Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to remain in a safe that can fit the object inside. The safe containing SCP-4XXX is to remain locked unless granted permission by a level 3 researcher or site staff and be supervised by them. SCP-4XXX must be returned to staff or its containment safe after use, failure to do so will result in punishment.
Description:
SCP-4XXX is a standard virtual reality headset composed of plastic, and marked with a brand name immersion inc. No company has ever existed .upon examination, no electronics are present within the headset but still appears to be powered on and functioning including an audio device. SCP-4XXX can not be turned off nor destroyed; all attempts have proven fruitless.
SCP-4XXX was donated to site-15 by the california government of it being reported and sent in by a civilian after they had issues stopping playing after purchasing it from a yard sale.
When SCP-4XXX is put on completely over a subjects eyes, the subject appears to go into a tranced or comatose state. Subjects who have put on SCP-4XXX have remained in this state for an unpredictable amount of time; one case had a class D remained in that state for 4 days straight and had to be given iv fluids and a feeding tube (see Addendum 4XXX-05 for more details).
While in the comatose state, subjects experience game-like scenarios. Debriefing of subjects after waking up shows each game is unique to the subject; how the headset determines the type of game to create and how they’re made is unknown.
SCP-4XXX was free to use under supervision until Incident-4XXX-01 which lead to the death of Dr.####. Afterwards, SCP-4XXX was placed in a safe and must be approved by level 3 staff and a waiver must be signed to acknowledge the risks if being used for personal reasons. SCP-4XXX is safe as long as it isn’t put on by a subject.
Addendum 4XXX-01:
A general test meaning to get a basic understanding of the nature of SCP-4XXX. 1 D-class was put in a room with SCP-4XXX and instructed to put on the headset. The D-class ( D-4752 ) did as he was instructed and put on the headset and fell into a comatose state upon complete covering of the eyes and ears. No noticeable abnormal behavior was recorded, little to no movement was recorded. The subject woke up approximately 1 hour after he initially put on SCP-4XXX and was retrieved for debrief. Subject stated he was put into an adventure game, and that it was very immersive. He described his adventure as a cliche “save the princess” medieval adventure and boasted of his outstanding strength. D-4752 said he felt like he it had been 3 days, despite only being under SCP-4XXX’s effect for 1 hour. SCP-4XXX was noted as slowing down time for the subject. In this case 1 hour was 3 days in D-4752’s game.
Addendum 4XXX-02
D-3999 was placed into a room with SCP-4XXX and was instructed to put on the headset, she complied and fell into a comatose state upon full covering of eyes and ears. While under the effects of SCP-4XXX, D-3999 had increased levels of estrogen and looked as if she was experiencing pleasure. D-3999 was only under the effects of SCP-4XXX for only 10 minutes. She was retrieved for debrief. Subject reported an immersive adult game, she stated she still felt the pleasure from the game. She described the events in detail but they were irrelevant. Subject said they experienced 1 hour of gameplay. SCP-4XXX’s rate if slowing down time was noted as unpredictable and disproportionate.
Addendum 4XXX-03:
SCP-4XXX was placed into the facility lounge for use under supervision by any staff on their break as it was seen as a safe form of entertainment. Dr. Haynes, while on his hour long lunch break, requested to be supervised so he could use SCP-4XXX. Dr. Haynes put on SCP-4XXX and entered a comatose state. According to Dr. ####, Dr. Haynes was under the effects of SCP-4XXX for 47 minutes; while under the effects Dr. Haynes would occasionally giggle and express happiness. After the completion of this session, Dr. Haynes expressed increased happiness for the remainder of the day. Dr. Haynes said he experienced a fantasy rpg game and felt like 29 hours passed. The game, he said, had immersive relationships and events.
Addendum 4XXX-04:
Dr. Haynes had requested to use SCP-4XXX again, hoping to experience the same game he was in before. Dr. #### was again assigned to supervise Dr. Haynes while he uses the headset. Dr. Haynes was happy to use the helmet again and hastily put on the headset but, Dr. Haynes didn’t fall into a comatose state; he took off the helmet and said the helmet displayed a game over screen. SCP-4XXX was noted as only usable once per person after retesting using previous D-class to confirm speculation.
Addendum 4XXX-05:
a new janitor, #####, entered the lounge of the site on break. While in the lounge the janitor put on SCP-4XXX without authorization or supervision and went undiscovered for 4 hours until a senior researcher was on break, finding the janitor under the effects of SCP-4XXX. The janitor was reported and was to be monitored by a doctor and a security guard. The janitor expressed frustration and anger while under the effects of SCP-4XXX. Several hours pass without the game ending. It wasn’t until 9:47 PM on the second day when Dr. #### opted to set up and iv and feeding tube to keep the subject alive while he was under the effects of SCP-4XXX. The janito woke up 97 hours after initially putting on SCP-4XXX. The janitor expressed depression, freight, and relief upon waking up. He reported being in a massive labyrinth, stating it took him 3 months to find the exit and he completed about 100 puzzles. The janitor requested to have the memory of SCP-4XXX erased. Use of amnestics was approved and the janitor was relieved of duty afterwards.
Incident-4XXX-01:
Dr.#### was encouraged by Dr. Haynes to use SCP-4XXX and Haynes would supervise this use of SCP-4XXX. Dr.#### fell into a comatose state of full covering of eyes and ears. Dr. #### expressed freight and distress 30 minutes into the use of the headset. The session last 2 more hours before Dr.#### screamed and began to convulse and bleed from the eyes and nose, Dr. Haynes attempted to remove SCP-4XXX but it wouldn’t come off until Dr. #### stopped convulsing. Dr. #### was confirmed dead at the scene and upon examination, severe damage to the brain was observed and a high amount of internal bleeding was deduced as cause of death. After the events of this incident SCP-4XXX was locked away in a safe and permission by level 3 staff must be granted for its use. An acknowledgement waiver must be signed and there must be 1 staff member supervising the user.
SCP-4XXX is SAFE as long as it isn’t put on, the game made by SCP-4XXX isn't guaranteed to be safe and could result in severe injury or death.
