A group of humans worshipping SCP-XXXX. Found on the wall of the cave where SCP-XXXX was recovered.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in a large 3 by 3-meter plastic holding cell. Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX absolutely no metal may enter SCP-XXXXs holding cell and the cell must be kept sterilized at all times. Any personnel entering SCP-XXXXs holding cell must wear a full level A hazmat suit and undergo sterilization showers and a 24 hour observation period.

Any organism entering a 2-meter radius of SCP-XXXX without the proper safety equipment or coming into direct contact with SCP-XXXX is to be held in observation.

SCP-XXXX must be kept under constant surveillance and any changes in behavior must be reported to personnel of level 4 clearance or higher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 6-meter tall object resembling a seed covered in a large metallic shell. Chemical testing of this shell has revealed that large amounts of copper, bronze, and an unknown alloy are present. The objects shell is heavily damaged in many places, appearing to have been exposed to large amounts of heat, with much of the objects shell having an inconsistent thickness and density. In some places the object appears to have been attacked, with large pieces of the shell having seemingly been forcefully torn off of the object, revealing what appears to be a metallic material resembling plant tissue surrounded by a thick gel. Chemical and DNA tests on both the gel and the tissue have so far been inconclusive.

Organisms within a 2-meter radius of SCP-XXXX will be infected by an airborne virus seemingly generated by SCP-XXXX named SCP-XXXX-1. Subjects infected with by instances of SCP-XXXX-1 initially show no symptoms, with the incubation period lasting anywhere from 24 hours to 6 months, making subjects infected with SCP-XXXX-1 difficult to track and contain. As the infection progresses, subjects will display a sudden urge to consume foods containing trace amounts of metals. Subjects will report feeling an increased urge to consume metals over time, and in advanced stages of the infection, subjects will consume wires, coins, and other metallic objects containing copper and bronze in order to satisfy this urge.

The subjects internal organs, specifically those related to digestion, are significantly changed by SCP-XXXX-1 in advanced stages in order to adjust to the subject's diet, with the pH of the subject's stomach acid becoming comparable to that of hydrochloric acid, teeth becoming significantly hardened in order to properly chew metallic objects, and blood gaining a green hue due to the large amounts of copper the subject consumes among others.

In the final stage, those infected with the virus will attempt to reach SCP-XXXX at all costs, using unknown methods to accurately locate SCP-XXXX, and the virus forcing the host far past its physical limits in order to do so. Subjects contained in Site [redacted] have been recorded to desperately attempt to escape confinement seemingly with no regard for personal safety, clawing at the walls of their cell to the point of drawing blood and attacking any personnel that attempts to subdue them. Infected subjects that have either escaped custody or were observed outside Foundation facilities have been recorded to attempt to swim across large bodies of water such as [redacted] and traverse entire continents in order to reach SCP-XXXX.

If an infected subject successfully reaches SCP-XXXX it will quickly age and die upon coming within a 2-meter radius of SCP-XXXX. The corpse will then undergo a process of accelerated decomposition, generating a soil unique to SCP-XXXX. Upon further examination, the soil seems to be a mixture of 10% organic particles and 90% metallic sand. These proportions seem to be linked to the soils proximity to SCP-XXXX, however, as samples taken from 1 meter away from SCP-XXXX contain 87% soil and 13% metallic sand. SCP-XXXX appears to use the soil as a means to repair the previously mentioned damage, with SCP-XXXX seemingly absorbing the sand from the soil generated by SCP-XXXX-1 by unknown means and filling the large holes in its outer shell.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered inside a natural cavern in -/-/— near [redacted], surrounded by what appeared to be a rudimentary shrine. Remains of a small, bronze age settlement estimated to be [redacted] were found in the nearby area, the inhabitants of which are theorized to be the creators of the shrine surrounding SCP-XXXX. Artwork depicting detailed scenes regarding SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 were found in the settlement and around the cavern in which SCP-XXXX was found. These scenes include what appears to be a ritual involving people voluntarily becoming infected with SCP-XXXX-1 and a large figure emerging from SCP-XXXX, being worshipped by a multitude of people. The figure seems to be a large, anthropomorphic, plantlike being seemingly made up of the same materials as SCP-XXXXs shell. The surrounding area seems to have been devastated by a sudden cataclysmic event roughly [redacted], and signs of human activity in the nearby city seem to cease around this time, though whether or not the entity depicted in the murals was the cause of this is unknown.

Addendum XXXX-1: Testing of the metallic sand particles found in the soil that surrounded SCP-XXXX revealed that the proportion of metals found in the sand, including the unknown alloy, is similar to that found in SCP-XXXXs shell. Whether the metal somehow consumed by subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX-1 or if the alloy is a component of SCP-XXXX-1 is currently unknown.

Addendum XXXX-2: Upon further examination of SCP-XXXX after recovery, researchers were reported to experience auditory hallucinations, claiming to hear a hear a heartbeat emanating from SCP-XXXX. Further studies will be conducted in order to investigate this phenomenon.
