SCP-XXXX, Bloody Mandrake
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must stay enclosed the whole time inside a cubical bulletproof crystal terrarium of 1 m x 1m x 1m at Site-27, at Heavy Containment Area. Instead of dirt, the soil is made of clear polymer gel to observe better the movement of its roots. The anomaly requires humidity at 75% and a temperature range between 15 and 35ºC. Proper air presure rich in Oxygen is provided through a ventilation system. Due to its poisonous properties, no personnel is allowed to make direct contact without specialized equipment. Weekly motorizing is required to check its right irrigation and possible changes in its appearance or behavior.
Description: SCP-XXXX Is a biological creature resembling the shape of a Mandragora officinarum with bright red pigmentation in its roots and the opposite side of its leaves. Thorns cover its tentacle-like roots which are used for scratching hard surfaces like rocks, concrete with the goal of finding any water resource or used for self-defense if required. An incorrect watering could turn the anomaly unstable and violent till finding the closest source of water or any liquid resource, including the blood and [DATA EXPUNGED] of human victims.
Addendum:
Growing Stages:
This anomaly grew from a small seed found inside a Daisy flowers package and left growing inside a terrarium beside a few other common house plants. It was discovered the ██/02/2019 inside an apartment which used to belong to an elderly woman now deceased by this SCP itself. Its size and appearance vary from its evolution from seed to grow up anomaly:
- Seed 2 to 3 millimeters, dark-colored pigmentation with red spots.
- Mushroom like shaped, brown pigmentation. Roots start growing deeply into the soil.
- Once reaching its adult stage it can grow up to 36 centimeters from the base to the top of the leaves. Their roots can have a maximum length of 70 centimeters long.
Incident SCP-XXXX.1
The following text belongs from short entries extracted from the diary of █████ ████████, taking place between the spring of 2018 and winter of 2019:
I opened a bag of daisies' seeds when this little one showed.
It looked like a mustard seed but dark and red dots.
I planted it as well cause I'm curious what it could be.
About one week later the hat of a small mushroom started to emerge.
It's brown and looks more like a pebble.
Maybe it's a succulent so before watering it too much
I'll move it to a small terrarium.
It stopped growing after one month.
The terrarium is made of clear crystal cage so I can see its roots.
They are turning into a bright red.
I don't think at all this is a succulent, much probably a rare exotic plant.
I'm afraid this could be specimen out of my botanical knowledge
so I'll handle it with caution even when I water it a little every week.
When I water it, the roots move and absorb it quickly.
The roots look more like tentacles than anything else.
They are getting thicker and I'm not sure if I want this thing at home anymore.
I have no records of any plant similar to this one.
I'm still thinking about what to do with it.
The mushroom hat growing out of the dirt is getting bigger and bigger.
I can see how it shaped changed radically from a pebble
to good looking plant with leaves and red wine flowers.
It doesn't smell at all and it makes me feel unnerved every time I water it.
It roots moves as well as it leaves, recreating a mesmerizing movement
of slow-motion waves.
Fascinating, no doubt, but disturbing.
I must decide as soon as possible what to do with it.
I won't water it anymore.
I sealed the terrarium and let it see how it behaves inside a enclosed environment.
I don't care if it dies.
I swear I hear clicking noises coming from it the day before I water it.
Weeks later after this last entry the old woman was found dead with multiple bruises and deep cuts all around her body. According to the autopsy, she died of massive blood loss and traces of alkaloids poisoning. After such a mysterious way of death, an undercover MTF unit was sent to inspect her domicile. The house was heavily decorated with many types of plants and a great variety of terrariums, one of them put aside in a lonely small room heavily scraped and broken. They found inside it a few bleeding tentacles as a result of escaping the terrarium. No anomaly was found inside the house and the search continued for days around the neighborhood area. Shortly after, the apartment complex suffered a water pipe collapse of unknown origin.
Incident SCP-XXXX.2
A civil plumber was sent to fix the issue by the neighborhood. The thirsty creature lurked for water and stuck itself while consuming and obstructing the water pipes. Once released by the plumber himself, the anomaly attacked the plumber. The screams alerted the MTF agent and found, both the corpse of the plumber and the creature cornered and emitting high pitch scream toward the MTF unit. He managed to contain the creature inside a metallic bars cage where it tried to attack multiple times unsuccessfully. Right after it containment, the anomaly was sent directly to Site-27.
Research and experiments
NOTICE FROM SITE-27 RECORDS AND INFORMATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION
SCP-XXXX assigned only to Cryptobotalonogist and Researcher Cassie Klein
— Dr. Herbert Kemp, Director, Site-27
It predatory behavior triggers when it's both lacking of getting too much water. Test realized to disposed tentacles and leaves shows it quickly dries and shrinks with hot temperatures above 50°C and froze and breaks apart at 0°C. Once giving SCP-XXXX the right care it will bloom in autumn. Those flowers will turn into small-sized red fruits which once dried naturally over the course of 3 week, it will leave a small amount of new seeds from 2 to 10. All must be taken from the terrarium and avoid it to sprout. A number no higher than 10 seeds are keep in case of SCP-XXXX sudden death and make sure the specimen stay safe, either from extinction or further experiments. Non scheduled sprouts instances must be incinerated.
SCP-XXXX inside it containment.
SCP-XXXX-1 was selected to be sprouted and raised for research proposes by the Researcher Classie Klein. Following strict containment procedures and protocols, they determined the limits of strength and movement speed of this creature before it neutralization. The Researcher Klein found out strong neurotoxins located in it main structure, inside a gonad and can be released throw its tentacles if it feels attacked. It can release an approximate amount of 75ml of ████████ ██████████████ at each attack. Only 6ml is enough to kill an adult human in half an hour. Beside a single gonad full of neurotoxins, a lymphatic system can be observed which helps the anomaly moves by itself. No other organs or central neurological system was found.
The following autumn of 2020 year, the anomaly created another set of instances. SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-3 were approved for sprout and grow next to each other. They showed a symbiotic relationship. They tested for a few days consecutively depriving supplies to SCP-XXXX-2, where they found that SCP-XXXX-3 was sharing water, oxygen and even neurotoxins creating connections between their tentacles which each other. Consecutively at the end of the experiment, both SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-3 were neutralized at the end of the experiment.
No further experiments are scheduled to the date.
