The following excerpt was found on a thumb drive dropped in front of the REDACTED embassy in NY, NY.
"Sorry I am late, I was going through the required reading and didn't hear the summons" said the man in his early 40's, dressed in a dark suit.
"Its fine O5-XX, you are still new to the council and I know having to read something and then having to take custom amnesics to remove just enough of the knowledge to keep your sanity but still retain an overall understanding of the situation is taxing. Don't worry once you are done with the required reading it happens pretty rarely, usually.." said an a older man also in a dark suit.
"Its true, but I am interested in what would bring all of you down here at this hour." said O5-XX.
"Well he won, we didn't get proof till right before the election so we couldn't stop it, so we have given him the designation SCP-REDACTED." said a woman sharply dressed in something with a low cut.
"The president elect? He is an SCP? What class? What type?" said 05-XX.
"Ketter, he is a Memetic hazard, and a Cognitohazard but possibly an Infohazard as well." said a man shrouded in shadows in the back.
"His effects?" asked 05-XX.
"He causes a percentage of the population to shift to a far more extreme political thinking, both to the far right and far left, but mainly for or against him. But some people the effect goes farther and causes actual delusions and thoughts of political violence. Whats worse is the more people effected in an area, the more powerful the effect and the percentage of the population effected increases. His image, his voice, his written words can all cause the effect, plus with people seemingly being able to infect others with their beliefs just by being in the same area the effect can spread quickly. Its like a disease, actually more like a mental illness that spreads via proximity. We have been running projections and if this is allowed to progress to its logical conclusion, this could be an extinction event, which kind is still up for debate. It might cause infighting and civil wars that rage till human civilization is destroyed, but what happens when it infects enough leaders and buttons get pushed?" said another man in the shadows.
"I mean he is a very polarizing person, can this be explained away with psychology? Herd mentality?" 05-xx asked.
"At first that is what everyone thought, till one of our agents ran across a group from the German center left party in REDACTED, that visited Austin, upon returning to Germany all of them left the party with one of them becoming an ultra right wing nationalist and the rest joining the far left. Upon investigating we found out they stayed in a hotel right down the street from the Republican Party of Texas headquarters and would walk by it every morning and sometimes in the evening to get donuts from a local shop. They even would stop at a bench next to a tree planter on the way back to eat the food outside and enjoy the weather, that bench was right outside the office. All it took was a proximity exposure to people who were infected on a semi regular basis for 2 weeks. Those people brought it back to Europe and its responsible for their current political situation. Once we knew what to look for we could map it out, the internet helps it spread, but internet exposure only effects the really weak minded, but eventually it will find a host somewhere and then start to build up to a critical mass in that area. We have conducted several experiments and all confirmed it." said the older man in the dark suit.
"Why has no one noticed this before? He has been a public figure for quite awhile." asked 05-XX.
"We think it was because no one really took him seriously, at least till he start running for President. That is the catalyst that seemed to change all this. When people started to take him seriously this effect starts to happen on a massive scale. Again once we knew what to look for we were able to see similar small scale events in his personal circle going back through his adult life, if people started taking him seriously they would take sides. We think that is why he is such a buffoon, its a mechanism to help keep things from getting out of control, which would indicate he is at least partially or subconsciously aware of his power. He seems to know instinctively how to straddle the line, to get what he wants without going too far. The problem is with this many people he can't control it forever, eventually there will be enough people infected that it will just take a spark to set things off." the sharply dressed woman interjected.
"I know its not ideal, but containment?" queried 05-XX.
"We can't because of SCP-REDACTED(2), they would not allow anything like that." came another voice from the shadows
"I have not read about SCP-REDACTED(2), what is it?" 05-XX looked nervous.
"SCP-REDACTED(2) is the core of the CIA, including most of its field agents. I am sure you are familiar with the "invasion" of Washington in the 50s by a bunch of ufo's" the older man in the dark suit said.
"Yes, it was 1952 I think. I have never seen any mention of it in the files though." 05-XX replied.
"Its in the required reading you just haven't gotten to it yet. Well an alien race, the REDACTED, had been studying us since before WW2 saw potential in the United States or at least they said so, and gave Harry Truman a genetically engineered race of very intelligent shape shifters. Truman agreed but wanted them to be engineered to be totally loyal to the president, but with an understanding that they would not help a president become a dictator. But Truman didn't want the responsibility of finding a use for them so they were kept in storage beneath the CIA building in Langley till Nixon found out about them. He was tired of the CIA's shenanigans and thought it was a good idea to use them as agents. They worked out so well, he quickly put them in charge. So as long as the president is legally in office we can't touch him, or we would all be killed, they are well aware of us. One of us could be one of those aliens and we wouldn't know till it was too late."
"OK, so we just have to sit back and watch this slow motion train wreck happen?" 05-XX said with a sigh
"No, we have a plan, him being taken seriously is what powers the effect. We are formulating a calculated campaign to make sure even the most hardened supporter of his won't be able to take him seriously. All fronts, social media, paid trolls, bots, memes, using our contacts in media to really ramp up the negative depictions of him. If effective that should stop new infections or at least slow down the rate of new ones to the point that all out war doesn't break out and give us time to figure out some other form of counter measure." the sharply dressed woman said.
"That could work", 05-XX said with a smile.
