Author note: Big SCP, always wanted to contribute but never had a decent idea until now, as far as my research shows there's no SCP like this other than SCP-1499 in which the only similarity they share is the fact they're gas masks. Other than that i think this is a very original idea. I'm open to critique but hoping for a green light this is my fist draft. I'd also like to add interactions with other SCPs and this one in the future. Thanks for your time.)
SCP-???? (to be numbered)
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-???? is to be contained in a standard safe-class, anomalous object storage vault.
Removal from storage will only be granted for testing purposes by level-4 personal.
All personal subject to testing/use of SCP-???? will receive a full physical exam (including optical and audiometry testing) before testing/use of SCP-???? and immediately following SCP-????s removal from the subject.
Records of all results to be copied, documented and stored.
Description:
SCP-???? appears as a regular [REDACTED] brand, full facial respirator mask.
SCP-???? holds unique properties than all other respirators sharing its batch number and model.
SCP-???? appears to self clean and self repair damage sustained over time eg. broken straps, scratched/cracked visor, ect.
SCP-???? appears and functions as a regular respiratory mask until its user comes into contact with another SCP. Be they an object, humanoid, inter-dimensional or otherwise, other SCPs become highlighted by a slight glow through the lens of SCP-????s visor whether regularly visible or not.
The wearer will also experience a form of immunity from all other SCPs (see addendum list for further details).
Forms of immunity to other SCPs have in summery manifested in ways such as:
- Complete invisibility, deafness and general lack of awareness of users presence. (This includes photographic, video and audio recordings of a subject wearing SCP-???? at the time of recording, while remaining plainly visible to human eyes through all mediums including the naked eye)
- Immunity to unique effects of skin-contact, visual contact, audio contact.
- A numbness to pain/injury received while wearing SCP-???? (Though these effects still manifest upon removal of the mask and lethal damage may kill a subject while wearing SCP-????).
[SCP-???? would be a perfect research tool for the Foundation if not for its draw backs.]
SCPs are capable of awareness of both SCP-???? and its user if a user attempts to put on or remove SCP-???? while in a sight or audible range.
SCP-????s real danger is limited to its user who suffers a heavy cost for the protection SCP-???? provides.
Subjects have suffered deterioration/loss of sight, hearing, movement and ability to smell, that is directly proportionate to the level (time/degree) of exposure to other SCPs and the level of protection offered to the user. If no exposure to other SCPs is present during use, minor deterioration of the senses will occur after an hours use and worsening with fifteen minute intervals from then on.
Sensory deterioration occurs only once SCP-???? is removed.
Sensory deterioration due to prolonged use begins barely noticeable to the user and they may not even voice complaints or concerns. All subjects have complained after a personal collective time of use of one hour fifteen minutes be it any singular or combination of their senses.
It appears even prolonged breaks will not reset your clock with SCP-????
Curiously, all deteriorated/lost senses return to the state they were originally in upon first contact with SCP-????, upon the subjects re-donning of SCP-????.
It is suspected this is SCP-????s way to secure its use in the future. While not sentient, SCP-???? appears to have a desire to be used, hence its useful nature and reimbursement of stolen senses upon re-use, enticing subjects desire to live in the world they once knew, while being protected from more sinister SCPs and pain.
It is for this reason, research purposes of SCP-????s use has been denied until further testing is conducted.
Addendum listings of notice (summarized):
001: Discovery of SCP-???? occurred during a early reaction to a report of a possible SCP-020 infestation.
Upon confirmation of SCP-020s presence, a team was sent in to contain the spread of SCP-020.
[REDACTED], a level 3 personal member of the team, kitted with a standard issue [REDACTED] respiratory mask claimed to see SCP-020 with his naked eye.
Shortly afterward, unable to explain the phenomena, another foundation member was called in and asked to identify the places SCP-020 had infected without any prior knowledge of infected materials.
Once given [REDACTED] respirator mask, the subject was able to identify all presence of SCP-020 with his naked eye. Upon [REDACTED] removal of his mask, he complained of blurred vision, its most recent user made no such remarks.
Confirmation of the masks unique properties quickly caused a worldwide recall of all [REDACTED] brand model respirators only to find none matched the capability of SCP-???? and the mask (now branded SCP-????) was brought back to the foundation for testing.
007: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-347.
SCP-347 was requested to preform a short list of suggested actions.
The subject correctly identified all actions preformed by SCP-347 over the course of 10 minutes.
011: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-294.
The subject reported SCP-294 was glowing. SCP-294 reacted to none of the 51 inputs typed into its keyboard from the subject, not even displaying text on screen as keys were pushed. SCP-294 reacted normally upon the subjects removal of SCP-????.
Subject later reported a numbness in the tips of her fingers.
019: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-914.
Subject reported SCP-914 was glowing. SCP-914 reacted to none of the 15 inputs through its controls. SCP-914 reacted normally upon the subjects removal of SCP-????.
028: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-993.
Subject reported a glowing from the television screen but viewed SCP-993 as anyone under the age of 10 years old would. Subject reported nothing strange or any of the effects experienced by those who bare witness to SCP-993 above the age of 10 years old. Subject complained of strained eyes.
031: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-173.
Subject reported a glowing from SCP-173. SCP-173 remained still while completely unobserved by the subject no more than 5ft away. The subject was left in containment with SCP-173 for a total of 24 hours while unobserved by any personal outside the containment chamber and the subject was allowed to leave. upon removal of SCP-???? from the subject, the subject went wild claiming not to be able to see. rushed to an osteopathic doctor who confirmed the subject was indeed blind.
096: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-166.
The subject was a convicted sex offender and instructed to refrain from sexual interaction with SCP-166. Subject stated SCP-166 was glowing. The subject successfully restrained himself from sexual contact with SCP-166 while making physical contact several times. The subject was left in SCP-166s containment for 12 hours, at no point did SCP-166 acknowledge the subjects presence and even going to sleep while the subject remained in the room. SCP-166 never acknowledged the subjects touch of her bare skin and received a foot massage from the subject as she slept.
Subject willingly complied and completed all given tasks.
Upon SCP-????s removal from the subject, subject immediately collapsed asking "what the fuck did you do to my eyes?!". Subject later confirmed to have lost almost all of his vision and massive loss in mobility in both hands.
182: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-096.
Subject was placed into SCP-096s containment and given a camera.
SCP-096 near instantly attacked the camera, smashing it to pieces and leaving deep cuts in the hands of the subject. Subject reported SCP-096 to be glowing and felt no pain in the deep wound in his hands. Subject spent a total of 2 hours in SCP-096s containment. Subject claims to have seen SCP-096s face and seems genuinely horrified. Upon removal of SCP-???? from subject, subject complained of blurred vision, his hands began shaking violently as he began to experience pain from his wounds and later discovered a lack of mobility in his hands.
299: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-049.
Subject was placed in SCP-049s containment. Subject reported SCP-049 to be glowing SCP-049 remained unaware of any presence. Subject was successfully touched by SCP-049. Subject released after 7 minutes. Upon removal of SCP-???? from subject, subject remained alive and well though being extremely stiff where he was touched by SCP-049.
500: A subject wearing SCP-???? was given instructions in regard to interaction with SCP-628.
Special measures were taken to ensure integrity of SCP-628s containment.
Subject reported SCP-628 to be glowing. SCP-628 while unaware of the subjects exact location, could sense a presence in the room, SCP-628 violently trashed around and the test was ended less than 2 minutes into its course. Subject received a gaping chest wound in the process while somehow managing to escape alive. Upon removal of SCP-???? from subject, the subject died on the spot.
