Item #:
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Map stored in medium-size standard safe containment room in site 62. no darts allowed in the room without permission from site director or head researcher.
Description: SCP is a detailed world map measuring 3.5 m x 7 m. it depicts the world as it was on date of discovery in XXXX. When you throw a dart at it, the one who threw the dart gets teleported to the location the dart landed on. This works for any kind of dart, so to prevent damaging the map, magnetic darts are preferred.
The map can also be manipulated. Writing over location names with different location names makes the map teleport you there instead1. This also works if you replace the location name with a description of the area. This description can be so specific it only teleports to one place, or it can be more general, resulting in a multitude of possible locations2.
The thrower is teleported to anywhere within the area corresponding to the part of the map covered by the dart once thrown. This can be controlled if the thrower keeps an image in mind of exactly where they want to be teleported, in which case the map teleports them as close to it as possible. The map prefers teleportation to safe areas, implying the map might be semi-sentient3.
The map is also able to teleport the thrower to any location outside the surface of the Earth, including locations in other universes, dimensions, and even realities. The nature of these locations can be found in the experimentation & exploration log.

1: For example, writing “Seattle” over Los Angeles, then throwing a dart at Los Angeles on the map, would teleport the thrower to Seattle.
2: For example, writing “Very Large Waterfall” over Mexico, then throwing a dart at Mexico on the map, would teleport the thrower in proximity to any waterfall in the world considered large.
3: For example, if the dart lands on an area corresponding to the crater of an active volcano, the map would instead teleport the thrower to an area with a safe distance to the volcano.
