Spread of information regarding SCP-5XXX has become uncontrollable due to the viral trend referred to online as "babies trapped in knees". The origin of this trend is unknown, but is not believed to be memetic. The trend is to be maintained by foundation operatives online for the purpose of locating and tracking new SCP-5XXX-P instances.

Description: SCP-5XXX is a genetic condition that affects roughly 0.00012% of the human population, designated SCP-5XXX-P. Symptoms of SCP-5XXX do not present until the gene is activated. Activation typically occurs between age 20 and 40, with the earliest recorded instance being 17. The trigger for activation is not yet known.

Once activated SCP-5XXX consists of two stages, designated stage 5XXX-alpha and stage 5XXX-omega. 5XXX-alpha typically lasts between 50 and 75 years before 5XXX-omega occurs. Due to the limitations of the human lifespan only 9 subjects have ever reached the omega stage, however, this figure is increasing exponentially due to advancements in technology and medicine.

5XXX-alpha consists of the gradual deformation of the patella (kneecap) into a structure resembling that of the face of a human infant. SCP-5XXX gradually becomes more prominent throughout the alpha stage.

Testing of SCP-5XXX-P subjects revealed the structure to be non-anomalous, consisting of normal human collagen. Stage 5XXX-alpha is completely harmless to 5XXX-P instances.

+ Stage 5XXX-omega

5XXX-omega consists of the emergence of a separate being designated SCP-5XXX-C. 5XXX-omega typically results in the death of the 5XXX-P subject, although in 2 known cases 5XXX-P remained alive for the duration. SCP-5XXX-C emerges via the patella of SCP-5XXX-P, rendering SCP-5XXX-P immobile via the maiming of their legs. After emergence, SCP-5XXX-C will begin to cannibalise SCP-5XXX-P.

SCP-5XXX-C instances are on average 37.5" (95.2 cm) in height and 31.0lb (14.0kg) in weight, consistent with the expected values for a normal 2-year-old human infant. They display skin tone, eye colour and other features identical to those of SCP-5XXX-P. SCP-5XXX-C are capable of coherent vocalisations with accents similar to those of SCP-5XXX-P, leading to researchers arranging to interview SCP-5XXX-C instances.
