Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained within a large containment facility, known as Site-██, in the appearance of an offshore lighthouse which is hollow inside and located about 3 kilometres off the coast of Hog Bay, Bermuda, UK. The facility is surrounded by a fence which goes deep into the water. There are two scientists and a heavily-armed squad at all times. The squad and scientists are positioned on a pair of ships and only come into contact with SCP-XXXX or the facility to gather information.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a large rib measuring 64 metres in length, with about 30 metres protruding from water. Every three months it submerges completely for one to two days before re-emerging. It is fairly flexible but seemingly indestructible. There have been four attempts to break away a chunk from SCP-XXXX but all failed.
SCP-XXXX is highly cognitohazardous and being within the close vicinity of the facility or SCP-XXXX for fifteen minutes will result in mild migraine, anxiety, and some loss of vision, known as Stage 1. After thirty minutes, in Stage 2, it will begin to cause high lack of concentration, frequent dissociation, hallucinations, and confusion. After an hour, in Stage 3, it will cause extreme tremors, paranoia, and epiphora. After about two hours, in Stage 4, it will cause uncontrollable crying and/or laughter, fast-acting dementia, and eventually death. Looking directly at SCP-XXXX for over five minutes straight will cause Stage 2 symptoms, and coming into direct contact will cause immediate Stage 3 symptoms.
SCP-XXXX has a great magnetic influence, making compasses and other navigational devices go haywire. It has also been observed to slightly warp perception, making it more difficult to use the stars for navigation and causing a lack of spacial awareness. This, coupled with the location of SCP-XXXX off the coast of Bermuda, has led to speculation about whether it is responsible for the Bermuda Triangle.
It has been hypothesised that SCP-XXXX belongs to SCP-3000 or a similar creature. Several sizes for the creature it belonged to have been hypothesised, the most accepted length being 600-700 metres.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered in 1989 by the U.S.S. Howard. The crew noticed the compasses not working properly and lost orientation. One crewman fell off the ship and vanished, while the others stumbled around or lay down. The Captain saw SCP-XXXX and ordered to go towards it. Upon coming closer, the crew, with exception of the Captain, began having Stage 3 symptoms. They thought the Captain was planning to kill them and throw them overboard and forced him off the ship in a lifeboat. The ship and crew vanished and have never been seen again, while the Captain was eventually rescued.
The Captain was rehabilitated at the Foundation and was questioned. The only thing he would say was "Hu ba," - Hebrew for "He is coming." He committed suicide a month after the incident.
