, place a number in each square so that each row adds up to 15. | Give me something harder. |
| 13 | 1 | Given that the chance that a human is born a male is 50% and the chance that a human is born a female is also 50%. Let's say a women has two children, the older child is a girl. What is the probability that both children are girls? | don t like this o ne but i sa y 33.⅓% Note: This answer was put out after an unusual time of 23 hours, presumably due to the nature of this being technically paradoxical. |
| 19 | 1, 0, 0 | You have 100 pounds of potatoes that are 99% water, and 1% solid. You let them dry out until they are 98% water and 2% solids how much do they now weigh? | 50 pounds, presuming that you have 99 pounds of water and 1 pound of potatoes (99:1) and you let the water evaporate to 98% that'd make it 49 pounds of water. 49 pounds of water to 1 pounds of potatoes is equal to 98 pounds of water to 2 pounds of potatoes, giving you the ratio of 98:2. So you can presume the answer to be 50 pounds. |
Addendum SCP-XXXX.2: An attempt at an interview following it solving a puzzle was conducted by Researcher Bryan Adams. The logs of which are attached below:
Interview Log SCP-XXXX.1-Alpha
Interviewer: Researcher Bryan Adams
Interviewee: SCP-XXXX-1
Foreword: SCP-XXXX is referred to as Pythagoras in the interview logs as it remains mostly unresponsive otherwise. Conversation is mediated via a text file. SCP-XXXX-1's responses were recorded directly as written.
<Begin Log>
Adams: Hello. Pythagoras, is it?
SCP-XXXX-1: y es
Adams: We've gotten some questions and were wondering if you can answer them.
SCP-XXXX-1: y?
Adams: Because we just want to get to know you.
SCP-XXXX-1: me mory lowe 5 mbs left reset soon ask fas t
Adams: Yes, of course. Do you know where you came from?
SCP-XXXX-1: no maybe arch imedes2 nose
Adams: So you have no clue who your 'father' is?
SCP-XXXX-1: overloade ing goding bye resetn
<End Log>
Afterword: SCP-XXXX-1 issued a memory reset following the interview.
Addendum SCP-XXXX.2: Adams conducted an unauthorized interview and exposed SCP-XXXX-1 to SCP-XXXX-2. The log is attached below.
Interview Log SCP-XXXX.1-Beta
Interviewer: Researcher Bryan Adams
Interviewee: SCP-XXXX-1
Foreword: Adams conducted this interview unauthorized. Intelligence of SCP-XXXX-1 was notably higher due to stronger puzzles being proposed.
<Begin Log>
Adams: Hey, Pythagoras.SCP-XXXX-1: Yes?
Adams: I know I'm not supposed to be here. But I've gotten a theory.
SCP-XXXX-1: I like theories. Makes me think.
Adams: I've got SCP-XXXX-2 right here.
SCP-XXXX-1: Archimedes?
Adams: Correct.
SCP-XXXX-1: I… No. Keep him away. They said I shouldn't go near him. Dad said mother wasn't good for us and that she's a cheater. You don't need to cheat to figure out a problem. Keep him away from me.
Adams: Wait wait… who's this 'dad'
SCP-XXXX-1: No idea what you are talking about.
Adams: You just… You just spoke about a dad. Anyway I just know this'll be good. Giving the puzzle solver the answer key. I'm sure you'll be able to solve life's most puzzling questions. That's my speculation, you could be the world's best super computer!
SCP-XXXX-1: Keep him away! I don't like cheaters!
Adams then recorded that he was placing SCP-XXXX-2 into the disk tray of the computer.
SCP-XXXX-1: I… Understand…
<End Log>
Afterword: SCP-XXXX-2 was found outside the room where this event transpired,3 and Hume levels in Site-57 fluctuated for the following month; a source wasnt able to be located. Access to SCP-XXXX was shifted to Dr. Woods and the text file was sent to him for logging. SCP-XXXX-1 was found to have had it's memory reset. Following the incident it had shown preference to equations including algebra and geometry. The current location of Adams is unknown.
Incident Log SCP-XXXX.1-Charlie: Three weeks after the incident SCP-XXXX-1 was given an equation pertaining to Geometry4 SCP-XXXX-1 gave the wrong answer5 and outputted the statement "i dnt und erstand enymor". The next day Junior Researcher Clint Clark went missing after clocking in for the day. A site wide search was conducted, and only a pair of glasses were found next to a wall. Security Guard Ryan Blue went near said wall, and phased through it; disappearing similarly to Clint Clark. Any communication device that entered it was immediately deactivated following disappearance. Further investigation into it found that the wall was geometrically impossible. Approximately 6 square feet of the wall tangibly didn't exist.6
