Item #: SCP-4457

Object Class: Safe Keter Neutralized Keter

Special Containment Procedures:SCP-4457 is to be contained in a standard aquatic containment enclosure with a measurement of 4.32 million gallons of sea water. The containment must maintain a temperature of 10 °C at all times to maintain the good health of SCP-4457. SCP-4457 must be fed in accordance with Site-58-B’s feeding protocols and no deviance must be had under any circumstances besides containment breach.

SCP-4457 is currently not contained in a way that is safe to sentient life. SCP-4457 is currently located in Former Site-58-B in its former containment structure with no source of sustenance and failing facilities. No sentient life must be allowed within 100 meters 450 meters 3500 meters 48.6 kilometers of Former Site-58-B. Subject is to be neutralized once foundation staff successfully create an autonomous drone capable of of breaching Former Site-58-B’s security measures.

SCP-4457 is neutralized.

SCP-4457-B is currently located in the Former Site-58-B, as of the moment a perimeter of █████ is to be maintained at all times. Any sapient creature that enters the area of affect is to be neutralized.

Description:SCP-4457 is a member of species Orcinus orca, colloquially named the “Killer Whale” or “Orca”. SCP-4457 is outwardly considered a healthy, if not particularly well fed in relation to other members of its species. SCP-4457 as of time of containment is estimated to be between 17 and 24 years old. Besides one scar along the left side of SCP-4457’s dorsal fin the entire body of SCP-4457 is free of damage or deformities, a feature uncommon among members of the species at this age.

In situations where SCP-4457 is properly fed, no anomalous properties are displayed. Under the affects of even minor hunger the subject begins to exhibit its anomalous properties. While SCP-4457 is under the effect of hunger it begins to emit a memetic effect with a range of 100 meters. The effect compels all sentient life to want to converge on the location of SCP-4457. For the duration of SCP-4457 hunger this effect gains intensity, in if weakest form the compulsion is little more than “a nagging feeling” as described by researchers and surrounding staff. In the later stages of hunger (considered within 5-15 minutes after a delayed feeding) the compulsion subconsciously forces sentient life to enter SCP-4457’s containment area, where SCP-4457 will then eat them.

SCP-4457-B is theorized to be the the decomposing mass of SCP-4457, the current understanding is that the bacterial contents of SCP-4457 upon decomposing its body inherited its memetic properties of SCP-4457. As such the “Hunger” of the bacteria seems to be constant and the area of effect is stable.

Incident Log 4457-1: At 0157 hours on January 31st, 1991, SCP-███ broke containment and and damaged the automated feeding system for SCP-4457, during the mass evacuation Site-58-B this was not noticed and was unreported, upon return of essential staff to Site-58-B the memetic effects of SCP-4457 activated, the area of the effect was much larger than projected and lead to ███ personnel dying and directly resulted in the deaths of SCP-███, SCP-████, and SCP-████. This again resulted in further stages of hunger in SCP-4457.

Emergency precautions were taken and a perimeter was established around the site. The incident was reported to the 05-Council.

Incident Log 4457-2: At 1295 hours on February 22nd, 1991, security personnel witnessed a pack of wild dingo entered the projected area of SCP-4457’s memetic effect and then exited. After being neutralized the incident was brought to the attention of staff. A D-class subject was instructed to enter the projected and was witnessed to stand idle for 5 minutes and then instructed to return. To which they did with no difficulty.

MTF Upsilon-3 (“Salt Water Crocodiles”) were sent in to investigate. Upon reaching the containment enclosure where SCP-4457 was housed they discovered the decomposing remains of SCP-4457. Upsilon-3 secured the area and radioed to confirm that the subject was neutralized.

Incident Log 4457-3: At 1395 hours on February 22nd, 1991, staff that had come to investigate SCP-4457 described feeling of anxiety toward when near enclosure SCP-4457 was housed in. Approximately 7 minutes several members of staff and security were witnessed trying to open the enclosure. Upsilon detained the staff and removed them from the site and called for immediate evacuation of the site. At this time camera’s surrounding the site elusion zone recorded several members of above ground security detail moving toward the entrance of Former Site-58-B. Fortunately Upsilon-3 intercepted security and escorted them out of the area.

After this event a new perimeter was set up around the location and all further interference with the site was prohibited.
