Immature instance of SCP-XXXX-1 found on initial site. Notice that the stem has yet to be fused with the cervical vertebrae of the human cadaver.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2A, and SCP-XXXX-2B are to be kept in a containment chamber measuring 60 m x 60 m x 60 m on Site-618. This cell is to be designated XXXX-Holding.The containment chamber, through the use of artificial sunlight, seasonally analogous artificial rain showers, and native plant species, is made to simulate the climate and biome structure of the dry, southern tallgrass prairie of North America. The cell's walls are constructed of 1 m thick reinforced concrete and observational windows are made of ballistic glass measuring 10 cm thick. Two temporary testing chambers located adjacent to the main holding cell are available for specialized research and experimentation of the specimens. Each chamber measures 5 m x 5 m x 5 m and is reinforced identically to the primary holding cell. Only one of the chambers contains climate control apparatus to simulate the specimens' natural habitat. These chambers are designated XXXX-Test-Weather and XXXX-Test-Control. Experimentation and research in these testing chambers is not to be conducted by research staff below Level 3 security clearance.
Research staff must be of Level 2 security clearance or higher to utilize the observation deck. Direct contact with instances of SCP-XXXX and its variants (excluding SCP-XXXX-1) for experimental and research purposes is not to be conducted by Level 2 research staff without the supervision of Level 3 or higher senior research staff and security officers. Due to the highly aggressive nature of SCP-XXXX-1, only research staff and security officers Level 3 security clearance or greater may come into direct contact. Staff are not to approach instances of SCP-XXXX-2A or SCP-XXXX-2B under any circumstances while in the presence of SCP-XXXX-1. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary measures. Due to the psychological and physiological effects of SCP-XXXX-1's vocalizations on human females, no female personnel are to be allowed on Site-618 for their own personal safety. In the instance of a containment breach, an emergency temperature control lever is to pulled, this will release blasts of air measuring -20° Celsius all throughout the facility, quickly incapacitating any escaped variants of SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an organic compound of unknown origin that was discovered in the soil of the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Osage County, Oklahoma in 199█. The compound is currently unidentified and shows no marked resemblance to any other compounds already in the foundation's database. Despite this, it has been observed that SCP-XXXX acts as a form of fertilizer and has a profound impact on the genetic structure and growth of a specific species of native flora, Erythronium mesochoreum (prairie trout lily).
In congruence with this, SCP-XXXX has also been observed to have a poorly understood effect on dead vertebrate animal matter, namely on that of several human cadavers that were exhumed in an area of the preserve where percentages of the compound SCP-XXXX in the soil were noticeably higher than others. The human cadavers contained in this apparent body dump were determined through carbon dating to have been roughly 120-150 years old at the time of exhumation, placing their time of burial at ca. 1840-1870 CE. The bodies were located only about 800 m from the nearest hiking trail. Further research through the use of the historical records of Osage County has determined that the exhumed section of the preserve was once a burial ground for the executed criminals of the area in the 19th century.
Testing detailed in Addendum XXXX.1 has determined that SCP-XXXX only becomes active in the presence of a nearby germinated Erythronium mesochoreum seed and any dead vertebrate animal matter. Under the influence of SCP-XXXX, the plant embryo will prematurely break through its seed coat and an anomalous taproot will emerge. The taproot is noticeably thicker and stronger than is typical, and has exaggerated, hooked tendrils in place of normal roots. These roots will grow at an accelerated rate, sometimes up to 3 cm/hr. They will grow in the direction of the dead animal matter, and will cease growing immediately upon reaching it, at which point the hooked tendrils will unclasp and latch onto the top cervical vertebrae of the host, either pushing away or destroying the skull if it is present. After this is completed, the shoot and cotyledons of the juvenile lily will emerge and begin to grow at an accelerated rate, reaching full size in 3-5 weeks. The lily bloom will be atypically large at this point, reaching up to .8 m in diameter. The circumference of the lily's stem will approach 13 cm. At this point, the anomalous lily sprout is now classified as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1.
Tissue samples taken from SCP-XXXX-1 have shown that the genetic code is atypical to that of both Erythronium mesochoreum and Homo sapiens, instead appearing as a blend of the two. It is currently unknown how the compound SCP-XXXX is able to cause this
As SCP-XXXX-1 approaches sexual maturity the newly developed pistils and stamens will undergo rigorous physiological changes, eventually shifting to an entirely new zoological organ system. First, the pistils will retract and resorb into the cup of the lily, revealing a hollow opening that travels down through the rest of the bloom and then through the entire length of the stem until it reaches where the roots and human cadaver are joined. Then, the stamens
Notably, by this point the roots have grown to cover the corpse entirely. Between the roots a membrane has grown over the body, this will slowly thicken as SCP-XXXX-1 matures until it results in a thick hide into which the roots will reabsorb.
