Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a log cabin fifteen miles out of [DATA EXPUNGED], Russia—which cabin is hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 to be biannually stocked with rations and various devotional objects (including, but not limited to: crosses, prayer ropes, ikons, and censers).1 SCP-XXXX-1 is to be guarded by two low-level security personnel of the Orthodox Christian faith, who are to be rotated out on the arrival of any new shipment of provisions. SCP-XXXX is not permitted to leave containment without the express permission of Dr. [REDACTED]. In the event that the subject requests a priest or other religious official to officiate a rite, a clergyman (preferably of low standing) is to be flown in to celebrate the ritual with SCP-XXXX. Following the celebration of whatever rite SCP-XXXX has requested, the clergyman is to be given a class-A amnestic.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a piece of sentient Orthodox Christian iconography first discovered by the Foundation precursor 'The Royal Office for Christian Artefacts' in [DATA EXPUNGED], Russia, during a routine search for objects of religious or liturgical interest in [REDACTED]. The two Royal Office agents that discovered the entity noted that it lacked any apparent hostile intent, and remained markedly inert in its domicile (SCP-XXXX-1). Early records of communication with the entity indicate that SCP-XXXX identified itself to the agents as 'Andrei Rublev'.2 SCP-XXXX stands at 2m in height, with no discernible width.
SCPP-XXXX is wholly nonviolent and fully cooperative with all Foundation containment procedures. Since its discovery in [REDACTED], SCP-XXXX has willfully remained in SCP-XXXX-1. Beyond the subject's anomalous locomotion and composition, it is capable of painting, and temporarily animating, any figure in Christian iconography. These instances appear to be as sentient as SCP-XXXX itself. These instances are hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-2.
SCP-XXXX-1 is a generic log cabin of medieval Russian design. Its dimensions are 12.5mx9.5m. The interior of the cabin is spartan, the only apparent furniture being a large bookshelf in the left corner, and a large canvas in the right. Analyses of the canvas and SCP-XXXX indicate that they are composed of the same material, hardened wax.
The mechanism behind SCP-XXXX's animation is as yet unknown.
