Special Containment Procedures: SCP XXXX's remains are to be kept in a glass coffin in Site-13. Any Foundation personnel that wish to visit the remains, they must be escorted by two level 2 clearance personnel.
Description: SCP XXXX was Formosus, former Pope of the Catholic Church from 891 to 896.
Reports from Cardinals and several Foundation agents embeded within the Vatican Library concluded that there were several anomalous texts, objects, and entities residing within. However, many documents relating to an organization known as the 'Order' were also recovered. Studies into whether they are a organization that influenced the Foundation or whether they were a completely sperate entity is currently underway. The following documents were recovered from the Vatican Library, and are dated at the oldest accounts of the 'Order':
Note: The documents, since the time they were written, have not left the Vatican City.

Creature of Unholiness: Formosus
Level of Danger: Serpens et Laevifidus
Description of the Creature: The Creature looks to be a white man of average height, usually dawning clerical clothes, despite having no access to them nor actually being in the church. It has little to no hair, with only tufts in accordance with the hair of monks. It currently resides within a residence in Rome, where it is being observed. The Creature shows the ability to warp objects around it, changing, bending, and affecting them at will to an extent. The Creature seems to focus on the object of interest, then slowly melding it with some form of unknown power. This can be shown by turning a door into a table, slowly melding and moving the parts by, seemingly, sheer force of mind. However, anything larger then say, a door or a well sized cow, he is unable to affect. The Creature is often described as charismatic, although incompetent at most complex tasks or thoughts.
On 816, in the year of our Lord, the Creature was seen wandering the streets of Rome, attempting to find shelter. It found a residence to live within, there it has resided for twenty years while being observed by the Order. It has done little to show its abilities, and High Warrior █████1 requested that it be taken into a monastery where it can bed observed more closely.
Debate on Formosus:
The debate was done between High Warrior █████ and Bishop ████ over the problem of Formosus. The debate was preformed in front of the High Council of the Order, and recorded by Scribe ██████.
High Council: Warrior █████, state your opinion first. We expect a calm and orderly debate.
High Warrior █████: I say we take him to one of our monasteries, before he gets out of hand.
Bishop ████: That would be ridiculous. To take him out of a comfortable situation would result in a fight!
High Bellator █████: He is already a devout man, he would gladly accept an invitation such as this.
Bishop ████: But to tear him away from family?
High Warrior █████: If it is needed, then it must be done. To have such an unnatural man in the center of Christianity is appalling and dangerous.
Bishop ████: And what of his family? Will they not suspect something is wrong? How do we know they do not already know about his unnatural abilities?
High Warrior █████: I assure you, none of them know.
Bishop ████: Then why take him away? Wouldn't that risk putting not only us in danger, but him as well?
High Warrior █████: The ways we have been keeping these Creatures at bay is inefficient. Even if we do no have the ways to contain him, it is better to have him away from society.
Bishop ████: That is ridiculous! To attempt something so, unnecessary, would be foolish!
High Council: Calm your tone Bishop.
High Warrior █████: I agree, we have been doing this in this way for too long. It is time for change.
Bishop ████: Change? What do you know about change? We have been doing it this way since Rome fell! And you suggest we 'change'?
High Warrior █████: Yes. How many men have we lost to these beings? How many have escaped before we knew what they truly were?
High Warrior █████ turns to the Council.
High Warrior █████: And if I'm wrong, and I fail, you will have only me to blame for the future of this Order.
Bishop ████: You are but an young fool! I assure you this will not end well!
High Council: Silence ████!
Bishop ████ leaves the room in anger.
High Council: We have come to an agreement. The Council sides in favor of High Warrior █████.
On 837, in the year of our Lord, the Creature was taken to a monastery in the mountains of the Alps. Formosus has taken up scholarly duties, and admits to his full commitment to Catholicism He has resided there for quite some time, and we have studied him and his abilities. He does not seem to be able to control them fully at will, but at times effects that are similar, though not the same, have been able to be forced. Formosus was also seen speaking with a old man outside of the monastery, who seemed to vanish once approached by a member of the Order.
Test of the Cup:
Formosus was asked to turn the water in a wooden cup into wine.
Result: Formosus sat staring at the cup for three hours. Drinking from the cup revealed a bitter, rum taste.
Test of the Dog:
Formosus was asked to turn a small brown and red dog into a cat of any kind.
Result: Formosus held the dog for twenty minutes, after which the dog was unable to walk and only purred and meowed like a cat. The snout of the dog had grown shorter and more rounded, with the fur had become more short and firm.
Test of the Sword:
Formosus was asked to turn a iron sword into any weapon he liked.
Result: Formosus held the sword for nine hours, resulting in a weapon resembling a large barrel attached to a lance with a hole in the tip by a long metallic cord. Pulling a small lever on the device resulted in flames spewing out of the hole.
Addition, 864: Due to several requests from the Creature Formosus, and requests from the Papacy, he was allowed to become the Cardinal Bishop of Porto. High Warrior █████ has requested several times to the High Council of the Order that Formosus be moved back, but his requests were denied.
Due to the increased amount of debate and fighting within the Order, Formosus was unable to be prevented from melding a small stick into a dagger in front of a group of children. Restrictions were put on the Creatures travel and communication. The children were given venefirous obliviscor, a potion made by Chemist ███████, and soon after they had no memory of Formosus. Further production of the substance is underway.
Addition, 866-872: Formosus showed incredible piety and ambition, and was recruited by his Holiness to serve as delegation to the Kingdom of the Franks and the Kingdom of the Bulgars. High Warrior █████ has sent several guards to watch over him, as the Creature's abilities have been showing more and more. While Formosus attempts to cover these actions up, the rarity of them is no longer.
Further debates on Formosus's role in the clergy and possible elimination of the Creature is underway, removal of Formosus through normal means is agreed upon. The Order will attempt to implant several 'agents', a term coined by High Warrior █████, into the clergy in order to prevent further advancement of Formosus and hopefully obtain positions of power in the Papacy. The Roman house of Spoleto has agreed to support a candidate named Stephen in order to counter balance Formosus.
Addition, 875: Under the request of the High Council, Formosus stayed in his holding area while he was called to Rome by Pope John VII. Soon after, he was condemned by the clergy for not arriving. Formosus showed anger and distress at being held, and wished to no longer be in the Order's grip. This was denied, and further restrictions were put on Formosus's travel, speech with others, and advancements in the clergy.
Since this point, Formosus has shown aggression towards the Order, even going so far as to attempt to escape. Though this failed, a more secure area to contain the Creature is currently being built.
Addition, 891: After having his condemnation repealed, and much political intrigue from the himself, Formosus was elected Pope of the Catholic Church. This incurred outrage in the Order, as further advancement had been prohibited. But, now that the Creature is head of the Church, the Order no long has control or influence over him. Formosus was shown preforming 'miracles', but was mostly using his unnatural abilities to gain influence.
In one such instance, the Creature attempted to turn a bible into a dove in front of a Cardinal. This failed, resulting in the Holy Book flopping around on the ground, horrifying the Cardinal.
Debate with Formosus:
The debate was between Councilman ████ and Formosus in the Vatican Library. It was recorded by Scribe ███████.
Councilman ████: You must step down from this position boy, you know not of what you are doing!
Formosus: Of course I do, I have wanted this all my life.
Councilman ████: You're a fool. To have such abilities and be in the site of millions could cause havoc!
Formosus: I assure you, I have it under control.
Councilman ████: This will never end well, the Church will have your head!
Formosus: Maybe at your will, but for now, let me be happy.
Addition, 895: Formosus committed a series of political blunders against the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of the Franks, including attempting to force the Emperor to resign the crown in favor of another contender. Once the Emperor began to engage the contender and held victory, Formosus went to the Emperor in his sleep and struck him with paralysis. Due to several debates and countless complaints, the Order decided to eliminate Formosus.
Record of Elimination: On April 4, 896, in the year of our Lord, three subauscultare entered the Vatican City and attempted to eliminate the Creature using iron daggers. While successful, one of the guard was deformed, his face melded to the point where he could no long breathe, and died on the way to the Orders base in ████.
Place of Event: The Vatican City
Date: 897, in the year of our Lord.
In 897, the body of Pope Formosus suddenly began speaking in the coffin. It was soon discovered that the mouth of the Creature was not moving, nor could any part move. The voice seemed to be emitting from the skull, to which it explained it had used its abilities before it died to prolong its life. The Creature demanded that it have trial, and be freed from its prison. The Pope at the time, Stephen VI, who had been implanted as an 'agent' over ten years ago, agreed to hold the trial. Soon after being lifted out, the Creature transformed one of the scribes carrying him into a small bear, which began to attack members of the Order.
After the bear was dealt with, the Creature was dressed in papal vestments, and sat in a large chair. The trial was held by Pope Stephen VI, against Pope Formosus, and recorded by Scribe █████.
Stephen VI: You stand in trial, former Pope Formosus. For crimes of conspiring against the Holy See, incompetence in rule, and unfair judgement.
Formosus: I have done none of the sort! I acted in the best ways towards the Church.
Stephen VI: And your refusal to arrive when called upon by Pope John VIII, in the year of our Lord 875?
Formosus: It was because of those damned fools! They kept me there! Please, I beg of you, do not put me back in there. It is desolate and cold.
Stephen VI: We will see what your punishments are. So, even if they did keep you, wasn't in the churches best interest for you to leave anyways?
Formosus: Maybe so, but that does not mean it was all my fault! Please!
Stephen VI: And your actions in conspiring against the Holy Roman Emperor?
Formosus: He was a unholy fool! He did not deserve the crown on his head!
Stephen VI: But, he was elected by a Pope, the holiest a man can be?
Formosus: Curses! Any man could be holy, needless of position!
Stephen VI: So the common swine can become as holy as those in power?
Formosus: I don't see why not.
The crowd of Order followers and cardinals begin to murmur.
Formosus: Listen to me, I know I may not be the holiest man, but believe me, I know more about God than you do!
Stephen VI: How so?
Formosus: I have seen him, with my own eyes! And he is not a God, he is a man! He wanders the Earth, waiting for something. I don't quite know what, but something will happen. A demon will awake, a dragon will rise from its chambers, the gleaming lights in the sky itself with attack humanity! Creatures of undead will walk the Earth, and we will be the only ones to stop them! The only hope we have is not in God, but in humanity themselves!
Stephen VI: You speak in heresy! God cannot be a man, nor does he wander the Earth! How can man vanquish such beasts?
Formosus: I know it sounds like madness, but you must believe me! There is something that will be created, or already is created. I don't know exactly what it is, but I know it will be important. It will be something no man can comprehend nor understand. But the day comes, and you must be ready!
Stephen VI: You speak in madness! You have been consumed by the devil, and all your acts have been influenced by him. Remove this mans consecration fingers, and annul any of his orders, remove those put in power by him. It is the will of God!
The crowd begins to tear away at the Creatures clothes, and cuts off his pointer, middle, and ring fingers of his right hand. The Creature screams and pleas, and at one point begins speaking in tongue. The Creature is thrown into the Tiber.
Addition: Later, under the rule of Pope Sergius III, the body of the creature was recovered. A Second Synod was held, resulting in the decapitation and elimination of the Creature. The Creature was reported to have been 'sobbing' throughout the Synod and decapitation. After the decapitation, however, the Creature seems to have been successfully eliminated, with no further activity from it.
Sergius III was soon exempt from the Order, and since control and influence in Italy and the Papacy has severely decreased.
Dearest Council, Head of the Order.
The matter of Formosus has been a hot debate in the Council for quite some time, and I know of this. I take full responsibility for what happened in those days. But, I need to bring up yet another point. This has not been the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last. The chamber we built to contain the Creature Formosus has done well in holding another, which I will tell you in more depth in another letter. What I say is that, we are aging, and it is showing. The creatures we face now are nothing compared to what we faced in Pompeii or northern Britannia. They have grown bolder, wiser, stronger. They are a new breed of Creature. And so, we must change as well. I have sent with this a list of locations and finance rebalances that may just fix our problem. What is our problem, you may ask? The people within the Order, even the most fervent believers, have lost faith in the Order, in themselves. Several council members resigned after the Formosus ordeal, and though I do not blame them, it is a warning. A sign of the turning tide.
I suggest we take a new look at our Order, and make it anew. If what that Creature said was true, then we will face monsters beyond our understanding. Beyond anything we know. If we do not protect humanity from these Creatures, secure the dragon in its place, and contain the undead, we will lose this fight. We must make our people believe in the Order again. We must fight this darkness, so the light may shine on the world once again. I suggest a meeting so that we will be able to bring all our ideas into one, and revive this dying organization. Formosus was only the first in a new breed, and we must be ready.
