Special Containment Procedures: Captured instances of SCP-XXXX are to be submerged in saltwater and stored in biohazard containers. MTF Lambda-4 ("Birdwatchers") has been deployed to monitor local bird populations for any signs of SCP-XXXX infection. All SCP-XXXX-𝜶 instances are to be stored in aviary containment cells.
Public commodities confirmed of SCP-XXXX infestation are to be immediately cordoned off and inspected. Isolated incidents are to be handled by MTF Epsilon-6 ("Village Idiots"). Disinformation campaigns have been disseminated to discontinue further discussion on events pertaining to SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an unknown variant species of the parasitic Glyceridae family capable of inter-species transmission and extermination of local bird populations in the surrounding region. Premature instances of SCP-XXXX, in the form of white ovoid eggs five millimeters wide, are often found on banknotes and coins originating from the Trevi Fountain in Rome, where the water is also infested with SCP-XXXX.
These eggs attach to clothing or rigid surface upon contact, allowing the spread of SCP-XXXX across multiple countries. SCP-XXXX rapidly adapts to dry environmental conditions, invading into local agricultural/natural produce, such as apples, bananas, corn, berries and wheat. Most human subjects experience no adverse reaction when they ingest food produce infested by SCP-XXXX.
However, it has been determined that SCP-XXXX's primary host is the Northern cardinal, a bird species native to Canada, United States and Mexico. Contrary to other bird species, in the event where a Northern cardinal, female or male, consumes foods contaminated with SCP-XXXX, it experiences an onset of symptoms and behavioral alterations that radically contrast its usual mannerisms, converting into an instance of SCP-XXXX-𝜶.

SCP-XXXX-𝜶 is an actively hostile hybrid species of the Northern cardinal. After a premature instance of SCP-XXXX (in the form of an egg) is ingested, it implants itself onto the stomach walls, safe from stomach acid. After an incubation period of three hours, a larvae instance of SCP-XXXX hatches, and extends its proboscis to feed on any consumed food and the host's blood; during this time, the avian in question begins to ingest greater quantities of sustenance.
Four days later, the larvae SCP-XXXX spans a length of approximately 1.5 meters. It detaches from the stomach wall linings, and wriggles towards the brain. The larva enwraps itself around the hypothalamus and cerebellum; subject ceases movement for one day.
After one day, bulges appear on the subject's skin as SCP-XXXX increases in mass. At this point, the subject exhibits distress and agonized vocalizations. To assuage this pain, the Northern cardinal pecks and punctures these protrusions, causing flecks of skin tissue to flay off. As more of these bulges rupture, SCP-XXXX erupts and enwraps its body around the wings and feet, rendering it immobile. Eventual hunger forces the subject to consume these flayed pieces; this process continues as the Northern cardinal regurgitates, only to ingest this mass.
SCP-XXXX continues to nourish itself, growing to a length of three meters. Subject's eyes are forcibly ejected from their sockets. Two 15 centimeter appendages protrude from these orbital cavities which sporadically twitch. The subject has now been successfully converted into SCP-XXXX-𝜶.

SCP-XXXX simultaneously retracts and loosens its grip on SCP-XXXX-𝜶 to fulfill its nutritional needs, take off, glide, land and traverse on dry terrain. These movements are often erratic, with SCP-XXXX-𝜶 traveling irregularly and deviating from migration routes.
Between 02/03/2017 and 04/03/2017, a total of 18 casualties occurred in several metropolitan districts across the Americas, including Carlos Slim, David Thompson, Joseph Tsai, O5-█ and Jeff Bezos. 11 were uninjured, while the rest were hospitalized or deceased from a 25-centimeter wide cranial wound that completely penetrated the skull. Civilian sources mention "a yellow bird that dived down towards skyscraper windows and people below".
Upon arrival of MTF operatives, the body of Carlos Slim was discovered in his personal limousine1, with SCP-XXXX-𝜶 forcing itself into the cranial wound and gorging on brain matter. Autopsy revealed several pieces of brain matter arranged in a circle. Two eggs are situated in the middle; radiological examination indicates larvae SCP-XXXX within them.
