Item #: SCP-XXXX "Forbidden Knowledge"

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a soundproofed interrogation room. A vial of Class-A amnestic and a fire extinguisher is to be kept on the interrogation table along with a typewriter and ream of paper. No audio-recording equipment is to be allowed within the interrogation room. The only personnel allowed to interview SCP-XXXX are recognized clergy over the age of 40. A researcher with clearance level XXXX/3 must monitor the camera feed of the interrogation room during interviews and, if phenomena XXXX-1 occurs, apply Class-A amnestic to the interviewer if they are incapacitated.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a clay sculpture in the shape of a sitting man with an unknown symbol inscribed on its forehead. The sculpture is capable of speech, although it remains silent until asked a question. SCP-XXXX will then provide an answer and fall silent again. SCP-XXXX has an extremely large breadth of knowledge, providing accurate information on numerous subjects as well as accurately predicting events yet to come. Many of these responses are infohazards that trigger phenomena XXXX-1.

Phenomena XXXX-1 has a chance of occurring any time an individual learns of an infohazardous answer provided by the sculpture. The individual's body, and any records they made of the response, will immediately be covered in, and be consumed by, violet flames. It does not matter if the individual learns of the response directly from the sculpture or through an intermediary. XXXX-1 does not spread to other flammable materials and will destroy records made of incombustible material1. XXXX-1 can only be extinguished by erasing the memory of the answer, typically through the application of amnestics.

Phenomena XXXX-1 only affects certain individuals when they hear certain answers. There seem to be innate "clearance levels" to the responses provided by SCP-XXXX that each person falls into depending on certain criteria.

  • If a person is young or poorly educated, they may only safely hear answers that provide basic knowledge on any subject. That is, they can ask SCP-XXXX for the sum of 23 and 45, but not the proof to Fermat's Last Theorem.
