Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be closed to the public under the guise of condemnation due to structural instability and monitored remotely due to its proximity to site-[Redacted] SCP-XXXX-2 is to be left on the shelf with a red bookmark sticking out to differentiate it from any surrounding books. SCP-XXXX-2 is not to be touched or read unless authorized for testing by a Senior researcher. In the event that POI-XXXX is found within the Library and/or in the vicinity of the Library, they are to be immediately detained and interviewed.
Description: Scp-XXXX is what seems to be an average library in the small town of [REDACTED] Oregon, estimated three stories in height in total. The outside is thick with undergrowth, vines and upkeep is needed to prevent further damage to the building. The entrance to Scp-XXXX has two thick metallic doors on the outside of the building, Subjects express a strong desire to enter the library when in the vicinity of said doors. Photographs of the door experience no effect, leading to the belief that it is not the doors physical appearance that causes this effect. The rest of the outer building seems to be normal, aside from painted on pictures of a forest and local fauna.
The interior of SCP-XXXX appears to be larger on the inside than possible on the outside.
Upon entrance to the library, the first defining feature would be the large chandelier, designated scp-XXXX-1. Having the appearance of a large stump hanging from the ceiling, a dark amber odorless liquid seems to drip from the stump, designated scp-XXXX-1-A. Said liquid has the appearance of oil and has been observed to be utilized by other items within the building. The stump that hangs from the ceiling has roots inside the ceiling Which extend to the outer areas of the library. The small gas lights throughout the library run on this oil and never go out.
The fuel is non-toxic to humans, however consuming the liquid is not recommended as it is highly addictive, causing the consumers to think only of acquiring more, often getting lost, and starving due to poor care of themselves. Scp-XXXX-1 is capable of being damaged but it seems to regrow rapidly.
Further into the building seems to show what seems to be an expansive library, stability is questionable due to the lack of any noticeable support beams, however damaging the building is non recommended. Looking at the books in the library, designated scp-XXXX-2 seems to be completely blank save for a singular page with the name of the book “Woods” , however when photographs are taken of the pages the pages seem to display text in an unknown script. Designated scp-XXXX-1-A. Translation is impossible. (See addendum number 1-2)
Due to the risk of losing valuable personnel to the library, further exploration must be approved by at least 2 O5 council members.
Addendum: SCP-XXXX was initially going to be documented, monitored and left open to the public because of its historical significance. However, following numerous reports of missing people including 3 police men, 9 D class and one researcher the Foundation has determined that SCP-XXXX should be closed down under the guise of structural instability and monitored remotely. False information about a local cult should be spread and encouraged among the townsfolk to help explain any disappearances. The foundation sent in several MTF to enter and see what’s exactly going on, and it was discovered there were many more, and yet to be discovered memetic properties in the library.
Addendum-1-A: one English dictionary and several different characters (letters) from the books were placed within scp-914 with the fine setting. The resulting object one dictionary that had both words from the books and English alphabet translation.
Placed within storage for research.
Addendum-2: Interview with POI-XXXX, Interviewer Junior Researcher Jennifer Maridowe.
Maridowe: This is Junior Researcher Jennifer Maridowe interviewing Person of Interest XXXX who appears to be an elderly man of 80 years and is covered in bark, dirt and leaves.
Maridowe: State your name for the record.
POI: My name, is Mac Dara
Maridowe: Can you explain why you were trespassing on private property?
POI: Can you explain why you are denying people access to my Library?
Maridowe: Please don’t dodge the questions Mr.Dara, this is a serious offense and answering my questions will only be a benefit to both of us.
POI: YOU do not own this library. It belongs to US. We came here to bring knowledge and wisdom to the ignorant people of this town, YOU are preventing us from doing so.
Maridowe: and what do you mean by “us” ?
POI: We are the trees, we held this land long before you mortals took claim of it, we speak wisdom on the wind and no one has listened.
Maridowe: Mhmm.. and what do you know of [REDACTED]
POI: Ah yes, the young child. He was very smart, very beautiful.
Maridowe: Are you aware that [REDACTED] went missing inside “your” library?
POI: ‘Tis a Necessary evil to protect my kind, we are dwindling. We are few.
Maridowe: What did you do to him Mac Dara? What did you do to that poor child?
POI: I put him to sleep, and in his slumber I buried him like a seed, soon he will blossom and become one of us.
Maridowe: You buried him alive?
POI: I gave him a new life.
Maridowe: THAT CHILD HAD A FAMILY, HE ALREADY HAD A LIFE. YOU TOOK HIS LIFE AWAY.
POI: He was unhappy.
Maridowe: What about Jonathan Wright? He was one of our D-class, did you bury him too?
POI: Criminal, he was too occupied with his own selfish desires. He had no need for wisdom, he did not deserve to be on this planet.
Maridowe: So you killed him?
POI: Tell me, where do you think this library gets its books?
Maridowe: I assumed it was just like any library, the librarian brings in books from the outside.
POI: And tell me… Who do you think the librarian is?
Maridowe: Mrs. [Redacted] was the librarian here for 30 years.
POI: Mrs. [REDACTED] was merely an assistant… I was the Librarian. I scoured the town for knowledge and wisdom to put into books, I gathered diaries, novels, psalms, prayers, poems, encyclopedias and the like from as far as I could reach. I maintained my library. And to those I could not teach, they became the cautionary tales that lined my shelves.
Maridowe: You turn people into books?
POI: all who stumble into my woods become trees for my forest, all trees who rise in my soil become books for my library.
Maridowe: Woods, that’s the name of the anomalous book.
POI: You’re very observant, perhaps you are ready as well.
Maridowe: Thank you for your time Mr. Dara. Someone will be in shortly to give you further instruction.
