First off yes you are right that is a bad idea, having a research team follow it is a much better idea.
Secondly the bear doesn’t deal with that, it’s not supposed to be there. I wanted to make sure it was obvious that the bear was not from here because if it had been living there for any long period of time it would have died.
And this is where I probably should have gone into more detail. The hair is tiny rolled up leaves when the bear wishes to “eat” they unfurl revealing the green inner leaf. Unlike real polar bears the “hair” or back of the leaf is actually white not transparent which conceals the green interior. The bear absorbs water through its skin but due to it not producing heat it can’t melt the snow in order to absorb the water because of this it was found severely dehydrated. Every few months the bear will grow roots from its feet, tethering it to the ground for about a week in which it remains stationary and unresponsive but the leaves still open for several hours each day. After this period is up the roots will wither and the bear will break away from them and go back to its usual business. It does this as another way of getting nutrients This is another reason it should not be in Antarctica.
As for why It’s in Antarctica in the first place. Some guy created it by splicing DNA from some sort of plant and a polar bear, then wanted to get rid of it but didn’t want to kill it so he just dumped it in Antarctica. I’m still working out this part so it’s not my final idea.
