Description: SCP-XXXX is a memetic hazard manifesting itself as a memory in the minds of seemingly random individuals. The memory is of a child, seemingly between the ages of six and eight, who is reported as being a childhood friend that individuals affected by SCP-XXXX have lost contact with. The recalled appearance and name of the SCP differs with each individual. The memory often times takes place in the affected individuals residence, but affected individuals sometimes recall the memory taking place in a school. There are no records of any instance of SCP-XXXX every appearing as a physical being nor is there any evidence of any of the decriptions of the "childhood friends" having ever existed.

Contact with the SCP has been denied by the Ethics Committee.

By order of Site Director ███████ █████████████, of site-██, personnel, assigned with interviewing SCP-XXXX and individuals affected by SCP-XXXX, must go under psychological examination, conducted by qualified staff, as to confirm that assigned personnel have not been affected by SCP-XXXX. Only under the circumstance that assigned personnel are approved may they conduct interviews with SCP-XXXX and individuals affected by the SCP.

To begin communication with SCP-XXXX, a child, under the age of six years, must be surgically blinded. The subject must then be taught braille (in order to read the papers discussed later). The subject will routinely be told, via intercom, "We are bringing in your friend now". No "friend" is to be supplied. After approximately two monthes of this, the subject must be taken into an isolation chamber, told that their afformentioned “fsriend” is there and then given a list of questions (written in braille) to be read aloud. The subject must wait one (1) minute between reading each question.

Note: The following procedure could take up to twenty five (25) years to complete

After the afformentioned procedures have taken place, subject must interviewed every twelve (12) monthes, with the following questions:

-What do you remember about your childhood?
-Can you remember your friend(s) from the facility?

If subject has been recorded showing signs of SCP-XXXX then the subject must be given class-X mnestics. Subject must then be asked to write down their recollection of the afformentioned “interview” that they, the subject, had conducted by reading questions off of a sheet of questions written in braille.

Discovery: The SCP was discovered when junior researcher █████ █████████ attempted to reconnect with a friend of theirs that they met at age six and lost contact with at age eight. After an undisclosed number of monthes of attempting to reconnect with their "friend", the researcher requested help from a work colleague of her’s. They searched multiple databases and internet servers, to no avail. They spoke about this to some other researchers, three of them stating that they had a similar experience, being unable to find any records of their “friends”. The site director was notified and an investigation was initiated. The investigation yielded the results that none of these “childhood” friends existed, afterwards the anomaly was documented and studied.
