Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-3874 must be kept in a glass refrigerated box at or below 4 degrees Celsius in a metal room 10m x 10m x 10m in length. All food and beverages must be kept 500m away from SCP-3874 at all times to prevent the spreading of SCP-3874.
Description:
SCP-3874 is a cut of raw scotch fillet steak from a mammal type animal- presumably a cow yet tests to determine the animal of origin have all ended in a close relative of a cow but has never been confirmed. SCP-3874 has been observed to simultaneously cook itself to a medium rare state. During this state, SCP-3874 is seen to emanate black steam which has been shown to be airborne sentient microscopic bacteria, when said bacteria come in contact with food and beverages, the food or beverage item begins to cook (if it is a raw item such as cookie dough > freshly baked cookies) or revert to its raw state (if it is an already made item such as potato chips > potato slices). This has been viewed as the food or beverage item reverting back in time.
Food and beverage items then get designated as SCP-3874-1. Subjects that have consumed these food and beverage items have experienced peptic stomach ulcers, stomach ruptures, and as extreme as organ failure. During this time, they will begin to cook almost anything they find to a state of “a gourmet fine dining restaurant” said Dr Peter Nell . Eventually they will begin to chop off ligaments of their own body then cook and eat said body parts. During this stage, they show no pain or feeling to them chopping off ligaments and achieve the ability to live without vital organs such as the lungs, liver or stomach and, if not melted prior, will remove and cook said organs. If stopped from chopping and cooking their body ligaments they display increased hostility, often killing others to cook them as well as their selves.
Test subjects that eat part of SCP-3874 will begin to display highly cannibalistic characteristics, often eating their own bodies as soon as 5 minutes after consuming SCP-3874. During this time, they are considered SCP-3874-3. The effects that conclude to SCP-3874-3 seem irreversible.
SCP-3874 is also shown to be able to regenerate part of itself that has been cut or bitten from it.
Addendum: SCP-3874 was found inside a food storage fridge in an old restaurat named
by SCP staff after guests from the restaurant all died the same way a few months after visiting the restaurant with missing limbs, organs and melted organs. Employees of the restaurant told SCP staff that the steak at the back of the fridge cooked itself releasing black coloured steam before reverting to its raw state an hour later. Interviews of the family members of SCP-3874-3 came up as they displayed high levels of interest towards culinary arts, but they tended to lack emotion as time went on till their death.
