Current examples include one pair of standard tennis shoes, worn by a typical teenage female between the ages of 13 and 17, one razor blade utilized for self-harm by an as yet unidentified trans male, one prison issued King James Bible, one large well-worn marble, and one standard issue big box retailer necktie.

Recovery Log SCP-4121 was initially discovered when Foundation statistical software “Opus” identified an alarming uptick in suicides and despondent social media posts within a twenty block radius of Southeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. The similarity of the posts indicated the presence of a potent anomalous entity with malevolent intentions.

MTF-17 (“Forever Young”) was dispatched to the high school wherein they quickly determined that a local girl, ████████ was responsible, who was then taken into custody under the guise of a CPS action. Prior to the possibility of questioning however, the subject committed suicide by asphyxiation, utilizing her own shoe strings. In the process of corpse disposal personnel noted the anomalous properties of the teen’s shoes. Site personnel was disciplined accordingly for failure to adhere to proper protocol in relation to the isolation and imprisonment of a minor.

“Opus” noted a substantial spike in similar patterns after Incident-1 and indicated the potential for an unmasking event if news media caught on. Foundation personnel scrambled to investigate and discovered a variety of anomalous artifacts that exhibited similar cognito-emotive properties. Each was tied to different individuals but all subjects had one specific trait in common: They belonged to individuals that had become overwhelmingly despondent about their lack of identity, recognition, or sense of self-worth. In most instances, the subjects had committed suicide prior to Foundation intervention.

Incident 1 As per containment protocol, the deceased female's shoes were placed within a standard shoebox and placed within safe storage at Site-XX. It became apparent after a week that this was inadequate as staff around Site-XX started to suffer from severe cognito-emotive breakdowns including hallucinations, feeling despondent and forgotten, with a marked uptick in suicidal ideations and actual suicide attempts. Given the similarities to SCP-4121’s known affects, it was removed from storage and restudied. During this process, Researcher Whitney noted that the affect reduced notably the more she paid attention to it. (As she noted in her field report, “I normally talk to myself and the objects that I examine, so it was quite a surprise that I felt better as I gave it the attention that it so desperately needed.”)
