Description
A computer with the Windows XP operating system running an instance of SCP-XXXX. Note the computer is disconnected from the network.
SCP-XXXX is a computer application resembling a typical web browser from the early 2000s. The application is capable of running on any operating system supporting the .exe format. The application can be copied and distributed an indefinite number of times while retaining its anomalous properties.
SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties are exhibited when a user enters a valid URL or search term within the top address bar or the search bar, respectively. Upon SCP-XXXX requesting the URL or search term, the application will display an older variant of the website associated with the URL or search term. The exact age of the displayed website is determined by the number of times a user has added an item to SCP-XXXX’s history. Each added item will display the website 2 to the nth power of history items1. This count will reset if the user clears the visited history or reinstalls the program.
Any data transmitted through SCP-XXXX will arrive at the URL’s web server at the exact time of the displayed website in another timeline. The user will notice no change to the current website or timeline, whether or not the data transmitted was timeline altering or otherwise.
Types of data able to be transferred through SCP-XXXX includes:
- Email, posts, and other forms of text messaging.
- Images, audio, and video.
- Web crawlers and other bot applications.
- Any application, including SCP-XXXX itself.
SCP-XXXX does not possess the ability to modify past events in this observable timeline but can alter events in other timelines. See Addendum XXXX-2.
Discovery
On March 26, 2010, a web crawler deployed by the Foundation for discovering any confidential Foundation information flagged an internet forum with the web address www.[REDACTED].net. The forum contained a substantial amount of classified information regarding Foundation personnel and presumed future Foundation events.
After the discovery, the forum contents were copied, and the website was shut down. The Foundation tracked, detained, questioned, and administered Class-A Amnestics to 46 out of 57 individuals who were registered to the website. Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, 11 individuals received a warning of this event. The Foundation has not been able to find any of them.
