SCP-n Big Red Button
Thaumiel
Containment: SCP-n is to be contained in a n foot by n foot room with one guard at all times. Any
personnel with a clearance level 2 level 3 or above may access SCP-n. The button is to be checked for signs of damage no less than once per day. as of ///
Description: SCP-n is a round momentary switch in the shape of a red button four inches in diameter which is set into a rectangular metal pedestal of four feet high and one foot wide. The button shows vertical signs of wear consistent with repeated use and is slightly springy to the touch.
Anomalies: There are no recorded instances of any personnel pushing SCP-n. However, photographs and video recordings of SCP-n shows an increase in vertical wear patterning.
Plot Hooks: maybe we cross out some description that it's a pristine red button follow up that it's showing signs of wear. maybe imply that having the button be accessible is preventing disaster in some unrecordable way but maybe the wear is getting worse and there's only so many presses left
Flavor and shit:
Test 1: Locking the door to the room
there is a statistically significant increase in amount of containment breaches and fatalities
Test 2: getting a d class to push it
d class
test 3 a light layer of flour on the button
button shows increasing signs of wear despite the flour not being disturbed
test 4: mechanical pressing
the button is pressed, no anomalous activity
test 5: pressing the button with an unconscious d class and mechanical assistance
the button is pressed, no anomalous activity
test 6: record people not pressing the button due to random chance
d class personnel is brought in and given a coin, d class is told to flip coin and press the button if it comes up heads, d class personnel flips coin 100 times and shows tails each time. experiment is concluded.
recacted/notes: SCP-n's only attribute is that when it is pushed it rewinds time to a point before it was pushed so that events may happen differently. if there is a containment breach and someone presses the button maybe the breach is prevented next time around, however maybe the person who would press the button is instead killed immediately the next time around. The only driving factor is events unfold in such a way as the button will never be pressed.
as such dclass personnel never make it to the button. sometimes they die on the way, sometimes there's a shortage of dclass sometimes the researcher gets sick and has to reschedule. So maybe there was a point where they said hey we're going to go to the d-class barracks with like a bunch of guards
some kind of shit about percentage of containment breaches.
Also why wouldn't literally anyone press the button if they were in danger, and why wouldn't they be allowed to????
Some file about video of SCP on /// shows the button's wear pattern rapidly worsening from ntime to ntime. The button sinks approximately two millimeters and feels noticeably squishier to the touch. It is assumed a spring return mechanism is showing signs of deterioration.
SuperBowl betting pool- high stakes bet over winners of SportsTheGame researchers had shared with separate groups a plan to press the button if their team lost. Both researchers were simultaneously killed in unrelated incidents.
