Containment Procedures: All chemicals contained by any part of the SCP-XXX body are not considered as irritant or toxic to human body, manual operations are permitted and recommended. Proper protection and preparation are required for all experiments and movements on the purpose of avoiding damage to SCP-XXX; requirements and brief instructions for proper preparation are listed under Containment Status - Required Conditions.

Containment Status: Since the appearance of SCP-XXX shares high-level similarities with regular succulents1, SCP-XXX was accidentally moved to desert-simulation greenhouse Site-21-GH-D by a trainee for a week. The accidental transfer happened two days after containment, caused all offshoots (3 in total) withered and fell off; effects brought upon the main body of SCP-XXX failed to be identified2.

SCP-XXX is now contained independently in a darkroom of rainforest-simulation greenhouse Site-21-GH-RF, with a specialized plant incubator.

-Required Conditions: Circumstances with sufficient nutritive media (peat is recommended). The media should contain a relatively high concentration of soluble carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and calcium; relatively low concentration of soluble chlorine, sodium, and iron. Circumstances should also fulfill all following conditions: warm (no lower than regular room temperature, 25℃), and wet (relative humidity no less than 40%).
-Optimal Conditions: Favors completely dark (0.10lx or lower) circumstances with constant high temperature (28-40℃) and high relative humidity (65% or higher).

No photophobic responses were observed under natural light conditions3, yet direct illumination should be avoided.

Description: SCP-XXX为Dr. Ivi. J于2020年█月于南美洲███雨林洞穴中发现的小型未定义物种,目前可确定从属真核生物域4,其生物分类介于植物界与动物界之间(该生物个体分类讨论详见Addendum 1)。
SCP-XXX叶片呈莲花状排列,目前直径约为5cm,尚未达成熟期;根系发达,属于直根系,主根与侧根的横剖面样本均显示该个体为单子叶植物。生长缓慢,目前未观察到花朵或花茎。

SCP-XXX is a small unidentified species discovered by Dr. Ivi Jinn in the ██████ rainforest of South America, January 2020.

SCP-XXX的外型与阿福花科中多数植物品种相似,呼吸方式和营养吸收及储存方式都与阿福花科植物相同;以蒸腾作用率分类属于CAM植物5(蒸腾作用率与常见C3、C4、CAM植物对比数据可见Addendum 2)。其细胞中不包含叶绿体因而不能进行光合作用,与现存腐生植物6相同。暗室条件下植株主体(不包含根茎)肉眼可见淡蓝色荧光。
部分叶片细胞内含有结构类似叶绿体或线粒体的未知细胞器官,未知细胞器官中包含少量磷元素,推测为荧光发生原因。该细胞器官暂命名为荧体,荧体在细胞中的具体功能目前未知。含有荧体的细胞一般大量聚集在叶片顶端,叶尖卷须和神经细胞中亦含有少量带荧体的细胞。


实验证明SCP-XXX拥有复杂神经系统,有较强的学习能力,对环境变化的反应时间极短,可与小型哺乳动物媲美。但神经细胞种类较单一(大部分为单极细胞,双极细胞较少;未发现以上两种之外的其他类型神经细胞)且神经末端数量少而不发达(目前只发现于叶尖卷须中)。在环境极适于生长的情况下,线形排列的神经细胞以近似叶脉的形式浮现于叶片表面。神经索基本只浮现在叶片上半部分,神经索的下半部分逐渐延申至叶片中部,推测汇集点位于植株主体中心下方,该位置极大可能存在多个神经节。

-Appearance: SCP-XXX主体外型极近似瓦苇属玉露(Haworthia cooperi. B)7,除颜色外外型可区别于:SCP-XXX叶尖为卷须状,较粗,湿润,展开长5-11mm;玉露叶尖须不卷,须细且干燥,长度一般不超过5mm。
此外,SCP-XXX ‘窗’(叶片上端半透明部分)的透明度和面积都可随环境温度、光线等条件在短时间(不超过48小时)内大幅变化;而玉露‘窗’的透明度只能在长时间生长过程(一般不少于三周)中小幅变化,且‘窗’的大小无法改变。

-Nutrition: 与同体积玉露(即直径约为5cm)相比,SCP-XXX培植介质(泥炭或淤泥)中所需碳、氮、磷元素与之持平,钾元素略高于玉露,钙元素需求远超玉露需求均值;因其腐生植物特性,镁元素需求远低于玉露;氯、铁元素含量高于玉露平均值,不含玉露所需中量元素硫;硼、锰、铜、锌、钼等玉露所需微量元素不影响SCP-XXX生长;额外需求微量钠元素(元素密度与营养配比表可详见Site-21: 2018 V█,P1██-1██)。
SCP-XXX对培植介质中水分与环境相对湿度需求近似腐生植物。

-Response: 除生长环境(如光照、温度、湿度等)外,SCP-XXX可对少数外界刺激作出反应。目前发现的可作出反应的刺激包括:触碰和声音。声音测试以巴甫洛夫定律8为基础,目前发现SCP-XXX可辨认不同声音(实验概要可见Addendum 3),无法确认其是否可以辨认声音组合;目前尚未发现SCP-XXX辨认声音的原理,推测其听觉接受细胞处于植株主体下方的神经节中。由于神经末端只发现于叶尖卷须中(SCP-XXX根系中未发现神经细胞),触碰测试(实验概要可见Addendum 4)受到较大限制。

-Reproduction: 基于其明显植物外型与动物特征,其生物分类目前尚无定论(分类与对应繁殖方式假设详见Addendum 1)。
相较于假设讨论中可能的动物繁殖特性,目前认为SCP-XXX繁殖方式应有更大可能属于植物类。截至本记录文档记录的数据,收容后的观察记录总计为6个月零两个周,期间未发现开花迹象。基于其外型与叶片结构,推测SCP-XXX的繁殖方式包含人工进行的扦插9,但由于该个体拥有高级神经系统,且目前仅有主植株一株存活,现阶段不考虑分离植株主体,以免伤害可能存在于植株底部的神经中枢。
鉴于SCP-XXX主植株曾长有侧生嫩芽(共三个,后因‘拟沙漠温室事件’死亡),现实行计划为为其提供适宜环境,提高新侧生嫩芽萌出概率,待侧生植株长成再使用扦插等方式尝试人工繁殖。

Possible Applications: 目前对SCP-XXX的了解尚处于初级阶段,尚未规划未来用途。初步解析其叶片中所含营养与普通肉质植物几乎无异,未发现潜在药用价值。
根据其神经系统的复杂程度、学习及辨认能力与完全无毒的特性,研究完成后可以考虑人工选育,降低其生长环境等需求后用作多种用途。
可被视为潜在军用情报探测物种。
