Special Containment Procedures: Covert Foundation are to be stationed within the boundaries of SCP-4XXX, using cover stories Any civilians who enter SCP-4XXX, and are attacked by SCP-4XXX-2 while in SCP-4XXX, but survive, are to be apprehended by MTF Lambda-9 units and administered medical attention as appropriate, followed by Class-A amnestics. Foundation personnel experiencing symptoms consistent with being stalked by SCP-4XXX-2 are to be monitored until perceived effects cease, or an attack by SCP-4XXX-2 occurs. Cadavers created as a result of SCP-4XXX-2 attacks are to be incinerated.

Description: SCP-4XXX is the designation given to a spatial anomaly that encompasses the entirety of the state of Illinois, USA. This anomalous area is indistinguishable from the non-anomalous state, except for the existence of SCP-4XXX-2. Following testing, no forms of technology seem to be hindered by operating within SCP-4XXX, unless altered by the secondary effects of SCP-4XXX-2.

It is currently speculated that at least 1 fifth of the population of Illinois currently lives in SCP-4XXX, and are apparently tied to the spatial anomaly, due to the fact that they exhibit a 100% transfer rate when brought within the boundaries of SCP-4XXX. This effect is hereditary, having been passed down to offspring of affected individuals. About 90% of these residents have been designated collectively as SCP-4XXX-1, and are currently believed to be immune to the effects and outright manifestation of SCP-4XXX-2, for unknown reasons. The remaining 10% of residents have been known to encounter SCP-4XXX-2 and witness its effects, but at significantly reduced rates than those who are randomly transferred to SCP-4XXX.

The chance of people accidentally entering SCP-4XXX is currently believed to be at least 40%, though it is nearly impossible to gauge an exact number. It is not known what process is used to determine who enters SCP-4XXX when crossing any point of the Illinois state border, and is believed to be random.

SCP-4XXX-2 is the designation given to a humanoid entity that only manifests around people who enter SCP-4XXX, but aren’t an instance of SCP-4XXX-1. Several conditions need to be met for SCP-4XXX-2 to manifest and begin tracking a victim, those conditions being:

  • Target must be within 500 m of a cornfield
  • Target must be travelling on foot
  • The sun must be down

SCP-4XXX-2 is extremely hostile, and exhibits predatory behavior, acting more like an animal hunting for food, rather than a sapient being. SCP-4XXX-2 chooses targets seemingly at random, and becomes fixated on locating, and killing the target they choose. When close to a target, SCP-4XXX-2 exhibits a cognitohazardous effect on the target, subjecting them to a number of different effects in an attempt to disorient them. These include;

  • Auditory hallucinations, typically distant yelling, and bells ringing.
  • Visual hallucinations, typically objects appearing where they shouldn't be.
  • Vocal distortion
  • Extreme paranoia

Once SCP-4XXX-2 decides to strike, they will assault the target viciously, exhibiting a secondary effect of interfering with most forms of recording devices. (microphones, camcorders, etc) Cadavers created by these attacks exhibit 2 anomalous effects. First of all, common corn plants begin to grow out of any exposed wounds on the body. The method of how these plants grow are unknown, although the plants produced are non-anomalous. After this process is complete, the cadaver acts as a point for SCP-4XXX-2 to manifest from at greater frequency than normal.

SCP-4XXX was discovered after several unexplained murders were reported across the state of Illinois, and after [DATA EXPUNGED], the Foundation became aware of the presence of SCP-4XXX, and by extension SCP-4XXX-2.
