SCP-XXXX-8 through SCP-XXXX-12 before containment.

SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: - Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX requires a number of instruments to ensure its safe containment. A Geiger counter should be in the cell and monitored as the rocks are capable of communicating in this way. Researchers and other staff are urged to use HAZMAT suits when entering the cell of SCP-XXXX so as to protect themselves from the high radiation of the cell. A translator has been engineered to translate any communications between the rocks using data from the Geiger counter. The walls should be reasonably thick and made of a solid material with few gaps or holes such as steel. This is to prevent radiation from easily escaping the cell.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a large collection of radioactive rocks and ores ranging in size from tiny pebbles to rocks approximately ten (10) centimeters in length. Each individual rock has been given a designation such as SCP-XXX-1, the largest of the rocks. SCP-XXXX is capable of illuminating its cell due to its high energy and emission of various wavelengths such as visible light or gamma rays, the former of the two being responsible for the rock's luminosity. The most notable trait of SCP-XXXX is its ability to communicate through spikes in its radiation of gamma rays. Each instance of SCP-XXXX emits spikes at slightly different frequencies, making it possible to differentiate between the rocks. This communication is in Morse code, with a long period1 equating to a longer spike in gamma emissions and shorter periods2 being expressed by a spike in gamma emission that is far shorter than that of a long period. SCP-XXXX appears to also have the capability to freely move, even temporarily displacing itself into the air, which has been shown to have the potential to result in injury or death if one is in the path of these movements.

Discovery:

SCP-XXXX was found underground in an abandoned, and collapsed mine approximately ██ kilometers northeast of Casper, Wyoming. The mine collapsed in the late 1800's, resulting in the deaths of 57 miners. SCP-XXXX-1 claims that a few of the "souls" of the dead miners were transferred into 13 rocks, which were then discovered over a century later by a young mineral enthusiast, Herald D. Fortuminer. The rocks would be sold multiple times until they were under the possession of Foundation researcher, Dr. ███████. He would discover the patterns of electromagnetic radiation emitted by these rocks, suspecting their sentience. This discovery would eventually resulting in their containment. Dr. ██████ had his memories of SCP-XXXX wiped in order to avoid complications.

Experiment Log

EXPERIMENT XXXX-A
Date : 11/██/2016
Purpose : Examine the behavior of SCP-XXXX-1 when a subject is introduced.
An audio crew begins the recording experiment, the transcript begins.
Dr. █████ : Yes, yes its- has the audio began? Apologies. Let us begin.
D-Class prisoner D-████ is tossed into the cell without a HAZMAT suit.
Dr. █████ : Okay, D-████. I need you to tell me exactly what is happening to you.
D-████ : Y'all and your Foundation are crazy.
Dr. █████ : We have no time to argue. Just tell me what is happening or consequences will be brought to you.
D-████ : Fine.
Dr. █████ : Thank you. Now, tell me wh-
Geiger Operator : Sir, we have spiking activity..
Dr. █████ : Start the translator.
The translator is switched on.
SCP-XXXX-1 : Hello, everybody, I see you have an elaborate experiment for me.
Dr. █████ : Yes, we do. Please, act normal.
SCP-XXXX-1 : Okay.
D-████ : What did that thing just say?
Dr. █████ : You don't need to know.
D-████ : Wait.. What the fuck is happening-
The audio begins to lose clarity, however a loud scream can be heard.
Dr. █████ : Quick shut it down!
End of Transcript.

Interview Log

INTERVIEW XXXX-A
Date: 11/██/2016
Purpose: Clarify the events of experiment XXXX-A, and obtain information about SCP-XXXX-1.
The tape recorder begins.
Dr. ███ : Good Morning, SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX-1 : Hello.
Dr. ███ : I am here in response to experiment XXXX-A. Do you have anything to say?
SCP-XXXX-1 : Ah, that day. That was only █████ days ago, wasn't it?
Dr. ███ : Yes. Dr. █████ has refused to state anything on the experiment. Do you have any possible ideas on why this is?
SCP-XXXX-1 : The tapes from Monday have everything. The experiment did not go the way he wanted it to.
Dr. ███ : Yes, but there was no footage of the experiment, what exactly happened?
Silence.
Dr. ███ : … I do wish for you to comply. It is n-
SCP-XXXX-1 : Look. The prisoner was not my type. I didn't need him in my cell.
Dr. ███ : What do you mean exactly..?
SCP-XXXX-1 : I didn't want to be experimented on. I tried to act normal, but I ultimately just hate being experimented on. I wanted to just end it.
Silence
Dr. ███ : Well, I see that you seem to have intelligence. Do you mind if we discuss how you can do this?
SCP-XXXX-1 : Fine.
There would be a short pause.
SCP-XXXX-1 : I was not always this way. I used to be something alive. I would run around near the mines. It's been too long to remember what I did or why I did it. One day though, I remember the whole mine collapsing on me. By some means I found myself in these rocks. Maybe there is another anomaly out there that is causing this. I just don't know.
Dr. ███ : Very interesting.
SCP-XXXX-1 : I'd like to end this interview, it is just strange to have to remember so far back…
Dr. ███ : I see. Is there any more information you have to share?
There would be a long moment of silence.
SCP-XXXX-1 : No, not as far as I know.
Dr. ███ : Okay.
The Audio Ends.

Interactions Log

INTERACTION XXXX-1I
Date: 9/██/16
SCP-XXXX-1 : Why are we here..
SCP-XXXX-5 : Well, we were taken here due to our conditions.
SCP-XXXX-1 : I know but, why can't we be left alone, we are basically rocks.
SCP-XXXX-5 : I am not sure, maybe it wont be too bad..?
SCP-XXXX-1 : Well, I cant say anything until I experience it, I guess..

INTERACTION XXXX-2I
Date: 9/██/16
SCP-XXXX-1 : It's been a few weeks since we got here. I don't see things getting better.
SCP-XXXX-3 : It is not like what it was in the open world, but we are safer here ultimately.
