Item #: SCP-5618

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5618 is to be contained in a Standard Humanoid Containment Chamber. Both the primary containment chamber and secondary chamber is to have no access to water. Standard cameras mounted in both chambers are to be monitored by a Level 2 personnel during the duration of assigned Class D personnel scheduled visits and SCP-5618 feeding time. Two armed personnel equipped with 40mm grenade launchers loaded with specialized isoflurane shells are to be stationed at SCP-5618 primary containment chamber door. One Level 3 personnel with a history of veterinary practices is always to be available.

The primary containment area is to be furnished with 3 cat tower, a collection of different cat toys, a simple throw rug, 9 stainless drinking bowls that must be filled with fresh milk each day, 1 oversized red chair, and a catwalk that is mounted on the side of the wall of the primary containment chamber leading to a steel gate which leads to secondary chamber. A secondary containment area is to be constructed to resemble SCP-5618’s preferred hunting ground, a small wood area. The lights within the secondary containment area can be controlled by the Level 2 personnel observing SCP-5618. The same walkway must be constructed in various locations above the secondary containment area to reduce the possibility of structure damage during SCP-5618 feeding time.

In case of containment breach, all ventilation gates and doors are to activate the emergency sealing process to prevent SCP-5618 from establishing an ambush site. Assign Class-D personnel to SCP-5618 is to be escorted by three armed guards. Assigned D-Class is to call out for SCP-5618 while shaking a bag of cat treats or catnip. If aggression is shown by SCP-5618 or multiple instances of SCP-5618, armed guards have permission to engage SCP-5618 with the assigned isoflurane weaponry permitted to them. Once all instances of SCP-5618 is sedated or displays willingness to follow assigned Class-D personnel, a 7.5 cm thick steel container must be used to transport all instances of SCP-5618 back to its containment cell.

Description: SCP-5618-A is a black cat, roughly 3 years of age. When in a state of content or calmness, SCP-5618-A’s appearance is indistinguishable from a normal house cat. However; SCP-5618’s anomalous properties are observed when SCP-5618-A feels threatened by others around it or while hunting for food, SCP-5618 will create copies of itself. No more than 8 other instances of SCP-5618 can manifest in a given period. These instances of SCP-5618 are to be referred to as SCP-5618-B through SCP-5618-I. All instances of SCP-5618 undergo a drastic change in appearance when provoked. These changes include:

  • Tar like substance hardens and produces a protective shell. This shell protects from conventional ballistic weapons, extreme temperatures, and severe blunt trauma.
  • Tar like substance is manipulated to produce blade like appendages, primarily this bladed appendage is located on SCP-5618’s tail.
  • Jaw elongates to 12cm to make room for 4 elongated and serrated frontal fangs.

SCP-5618 was discovered in █████ ████████, Connecticut by Foundation field agents posing as local police officers. Foundation field agents arrived at the residence of █████ ██████ on October ██ 2019 at 10:53 P.M. Upon entering the residence, ██ bodies were found with deep lacerations and missing limbs. Foundation field agents observed 9 instances of SCP-5618 feeding on a corpse. Foundation field agents’ radio for additional assistance from MTF Tau-16 (“The Khans”) and established a temporary containment within the residence. Containment of all instances of SCP-5618 proved difficult as all instances of SCP-5618 are expert ambush predators and its protective substance could not be penetrated by conventional ballistic weaponry. The use of isoflurane based 40mm shells proved effective in the sedation of all instances SCP-5618. ██ Foundation assists were wounded and ██ Foundation assists were killed during the ██ hours it took to secure all instances of SCP-5618. Due to the secluded nature of the ████ residence, limited amounts of class B amnestics were utilized on surrounding residences. Remaining members of ████ family were told their relatives died during a home invasion incident.

Addendum: Logs regarding testing and observation by Dr. Santiago have been attached to this document.

Research Log 1 - 10/██/2019: MTU Tau-16 brought in several new subjects. Each of the subjects were housed in a reinforced cage. First Sergeant ██████ ████, callsign “Great Khan '', informed me and my team that these subjects are considered highly dangerous and life threatening. Each subject is identical in appearance; black tar like carapace, elongated muzzle, enlarged teeth, enlarged claws, and a bladed tail. Subjects appear to be a distorted form of the felis catus. Only the joints of the elbow, stifle, and hock sticks out farther than that of any regular feline. During my interview with “Great Khan'', he explained that ballistic based weapons were ineffective along with any attempts to incapacitate the creature using blunt trauma. When asked about the primary method subjects used to kill Foundation personnel, “Great Khan'' responded with “like a well coordinated ambush. Even though these things are small, they hunt together in perfect unison.” First Sergeant ████ then goes on to explain in perfect clarity how the creatures paralyzed several Foundation personnel using some kind of projectile before terminating them. First Sergeant ████ suggested that I request a copy of MTU Tau-16’s camera footage to “fully grasp the creatures’ effectiveness”. When asked if there was a need for any psychiatric assistance, First Sergeant ████ declined. I have formally requested that First Sergeant ████ field work be limited and for him to be seen by the site's psychiatrist for a minimum of 3 weeks before returning to field work. I have also requested copies of MTU Tau-16’s helmet footage and their bodies for autopsy.

Research Log 1.2 - 10/██/2019: After containing all instances of SCP-5618, each of them appear to shed their carapace and retract their fangs/claws. After about 15 minutes, each instance of SCP-5618 took the form of a black domesticated house cat. Stranger still, 8 out of the 9 instances formed a ring around the remaining instance of SCP-5618 as it slept.

Research Log 2 - 10/██/2019: Autopsy of deceased MTU Tau-16 members revealed the cause of death for all members was massive loss of blood due to deep laceration in areas that contained major arteries and loss of limbs. While conducting several routine blood tests, it was discovered within the deceased members of Tau-16 traces of an unknown toxin. The properties of this toxin closely resemble tetrodotoxin, which is commonly found in puffer-fish; however, the variation of tetrodotoxin used by SCP-5618 instances acts in mere seconds. While examining the bodies, I found several small black, needle-like protrusions. My hunch is that these needles are the delivery system for the tetrodotoxin.

Research Log 3 - 10/██/2019: Once all instances of SCP-5618 were properly secured within their containment, I decided to test the validity of the Great Khan's claims. I instructed several D Class personnel to enter SCP-5618’s containment unit and retrieve a DNA sample from any of the 9 instances. To help in retrieving the DNA samples, each Class D member was equipped with a cattle prod, a polycarbonate shield, and several syringes. D-4094 refused to retrieve a sample and was terminated. The remaining three D Class personnel agreed and proceeded into the containment unit. D-6413, D-5319, and D-8862 entered the containment unit and approached what appeared as several sleeping instances of SCP-5618. D-8862 signaled to D-6413 and the two men both stabbed SCP-5618-E with the cattle prods. Interestingly the tar like carapace over SCP-5618-E started to show signs of destabilization. D-5319 pulled out one of the syringes and plunged the needle into the exposed section of the carapace and extracted a blood sample. D-5319 removed the needle and attempted to make his way to the containment unit’s door when he was struck with several small black projectiles that originated from underneath the surveillance camera. SCP-5618-H and SCP-5618-A are then seen rushing down towards the paralyzed D-5319. D-5319 is terminated by decapitation from SCP-5618-A utilizing it's bladed tail. Both Class D personnel retreated to a far corner of the containment unit as all instances of SCP-5618 surrounded them. Interestingly, none of the instances attacked until SCP-5618-A “approved” of it. This signal to attack was telegraphed through the body language of SCP-5618-A via it’s ears, tail, and head motions. Both Class D personnel were terminated shortly after being surrounded. SCP-5618-A then commanded each of the instances to surround it while it fed on the bodies of the Class D personnel. After feeding, SCP-5618 instance B through I began to meld into SCP-5618-A body. After about 20 minutes, SCP-5618-A began to hide itself under the bodies of the deceased Class D personnel.

Research Log 3.2 - 10/██/2019: After 3 hours, security personnel entered the containment unit to retrieve the sample of SCP-5618. Sample was successfully retrieved without further incident. Due to the resilient nature of SCP-5618’s carapace, requests have been made to attempt to recreate the same carapace to be utilized for Foundation personnel. Awaiting approval from the Site Director.

Research Log 4 - 11/██/2019: Testing and the reproduction of SCP-5618 carapace has steadily gained more traction over the past weeks. My team and I created several versions of ballistic plating utilizing the same compounds found in the SCP-5618 samples. Stress tests were conducted on site before releasing for field operations. Results of stress tests are promising as the ballistic plates withstood small arms fire, several blows from both blunted and edged weapons, and survived several controlled explosions. First human trial was conducted on 11/██/2019. D-6344 was instructed to wear the vest and stand still. Once D-6344 secured the vest and remained stationary, a 50 caliber BMG round was fired at D-6344. The round struck D-6344 in the chest and, after a moment of silence, D-6344 began coughing loudly. Upon further investigation, all of D-6344’s internal organs were unharmed, but 4 of D-6344’s ribs were broken. The integrity of ballistic plates showed signs of stress and slight cracking.

Research Log 4.2 - 11/██/2019: At around ████ P.M., medical staff rushed into the room where D-6344 was recovering. D-6344 heart rate had spiked and he was convulsing within his bed. Before medical staff could stabilize D-6344, he flatlined. D-6344’s autopsy revealed that several vital organs had sections of the carapace substance growing on them, almost like cancerous growths. The team had noticed several small shards of the ballistic plate were found logged into D-6344’s skin. The most likely scenario is D-6344 was infected when the plate was damaged. All production and advancement with the ballistic plates utilizing SCP-5618’s carapace substance has been halted until a solution is drafted by my team.

Research Log 5 - 12/██/2019: During a routine scheduled cleaning of SCP-5618 containment unit, a peculiar interaction was recorded via the CCTV cameras mounted in the unit. As per containment procedures, the unit was flooded with isoflurane gas to cause SCP-5618 to sleep for a period of time. Due to mechanical errors, not all of the room was flooded and SCP-5618 remained awake. SCP-5618 was seen approaching D-4485 while she began cleaning the unit. At this time SCP-5618-A resembled a normal domesticated cat. SCP-5618-A then meowed and began to watch D-4485 as she cleaned. D-4485 extended her hand to SCP-5618 and allowed it to sniff her. SCP-5618-A then backed away and remained a respectable distance from D-4485. D-4485 finished her duties and exited the containment unit. Note: prior to this encounter, SCP-5618-A has been hostile towards all Foundation personnel to an extent of life threatening. I conducted an interview with D-4485 inquiring about what had happened in the containment unit. D-4485 explained that she had been around cats her entire life and that SCP-5618 was no different from any other. I asked if D-4485 would be willing to enter the containment unit again as a way to collect behavioral data, D-4485 agreed.

Research Log 5.2 - 12/██/2019: D-4485 entered SCP-5618 containment unit without any personal safety gear, but was given retail cat toys as a means to interact with SCP-5618. SCP-5618-A began to approach D-4485 much in the same manner as previously observed cautiously yet curiously. When D-4485 began to reach into her pocket to remove one of the cat toys, SCP-5618-A tensed up and created 3 copies of itself. D-4485 began to reassure SCP-5618-A that she wasn't going to hurt it. D-4485 then pulled out the mouse toy and tossed it to SCP-5618-A. SCP-5618-A commanded the two copies to interact with the item first and after a few minutes, SCP-5618-A began to play with the toy. While SCP-5618-A did keep it's distance, it showed no hostilities towards D-4485. After 30 minutes of D-4485 interacting with SCP-5618-A, Foundation staff requested her to leave the containment unit. Shortly after, Foundation staff requested another Class D personnel to interact with SCP-5618-A in a similar manner. D-3249 was terminated after calling out to SCP-5618-A. I have requested that D-4485 be permanently assigned to SCP-5618-A as she is the only person currently able to interact with it. Awaiting approval from Site Director.
