Item #: SCP-4906
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4906 is to be sealed in a tank filled with standard Foundation anomalous lifeform embalming fluid in order to prevent decomposition. Under no circumstances should SCP-4906 be directly observed for longer than three minutes. As of Incident 4906-Epsilon, there must be a minimum of four Level 3 researchers present when entering SCP-4906's containment chamber, and two guards are to be stationed outside the containment chamber whenever researchers are present.
Description: SCP-4906 is the mummified carcass of an unknown quadrupedal Anuran1 creature that bears notable resemblance to Unidentified Anomalous Entity (UAE) #0518.2 UAE-0518 was reported to have been neutralized by the Global Occult Coalition. SCP-4906 is speculated to be the corpse of UAE-0518, however no substantial evidence has been uncovered to confirm or deny this theory.
Subjects who have directly observed SCP-4906 for a duration of five minutes or longer without interruption are known to develop intense feelings of extreme anxiety and apprehension towards SCP-4906. All subjects have described this sensation as a feeling of overwhelming "primal fear."
In █ semi-rare cases, exposed individuals have claimed that SCP-4906 is not deceased, insisting in an increasingly agitated manner that SCP-4906 must be incinerated immediately. The methods of incineration suggested by subjects are typically overly excessive and redundant processes which would constitute an unnecessary waste of both time and resources. Requests have included a high-altitude drop into a volcano, simulated atmospheric re-entry, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. This effect has not been observed to occur through indirectly observing SCP-XXXX. (e.g. observing a reflection or a photograph)
Discovery: SCP-4906 was discovered by Foundation agents in [REDACTED], MO3 while performing a standard clean-up operation. At the time, SCP-4906 was demonstrated to possess a rapid-paced decomposition process. Consequently, Researcher Whipple4 recommended that SCP-4906 should be treated with preservative fluids in order to study the entity in a condition of near-complete integrity.
Addendum 4906-1: On 07/05/1999, Researcher Whipple was affected by SCP-4904. After being cleared to return to duty, Researcher Whipple agreed to be interviewed by Dr. Glade about the experience.
Interviewed: Researcher Whipple
Interviewer: Dr. Glade
Note: While most of the information gleaned from Researcher Whipple's recollection of his experience amounted to little more than confirmation to what had already been hypothesized regarding SCP-4906, the end of the interview provided some significant psychological insight in regards to the emotional state of the individuals who had been affected the most by SCP-4906.
BEGIN RELEVANT LOG SECTIONDr. Glade: How would you describe how you felt about SCP-4906?
Researcher Whipple: …
Dr. Glade: Researcher Whipple, please answer the question.
Researcher Whipple: …
Dr. Glade: Researcher Whipple, if you do not respond I will have no choice but to-
Researcher Whipple: [Interrupts] Primal fear.
Dr. Glade: … Pardon?
Researcher Whipple: It was some kind of primal fear.
Dr. Glade: I see… [Takes notes]
Researcher Whipple: [Suddenly, with a tone of great urgency] Wait, no, that's not really what it was.
Dr. Glade: Please elaborate.
Researcher Whipple: Well… Describing it as a primal fear isn't fully accurate. It was more of… something else.
Dr. Glade: You're going to have to be more specific.
Researcher Whipple: It was almost as though… Somehow, somehow I knew that, whatever the hell SCP-4906 was when it was still alive, that it wants us all to die. And that it had no intention of letting the fact that its dead stop it from getting what it wants.
Dr. Glade: Interesting.
Researcher Whipple: One more thing.
Dr. Glade: Yes?
Researcher Whipple: It doesn't just want us to die, it wants us to die in fear of it…
Dr. Glade: …
Researcher Whipple: Because it wants to be able to relish our terror.
END OF LOG
Closing Statement: Researcher Whipple was unable to continue to answer further questioning about his experience while under the influence of SCP-4906's effect, and has submitted a formal request for reassignment. Currently, his request is still pending approval. Fortunately, Researcher Whipple has agreed to continue to research SCP-4906 while his request is still being processed.
Addendum 4906-2: On 07/11/1999, Researcher Whipple's request for reassignment was approved.
Update 07/12/1999: Dr. Glade has been appointed as an interim replacement for Researcher Whipple by Site Director Eric Shepard.
Addendum 4906-3: On 08/01/1999, Dr. Glade was granted permission to attach a copy UAE-0518's file to to SCP-4906's documentation.
