Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in a level 1 containment cell at Site-81, containing SCP-XXXX and a folding chair, with one wall of the cell containing a window of one-way, lead-lined mirrored glass no less than 2.3cm in thickness. Any D-Class personnel interacting with SCP-XXXX must conduct literacy and cognitive function assessment, as well as a physical fitness assessment prior to interaction with SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a casino-style roulette table, complete with a set of gambling chips. The numbers found on a normal roulette table have been replaced with the roman numeral versions, with the green space being blank. A roulette ball sits in the blank green space, regardless of where the ball landed when last in play. The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX activate when a human subject plays a game on the object. Upon placing any amount of gambling chips onto any of the designated spaces, the roulette wheel on SCP-XXXX will begin to rotate clockwise on its own. After approximately 2.35 seconds after the wheel begins to spin, the roulette ball will materialize on the ring of the wheel, rolling counter-clockwise against the wheel’s rotation. After a time between 17.8 seconds and 24.9 seconds, the wheel suddenly stops, while the ball’s momentum lowers and it settles in a space. The player is then granted an effect based on where the ball stopped. A high probability of a good effect occurs when the ball lands on a red or green space, and a negative effect occurs when the ball lands on black space. If the player places chips on the color or number slot that the ball landed, the positive effect will be increased, and the negative effect will be mitigated. The effect also intensifies based on the roman numerals of each space, with larger numbers consequently having a more powerful effect. If when a subject plays, 2.5 seconds after the ball settles in the blank green space, the subject will vanish from view. Attempts to find the subject have returned inconclusive. For more information, see Test Log XXXX-D.
SCP-XXXX was identified by the foundation when a series of strange occurrences were discovered at a casino in [], Idaho. An MTF unit was sent to retrieve the anomalous object and return it to Site-81. Personnel with Level 2 Clearance and approval from the on-site supervisor can perform tests with SCP-XXXX and D-Class personnel.
Addendum:
Test Log XXXX-A, Date: 07/14/2016
Subject: D-Class 63819
Researcher: ████████
Foreword:
Test with D-Class personnel using SCP-XXXX. D-Class 63819 has completed the required literary, cognitive function, and physical fitness assessments.
<Begin Log>
D-Class 63819 enters SCP-XXXX's containment and sits in the provided folding chair. The subject is instructed to pick up a chip and place it in any of the spaces. Shouts an obscenity as SCP-XXXX begins to spin on its own.
After the ball settles, the subject appears fine. Attempts to communicate with D-Class 63819 after the ball stopped appear ineffective. Subject appears to be staring straight ahead, blind to its surroundings. Sending D-Class 63819 to the on-site medical sector reveals essential brain death of the subject, while still being living, all cognitive function has ceased almost completely.
Researcher ████████ after entering SCP-XXXX’s containment noted that the ball landed on the black XXXV space.
<End Log>
Closing Statement:
Researcher ████████ requests additional D-Class personnel to continue testing.
Test Log XXXX-B Date:07/25/2016
Subject: D-Class 71982
Researcher: ████████
Foreword: Test with D-Class personnel to see how SCP-XXXX reacts to the removal of the ball
<Begin Log>
D-Class 71982 enters SCP-XXXX’s containment and is instructed to sit in the provided folding chair. They are then instructed to reach over and pick up the roulette ball from the wheel, where it has gone back to its place in the green blank space.
When D-Class 71982 wraps their hand around the ball, they attempt to move the ball with no effect. After 10 minutes of trying to remove the ball from SCP-XXXX, Subject is instructed to place a chip anywhere on the board, choosing red XIV. While the ball is going around the wheel, Subject is instructed to attempt to stop the ball in its rotation. This resulted in the Subject’s finger that was directly in the ball’s path being severed from the hand at the first knuckle. The ball continues its rotation, stopping in the red XXV space. Subject’s severed finger re-appears connected to its hand. No further testing authorized at this time.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: D-Class 71982 was given class C amnestic and returned to their cell.
Test Log XXXX-D Date: 10/21/2016
Subject: D-Class 81685
Researcher: Milton
Foreword: Test with D-Class personnel involving prolonged exposure to SCP-XXXX
<Begin Log>
D-Class 81685 enters SCP-XXXX’s Containment and is instructed to sit in the provided folding chair. They are then instructed to play a few games of roulette on SCP-XXXX, placing chips wherever the subject seems fit. As they play, the subject is instructed to read out loud the number which the ball lands.
After landing on the II space, the subject mentions a slight headache. They are instructed to continue playing.
Landing on XIX, subject reports the headache being absent, and feeling “Better then I have in a long time.”
After 3 more rounds with the subject landing on I, VIII, and XXVII respectively, the ball lands on the blank green space. Immediately after the ball ceases movement, the subject reports a glowing figure in the room directly across the table from him. (Note: Video Surveillance of the containment cell shows no sign of another figure in the room at this time.) Subject reports that the entity, now referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, is reaching for him, before D-Class 81685 is lifted out of his chair by a force assumed to be SCP-XXXX-1. D-Class 81685 suddenly vanishes from sight 54 seconds after SCP-XXXX-1 was sighted.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Attempts to locate D-Class 81685 have been inconclusive. Sensors indicate a high amount of ultraviolet radiation in SCP-XXXX’s containment during and immediately after the interaction with SCP-XXXX-1.
Test Log XXXX-F 12/03/2016
Subject: D-Class 68468
Researcher: Milton
Foreword: Test using D-Class personnel the ability to become increasingly intelligent with the use of SCP-XXXX. The subject took literacy and cognitive function assessment prior to interaction with SCP-XXXX.
<Begin Log>
D-Class 68468 enters SCP-XXXX's containment and sits in the provided folding chair. The subject is instructed to place a chip on any red space. After subject places chips on red XVI, XXV, XXXII, and V, the wheel begins its rotation. After the ball stops, the subject is instructed to read what number it landed on. D-Class 68468 responds with "XXV". The subject is asked if they feel any changes, to which they reply in the negative.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: D-Class 68468 later took another literacy and cognitive function assessment, scoring considerably higher than their previous score.(Note: D-Class 68468 has described seeing a building matching the description of SCP-4767.) Request sent in to see how animals/SCP's react with SCP-XXXX.
