I've arrived in Sphere-0002 on the correct target planet and location, and my first impressions of
Hello. Hello?
Shoot. Is this thing not working?
Of course it would break
Oh, good. I'm not stuck here.
Okay, everything else still works. I think I'm going to stick this out for now. Guys, I hope you don't forget to resupply me.
Oh, and the camera still works, too.
So according to the clock on this thing, I'm approaching the end of day 1 of the exploration. The current temperature is about 16 degrees Celsius. Clear skies. No precipitation.
The composition of the air is pretty much the same as what we have at home. There's a negligible difference in gravity. And the radiation levels match with what we expected. So far, all the reads appear to be very consistent with the preliminary data analyses.
I know, you guys will get records of all this when I come back, but I just feel the need to say something while I still set stuff up, at least.
It's kinda scary here. I mean, besides my inability to communicate with you guys, this is a place with, you know, actual living stuff. I know I was debriefed about everything we knew about this place, but it's a very different feeling to truly experience it.
Although, I've mentioned it before, and it's not so different from
Okay, so the internal clock says I've been here about two days
Well, I mean the length of the days here feel the same but offset some amount of time. Essentially, I'm in a different time zone. What I'm trying to say is everything is eerie here
That's not the word. Never mind, I'm really just rambling here.
At this point, since we know the air is breathable, the suit I'm wearing is simply to protect me from disease, right?
I do wish I could remove it once in a while, but then what would its point be?
I mean, it's very well built, especially with the self-cleaning function, but I've got a goddamn itch on my face.
I'm really glad this situation is different from complete stimulation deprivation.
It's good to know I'm not going to go crazy as quickly.
But really, I'm out exploring right now, and I can't help but just watch everything. It's amazing, and I think I'm warming up to this place.
Uncanny. That's the word I was looking for. Everything feels sort of uncanny. Anyway, I'm collecting the samples we might need, so maybe you'll see what I mean when I get back.
Also, there are some relatively larger fauna that seem to be avoiding me. I'd rather avoid them, too.
It's a good thing I can take pictures.
I didn't say it before, but the landscape here is beautiful.
Well, the scenery you see in sci-fi movies can be beautiful, too, but this
This planet's sheer simplicity might just rival our own. I'd love to be able to explore more of this planet if only to see the sights it has. I'm pretty much an alien to this world, and I just want to see more. I'd like to imagine I look just as badass exploring this place as an overpowered protagonist in a movie, complete with all the required edgy equipment.
Well, maybe a camera isn't very edgy. Anyway, I'm going to take more pictures of this place.
Temperature 19 degrees. Moderate precipitation. It's exactly the same stuff we have at home. I'm actually pretty glad I'm wearing this suit, 'cause rain's just the worst.
Actually, the suit has been feeling slightly cramped. You guys designed this very well with the built in adjustments, but just the simple thought that there's something on me that I can't remove for so long makes my body ache.
I wonder if we could make suits that we are psychologically blind to.
Would antimemetics work?
Anyway, I'll just have to distract myself from it. Easy to do with all this stuff around.
Thanks for sending the extra supplies. I'm really glad you guys didn't forget about me.
Now I don't feel the need to abandon the exploration just yet.
Oh, and Mayes, thank you for the reassuring note. And you, too, Watt.
Okay, this is a very exciting discovery.
There is an organism I found while collecting samples of some of the flora here, and I think you'll all be very fascinated to hear of how similar it is to us at first glance.
Eight limbs, builds what I can only assume is its home with a thread-like substance, and it looks cool. Although, I wouldn't say it's as good looking as me
I guess a second opinion would be relatively helpful here.
Anyway, there are some very obvious differences between us, but I wonder if it can also store information in the stuff it builds.
I want to come up with a name for it.
I got nothing.
But I was able to take some closeups of them.
I searched specifically for more of that organism, and I was not disappointed.
During my most recent excursion, I found two in close proximity, and one actually started to dance in front of the other. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen, and it's interesting to think of the factors that might lead to such an adaptation.
Too bad my dance moves aren't any better.
By the way, I'm really glad we don't kill each other over dance moves.
Research is going well, and I'm not sure there's much else to say right now.
I didn't mention this before—because I would simply wave it off as my imagination—but I think there's something watching me.
Maybe my loneliness is starting to get to me now that the major parts of the research are finished, and I'm in the final slog of work? Maybe seeing organisms so similar in likeness to us interact is what triggered it?
Well, excluding the killing part.
I'm almost done here, so I'll hold out a little longer.
I do wish our communication wasn't broken, but the reassuring message you guys sent with the supplies really helps.
You should send them more often.
I must just be seeing random faces
Right?
This suit is actually getting very hard to ignore. It feels like it's twisting around my body even when it's clearly not. Really, there should be built in scratchers in this or something.
Making adjustments to how it fits doesn't help as much as it used to. I don't really think we were meant to wear stuff like this for so long.
Adjusting it back and forth to try to scratch my back doesn't really help either.
Well, I could never actually reach my back myself, so I guess it's better than usual.
I still don't know if I'm seeing things due to my increasing discomfort here, so I think I'm going to try to investigate them.
Let's hope they're not real.
Something about them makes my skin crawl.
I think something has been messing with my shelter and work.
I thought I might have been wrong before, but now I'm certain something has been taking my research and putting it back later.
I have the before and after pictures to prove it.
It's definitely those things I'd spot watching me. They're real, but I only ever see them for milliseconds before they disappear.
I've tried taking images of them, too, but I'm never ready.
I just need to get this suit off. Every adjustment I make to it feels wrong. Those things in the distance feel wrong. All of my body feels restless. I just need to stretch out of this thing.
You'd think all this would motivate me to finish the rest of the work faster, but it's only distracting.
Why don't I have another goddamn person to talk to?
Hello?
Can you hear me?
It's been about two days, I haven't seen those things at all, I feel slightly more comfortable, and I'm finished with everything.
I just feel so ecstatic to be coming back home again.
Okay guys, I just finished looking around one last time before I leave.
I had some time to think, and retroactively, everything I complained about earlier doesn't seem so bad now that I'm leaving.
I'll see you guys in a few-
Unintelligible speech and screaming can be heard from SCP-XXXX-A as well as muffled noise from an outside source
I
It was one of those fucking things. I saw it up close, and I nearly jumped out of this goddamn suit.
It was in my shelter and touching my research. I don't know how I didn't realize it before, but they are probably intelligent. I think I spotted something that looked like a remote communication device on the one that was just here. Who knows what they could do to me?
Really guys, I'm glad to have been a part of this. It's been fun. But there are some things straight out of a horror movie I wasn't truly prepared for, and I just need to use my actual hands to scratch those places I need to scratch, you know?
I actually managed to snag a probably blurry picture of it this time. You guys tell me if body horror on this level doesn't creep you out.
Make room everyone. This big baby's coming back home.
