Item #: SCP-FLEA
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-FLEA, physical containment is not possible. Any discovered flea infestations on Foundation property should be exterminated as soon as possible.
UPDATE 12/21/2019
If any flea infestations are discovered within any SCP restricted containment areas, personnel should thoroughly document and then notify their site director and SCP-FLEA lead Dr. Sond within 24 hours and before any pest extermination activities.
After reviewing the details of the infestation, Dr. Sond and the site director may decide to activate the appropriate containment procedures and/or classify the infestation as a containment breach.
Foreword: Proposed additions to containment procedures by Dr. Cricket, 12/5/2019:
Petition by Dr. Cricket: Apply topical or oral flea treatment to all SCP with blood
DENIED
Petition by Dr. Cricket: Apply pesticides with insect growth regulator to all Foundation facilities
DENIED
Petition by Dr. Cricket: Mandatory flea treatment for all Foundation staff and pets
DENIED
Closing Statement: The low threat of SCP-FLEA does not justify the potentially large Health and Safety risks of applying chemical treatments.
Foreword: Proposed additions to containment procedures by Dr. Cricket, 12/12/2019:
Petition by Dr. Cricket: Immediate termination of all contagion SCPs.
DENIED
Foreword: Proposed additions to containment procedures by Dr. Sond, 12/20/2019:
Petition by Dr. Sond: Activation of containment breach procedures upon evidence of contact made between SCP-FLEA and any other SCP.
APPROVED IN PART
Description: SCP-FLEA is a species of flea that can teleport, using a currently unknown mechanism. Only the adult instances of SCP-FLEA exhibit this ability. GPS-tagged SCP-FLEA instances have been observed to instaneously teleport up to 1000 miles away from the point of origin, although teleportation seems to be limited to the Earth's surface.
Adult instances of SCP-FLEA are otherwise non-anomalous and no anomalous behavior has been observed in the egg, larvae, and pupae stages.
Chemical analysis of SCP-FLEA saliva from bites found during autopsy of Dr. Cricket show presence of Cocaine Hydrochloride, a local anesthetic.
It's hypothesized that SCP-FLEA is not in control of its teleportation ability. GPS-tagged instances of SCP-FLEA have been recorded teleporting to inhospitable climates like the ocean and perishing immediately. Furthermore, deceased adult instances of SCP-FLEA will continue to teleport after all other bodily functions have ceased.
Discovery: Although the exact origin and number of SCP-FLEA is unknown, the first recorded instances were found by Dr. Cricket on 12/02/2019 when she discovered what appeared to be a flea infestation in her bedroom at site 1169. Dr. Cricket has never had any pets and rarely left Foundation facilities. Dr. Cricket captured a sample of 39 live adult specimens for study, and then arranged for extermination and treatment of her living quarters the next day. Over the next few days, she observed and documented the specimens spontaneously disappearing from containment. Dr. Cricket then tagged the remaining specimens with microscopic GPS trackers and documented their teleportation abilities.
MTF "Frequent Flyers" was dispatched on 12/05/2019 to follow the tracked instances and exterminate any new infestations discovered. On 12/14/2019, all tracked instances were confirmed deceased. 10 new infestations were discovered and terminated.
No other instances of SCP-FLEA have been recorded since initial discovery.
Addendum:
Forward: The following was found on Dr. Cricket's desk on 12/15/2019 after Incident 101 [CLASSIFIED].
I can no longer stand by while the Foundation ignores the threat of SCP-FLEA. I need to act right now. We only discovered it by chance, and nobody knows how many are out there.
The Foundation is a ticking time bomb of deadly diseases, biohazards, and other infectious agents. Existing containment procedures are all inadequate. What's to stop SCP-FLEA from warping in, contracting a deadly contagion, warping out, and then spreading it to the entire word?
This is exactly what happened in Bubonic Plague. Ordinary fleas contracted Yersinia pestis and spread it across Europe, killing 200 million people. That's right Ordinary fleas are responsible for more deaths than any of the Foundation's SCPs, contained or not.
The only way is to eliminate all infectious SCPs before they spread via SCP-FLEA. For the sake of humanity, that is what I must do, starting with killing SCP-4692.
After incident 101 [CLASSIFIED], Dr. Cricket terminated. Dr. Sond promoted to lead on SCP-FLEA on 12/16/2019.
