Item #: SCP 2555-32
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP 2555-32 is to be contained in a room with 8-inch thick steel walls on all sides, layered with state-of-the-art soundproofing material. The walls and soundproofing are to be replaced every year in case of a breach. Please report to Dr. R████ to gain authorized entry. The room is to be lit at all times. In case of a power outage, please keep a standby generator handy. Authorized personnel must remain 10 ft. away from SCP 2555-32 at all times to prevent further incidents.
Description: SCP 2555-32 is a 19th-century snare drum. The finish of the drum is made of a silky material known as ██████. SCP 2555-32 must never be played by anyone, for if someone plays or hears it, they will endure a harsh cycle of unexplained illness as follows:
First week
The patient will present with restlessness, develop a high fever, vomiting, and insomnia. Those that manage to sleep will develop deep cuts inside the mouth by the time that they awaken.
Second week (Final week)
Following the first week of exposure, the patient will recover from their insomnia episodes and appear to be in good health. However, by Sunday night, they will experience sleep paralysis and report viewing a strange shadow on their walls. The patient’s perception of time will warp, until the date will appear to be 00/00/0000. As the patient awakes, they will hallucinate the original owner of the drum’s alleged murder scene. Finally, the shadow will turn to them, look them in the eye, and proceed to █████████. The patient will be found dead with no signs of injury aside from the aforementioned cuts.
Addendum 2555-01: SCP 2555-32 has been successfully contained in Area-02 following a failed relocation. Dr. S████ was attempting to relocate SCP 2555-32, but failure to follow the correct relocating procedures resulted in the personnel displaying signs of insanity within hours. As a result, the personnel developed an uncontrollable urge to play the drum. Dr. S████ was held in Class D until her death. This incident has hinted that SCP 2555-32 may cause mass hysteria/psychogenic illness, though greater evidence does not exist and no testing is planned.
