Item #: XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be suspended in the center of a containment vault with a 10 centimeter lead lining at Site-██, with a minimum distance of 30 meters between the object and any space that may be occupied by individuals outside of testing. Scranton Reality Anchors surrounding the object will be kept on standby for emergency events. A speaker system within the vault is to play a random variety of music at all times. All test subjects for SCP-XXXX must be screened for prior amnesticization and repressed trauma. Furthermore, all tests are to be supervised by Head Researcher Dr. Morgan with an amnestic equipped medical team on standby. Testing beyond 12 minutes requires SCL-5 approval.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be an ancient hunting spear, composed of wood and bronze, similar in design to artifacts recovered from the Shang Dynasty. Despite this, the object is in pristine condition and is functionally indestructible. While within 30 meters of the object, certain individuals1 report hearing a melodic humming sound; These individuals have described the sound with terms such as 'peaceful', 'nostalgic', and 'melancholic'. Outside of containment the range of this effect is increased, with the greatest observed distance being 4 kilometers . Individuals exposed to this sound display an interest in seeking out it's source that persists for weeks beyond exposure. This compulsion is weak and non-disruptive, however.

SCP-XXXX is sapient and highly intelligent, capable of conversing in-depth on most publicly understood fields of study as well as many restricted topics. In particular, the object possesses an extensive knowledge of the occult while being comparatively ignorant of pop culture and current events. During conversation, SCP-XXXX generally maintains a calm and affable demeanor. It is also mentally unstable, often babbling incoherently or rapidly shifting topics during conversation. It will occasionally enter periods of dormancy, ranging from 1 week to 12 years. During these periods the object will become entirely nonresponsive, but the humming sound continues as normal.

Conversation with SCP-XXXX can potentially trigger an anomalous process in individuals capable of sensing the sound it projects. The process is anti-amnestic, causing effected individuals to regain lost memories over a period of 4 weeks. The exact progression of memory restoration varies between individuals, with no regard for chronology or subjective importance. Self-repressed traumatic memories, as well as those suppressed by artificial amnestics, are more resistant to this effect.
