Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a large glass tank filled with a highly concentrated Sulfuric acid. The sides of the tank should consist both a neutralizing agent to prevent breaches by the acid, as well as and easily removable inner walling should degradation occur. SCP-XXXX is to be constantly elevated via propelled current so as to prevent its contact with the sides of the tank, and should be connected to a filtration system to renew the acid every 48 hours. Should a contain breach occur, SCP-XXXX is to be secured utilizing an already prepared portable glass tank fill with substantially less concentrated acid, so as to avoid any possible beaches in its containment. SCP-XXXX should not be held within this container for any more than 16 hours so as to prevent erosion due to SCP-XXXX. If the SCP is found outside its containment, no personal are to come into direct contact with it, and all items that have already done so are to be destroyed immediately. Any persons who have come into direct physical contact with SCP-xxxx are to be terminated and cremated. SCP-XXXX is to be contained at all times, and experimentation with SCP-XXXX is prohibited without extensive precautions in place. Any breaches in containment, while not immediately threatening, are to be dealt with hastily and with extreme caution.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a what appears to be the severed hand of a corpse. The skin is pulled tight against the bone and degraded muscle, though there is no degradation of neither the skin nor the bone. The skin appears to be a varying mixture of deep blue and deep grey. While at first glance the hand looks to be heavily necrotic, very few qualities of the hand imply degradation of the flesh, only that of the muscle mass. Any attempts to dissect the hand yield few results, and those results appear to be inconclusive.

The hand was discovered during a routine comb through of possible SPC's in South and Latin america. There had been a large increase of disease based deaths in Peru. When investigated further, it was found that the supposed disease was highly contagious, being transferred through any form of physical contact between patients and objects touched by the patients. However, blood tests conducted on the patients revealed that no pathogen was being spread. Instead, severe signs of necrosis were found in the bloodstream as though the patients themselves were already deceased. Objects touched by the earliest patients also showed sign of heavy erosion despite no apparent cause. Animals too were found to afflicted by the phenomena, with the exception of all species of fly. Fly species native to the area appeared to swarm around the afflicted, both animals and people. However, the largest concentration of flies were found surround what was assumed to be Patient Zero’s living quarters. When investigation the house, an object resembling the hand of a corpse was found and brought in for evidence. While previous whereabouts of the hand were not officially discovered, the testimony by the natives supports its transport to Peru by Catholic Conquistadors during the Sixteenth Century, though was only recently uncovered by the Peruvians the previous month. It was accordingly believed to be a Christian/Catholic artifact associated with the demonic.

To prevent the further spread of the necrotic based disease, the village of ███████, Peru was exterminated, along with all personnel and objects that had come into physical contact with the afflicted and/or contaminated items. Further tests at the foundation proved that all fly species have an immunity to the effects of the hand. It was later found that any flies in the vicinity of the hand were immediately drawn to it. This has not been demonstrated with any other organism. All animal and plant life are subject to the phenomena. However, it was discovered that the infliction of the phenomena on human subjects has an additional affect. When in direct skin contact with the hand, as the subject dies of the necrosis, the arm of the hand appears to extend. As of now the hand has developed past the elbow due to extensive testing, and any attempts to shorten the arm have yielded no results. However, it was discovered that only those with direct skin contact are subject to this, and any additional subjects afflicted due to contact with the afflicted themselves do not extend the arm. It is highly cautioned against further extension of the arm due to unknown effects of completing its body, which appears to be its goal if any.

Multiple substances have been tested to see the extent of the erosion's capabilities. Sulfuric acid was found to be the most resistant substance, but prolonged periods of exposure have shown to neutralize this resistance. Due to its acidic nature, however, transfer of necrosis by object to object does not occur regardless of contact with the acid. However, as discovered through multiple attempt through various, extensive attempts, destruction of SCP-XXXX has been deemed impossible. Conversely, containment of the SCP post experimentation was easily created/maintained and therefore SCP-XXXX is classified as safe.
