Special Containment Procedures: Foundation assets are to be used for the production, publication, promotion, and distribution of maps, atlases, and other cartographic materials whose centre is not the supposed 0°0′N 0°0′E (aka “Null Island”). Depending on the target market, preference should be given to the supposed western and eastern hemispheres as the central point cartographic materials. Foundation assets are advised to utilise nationalistic/de-colonial/et al rhetoric where applicable to foster greater public acceptance of these materials.

SCP-XXXX was reclassified from Euclid to Keter status on 10-12-1954 after review by the then extant Classification Review Board of the O5-Council.

All material for official use must preface instances of “Prime Meridian”, and derived terminology, with clarificatory statements such-as supposed/ostensible/etc. as a matter of good practice.

Description: SCP-XXXX is Mass Conscious Causality Event (MCCE)¹ affecting the IRES Reference Meridian (hereafter the supposed “Prime Meridian”) of the Earth and its antipode (180°0′E/W)². Increased geological disturbance (primarily earthquakes and volcanic activity) have been detected around the supposed prime meridian and antipode, with particular effect in proximity to the archipelagoes of Great Britain, and New Zealand where the shorter circumference of the Earth (relative to the axis) amplifies the minute tectonic changes that have been attributed to SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX’s is caused by the wide-spread belief of a definite central axis of longitude on a spherical object. Whilst North and South are determined by the Earth’s magnetic poles³, and the Equator as the central latitude (in-addition to other planetary characteristics) the basis for the supposed Prime Meridian is a metaphysical axiom.

Active investigation of SCP-XXXX pre-supposed that anomalous geological events along the supposed Prime Meridian and antipode were the result of deliberate action by a physically manifest anomaly. Failure to determine a source of deliberate action, SCP-XXXX investigation was transferred to Metaphysical Research on 08-09-1951. The specific moment of Critical Saturation⁴ and the beginning of the MCCE is unknown, though seismographic data from the United Kingdom shows an average increase in magnitude of earthquakes from the 28-11-1880 event across Scotland to the most recent event⁵ on 22-07-2013.

From the point of Critical Saturation, significant geological disturbances have increased in magnitude and occurrence in the Eurasian, African, Pacific, and Antarctic tectonic plates where they are bisected by the supposed Prime Meridian and antipode.

As the mass of human consciousness increases with population, the effects of SCP-XXXX will increase with exponential function until full separation of the tectonic plates bisected by the supposed Prime Meridian and antipode. Without active, clandestine, action then to prevent this outcome SCP-XXXX will result in CK-Class Restructuring Scenario, where the supposed Prime Meridian and antipode will be determined by the boundaries of newly separated tectonic plates.

The worst-case outcome of restructuring is incalculable but will in variably result in countless loss to life and property, and ecological damage through the natural disasters resulting from tectonic activity.

Since the discovery of SCP-1023, active liaison with Site 17 personnel has been established. Seismic activity recorded by SCP-1023 pertaining to areas of Eurasian, African, Pacific, and Antarctic tectonic plates in proximity of 1,000 km to the IRES Prime Meridian, will be reported to SCP-XXXX research team. Review Addenda

Addendum XXXX/1: The following is a short-list of terms to be actively targeted as secondary causes of SCP-XXXX which are either derived from, or enforced by, the supposed Prime Meridian and antipode. If new terminology is identified or emerges, it should be added to this addendum and this document reissued.

• The terms “Far East” and “Orient” have largely been rendered obsolete in the English-speaking world and are no-longer considered to comprise a substantial contribution to the effects of SCP-XXXX. However, further work is necessary in Francophonie countries to render obsolete the term “l’Orient”. Preferred term is Asia, from which derived terms such-as South Asia, East Asia, etc. are not believed to effect SCP-XXXX.

• The terms “the West”, “Western”, and “the Western world” have become increasingly less effective on SCP-XXXX. Australasia is commonly understood to apart of the supposed West, as-well as Japan and Korea in the minds of some. South America, despite being in the supposed West however typically is not. The increasingly obfuscation of the term, relative to its previous understanding as being predominantly west of the supposedly east Asia has served to decrease its effect on SCP-XXXX.

• The term “Middle East” remains in common parlance and is enforced by its location relative to the supposed Prime Meridian. Geopolitical events have unfortunately kept the region within the sphere of public consciousness which will greatly hamper attempts to replacement with geodetically neutral term such-as the Western Asia, Islamic World, et al. Even within the West Asia itself the term “Asharq al-Awsaṭ” (the Middle East) is heavily utilised, further complicating the issue.

Addendum XXXX/2: During the approval processes for version 2.4 of SCP-XXXX documentation clarifications have been added, and highlighted with italics, before all instances of “Prime Meridian” and other terminology derived or enforced by it.

Review Document Revisions

[2.9] SCP-1023 has been recovered from Marshall, Carter and Dark asset storage. Though
intermittent in producing data, it is considered to be highly accurate and all seismic activity recorded with 1,000 km to our area of interest should be logged and used as base reference for other records of same event. -Dr. G. Hillenkoetter, 21:41:56, 08/24/2011.

[2.3] Since this Scip is a produced by wide-scale intuitive acceptance, the least we can do as Foundation staff is to deprogramme ourselves and colleagues from this manner of thinking. I am making a recommendation to the O5-Council with this revision for a Foundation wide policy against using terminology related to the Prime Meridian and that any terms used require clarification as a subjective belief. -Dr. E. 2. The supposed prime meridian was first established at the International Meridian Conference in 1884 and later supposedly defined in 1973. Increasingly available access to cartographic material, in-tandem with rise in availability of public education, has engendered in most of the Earth’s population the supposed image of the Earth with a supposedly defined central axis and supposedly derived eastern and western hemispheres; the vast and relatively uninhabited Pacific Ocean unfortunately makes this projection of the Earth very convenient.

3. In the event of the natural Geomagnetic Reversal of the Earth, it may be necessary to extend the scope of SCP-XXXX to include redefining the concepts of North and South to align with the new reality. Failure to do so may result in a second MCCE in-which the poles would return to the previous configuration far earlier than would be understood to be possible by the non-Foundation scientific community.
