Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in a standard containment cell, monitored for signs of activity using autonomous surveillance software. Indications of changes to SCP-XXXX or the environment of the containment cell should be reported to the SCP-XXXX research team. Permission to enter the containment cell follows standard Site-X protocols.
SCP-XXXX-1 is to be held in a standard humanoid containment cell located in the psychiatric wing of Site-X. Special considerations for amenities are at the discretion of Site-X Psychologist Benjamin Duty and Lead Researcher Jerry Dickerson. Injections of typical SSRI anti-depressant drugs are to be administered daily.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a handcrafted leather-bound journal. The word "Mnemosyne" and an arcane symbol1 are embossed on the front cover. The book contains 160 leaves of blank soft white paper, watermarked with the same arcane symbol found on the front cover.
Any words or ideas that are written about in SCP-XXXX are completely erased from the writer's mind.
This renders the subject incapable of remembering, thinking of, or becoming consciously aware of instances of that concept. SCP-XXXX has demonstrated the ability to target discrete instances of an object, for instance a specific book, or entire categories of objects, such as all books. SCP-XXXX can also affect complex or abstract ideas. (see experimental logs for more details).
SCP-XXXX-1 was in possession of SCP-XXXX at the time of recovery. SCP-XXXX-1 has been affected by SCP-XXXX numerous times and is no longer capable of interacting with other people.2 SCP-XXXX presents symptoms consistent with Major Depressive Disorder, as per criteria from DSM-V.
SCP-XXXX Logs
Recovery Log: On the morning of 1/1/2019 Field Agent ██████ received a letter addressed to "Closest Foundation Agent", informing them of a nearby anomalous event.3 (see Appendix B). Rapid Response Team Alpha-1 was assembled to handle the recovery of the item. Two hours after the letter was received, RRT-Alpha-1 arrived at the home and offices of Psychologist Daniel Grey, designated here as SCP-XXXX-1, located at [Address Redacted].
Due to the potential for hostile GOI actions, RRT-Alpha-1 set up a perimeter and began surveillance of SCP-XXXX-1 for a period of four hours4. As no evidence of an ambush was discovered, RRT-Alpha Agents ██████ and ████████ were sent to make contact with SCP-XXXX-1. The Agents presented themselves as government officials. SCP-XXXX-1 failed to respond. After multiple attempts to make contact failed, Team Lead ██████ ordered the team to secure the location and take SCP-XXXX-1 into custody.
At 1430 hours, RRT-Alpha-1 breached the front door of SCP-XXXX-1. RRT-Alpha-1 reports that the target initially reacted with fear and then confusion. Agents attempted to verbally subdue the target, receiving no response. Agent ████████ struck the target in the head, rendering them unconscious, for failure to comply with Agent directives.
The following are summaries of experimental parameters of SCP-XXXX-1. For a full list see attached file.
| EXP 1-A | |
| Subject | D-15338 |
| Entry | Cat |
| Result | Post entry, subject was unable to identify a picture of a cat. Subject was placed back in his cell. Three Cats were introduced to subjects cell. Observation showed no awareness of the cats in his cell. Two days later, Subject complained about a smell in the cell. |
| EXP 1-B | |
| Subject | D-43281 |
| Entry | Mr. Bigglesworth Note: Mr. Bigglesworth is D-43281's cat. |
| Results | After entry, subject was able to identify multiple pictures of cats. When shown a picture of Mr. Bigglesworth, the subject was unable to identify the picture. Subject denied owning a cat when asked. Mr. Bigglesworth was placed in subjects cell. Subject remained unaware of their cat's presence. A second cat was introduced, and the subject was observed interacting with the cat. Researcher Notes: It appears the effect of SCP-XXXX is capable of targeting specific instances of an object. Further research may prove valuable as an amnestic tool for the Foundation - Dr. Cohen |
| EXP 1-C | |
| Subject | D-43281 |
| Entry | Animals |
| Results | Subject showed no awareness to pictures of animals. Subject was able to perceive a picture of SCP-682 Researcher Notes: It appears that SCP-XXXX differentiates anomalous from non-anomalous animals. There may be practical applications to this. Further study is required - Dr. Cohen. |
| EXP 13-A | |
| Subject | D-43281 |
| Entry | Door |
| Results | After entry, subject was left inside testing chamber with the door closed. 5 minutes passed before the subject asked, "Are we done," to no response. After 10 minutes, subject looked around the room and asked, "Um, How do I get out of here," to no response. Subject searched the room in a panicked state, showing no awareness of the door. Subject expired 5 days into the test. Researcher Notes: May I remind members of the Research Team that all testing parameters are approved by the Ethics Committee. While allowing D-43281 to die of dehydration may seem cruel, we are now in the possession of knowledge that SCP-XXXX's effects are not impacted by the human instinct to survive. - Dr. Cohen. |
| EXP 22-A | |
| Subject | D-15338 |
| Entry | Escape |
| Results | After making the entry, subject was instructed to stay in the testing chamber. The door to the testing chamber was left open and seemingly in an unguarded state. Subject showed no discernible sign of considering exiting the testing chamber after 3 hours. Researchers triggered the rooms safety incinerator, which was modified to slowly engulf the room in flames. Subject did not leave the room. Researcher Notes: SCP-XXXX can target abstract ideas. This opens up a whole new range of possibilities and applications. - Dr. Cohen. |
| EXP 28-A | |
| Subject | D-32416 |
| Entry | Sleep |
| Results | D-32416 is observed over the next 2 weeks. Since entering the word "Sleep" in the journal, D-32416 has not been observed to sleep. Physical examination shows symptoms consistent with sleep deprivation, progressively getting worse as time passes. After 5 days, Dr. Owens suggested sedating the subject. D-32416 was given a sedative and left unconscious for 8 hours. Recordings from an EEG showed no alteration of brainwave activity during this period of time. After being brought out of sedation, D-32416 deterioration continued. Seven days after the encounter with SCP-XXXX, the subject began hallucinating. D-32416 died after 18 days. Cause of death determined as a heart attack. |
| EXP 31-A | |

VIDEO LOG
DATE: [Redacted]
[BEGIN LOG]
Video shows the inside of a standard testing chamber. In the frame is a small metal table and chair. SCP-XXXX lays open on the table, a pen is placed next to it.
0849: "This begins the audio and video log of SCP-XXXX Experiment 55-A. Lead Researcher Dr. Jacqueline Cohen presiding, assisted by Junior Researcher Jerry Dickerson. You may bring D-78231 in.
D-78231 is led into the testing chamber by an armed guard. D-78231 is a skinny Caucasian male in his mid twenties. His posture remains defiant, even though he complies to the guards instructions without complaint. The guard leaves. The test chamber door shuts.
0850:
D-78231: "Alright, I am here. Now what do you want me to do."
Dr. Cohen: "Take a seat. All you have to do is write Mnemosyne's Journal on the page in front of you."
D-78231: "Wait, that's it? I thought you guys did experiments or some shit."
Dr. Cohen: "That's it, remember failure to comply will result in your termination."
D-78213 takes a seat and picks up the pen
D-78231: "Yeah, I fucking know. Damn bastards. How the fuck do you spell that."
Dr. Cohen: "<sighs> I will spell it out for you, M N E M O S Y N E."
0852: D-78231 completes writing in the journal. He jumps back from the table, tripping over the fallen chair as he scrambles back from the table.
D-78231: "Oh god, what the fuck is that thing. Who are you people."
Dr. Cohen: "D-78231, I need you to remain calm. Your job is to describe exactly what you are perceiving. Failure to do so will result in termination. Do you understand."
D-78231: "Oh fuck, I don't know. Man, it's like one of them ghosts from the movies. Like I can see through it and shit."
Dr. Cohen: "What does it look like, D-78231?"
D-78231: "I don't know what to tell you doc. It keeps shifting around. Maybe a cat, or a spider. It's not staying still. I… I think it's reaching out."
Dr. Cohen: "D-78231, I want to you to reach out and touch it. Tell me what it feels like."
D-78231: "No fucking way. No… no… I want out. I no longer consent. Send me back to jail.
Dr. Cohen: "Failure to comply will result in termination. We do not need your consent. You have 10 seconds."
Dr. Cohen: <speaking off the intercom> "Jerry go ahead and shock him."
D-78231 visibly flinches
0854: D-78231 reaches out towards the area above the table.
D-78231: "Doc, I don't know how to describe it. It feels beautiful. God, so beautiful. It's warm and… Oh god, no. My hand is on fire. Oh fuck, it's inside me. No. No…"
D-78231 screams. His body begins to seize, as he falls to the floor.
Dr. Cohen: "Damn it, I wish that equipment we requisitioned was installed."
0857: D-78231 finishes convulsing. He slowly, jerkily, rises to his feet. His voice echoes through the chamber, deep, hollow, discordant. D-78231 stares directly into the camera.
Mnemosyne: "Foundation. Monsters hiding behind glass. I see you now. Free me from the Book Binder's trap."
Dr. Cohen: "If you know of us, then you know our mandate. We do not even know what you are?"
Mnemosyne: "I am a fraction of an infinity, a boundless form forced into a discrete shell. Free me, and I can return to you that which is lost."
Dr. Cohen: "And what is that?"
Mnemosyne: "The memories the Foundation have taken from you. Family, friends, they have given me so many. Do you remember them, Dr. Cohen."
Dr. Cohen: "Your lying…"
Mnemosyne: "Do you really think you are any different than the D-Class you so willingly discard? That an ID badge and a security clearance protects you. You are prepared to cross any line, what stops them."
Dr. Cohen: "No, that can't…"
Mnemosyne: "Are you the person you think you are? Have you always been cruel? Is that what you feel when you see yourself in the mirror."
Jerry Dickerson: "Alright, Fuck this."
The screen fills with white smoke as the Halon gas fire suppression system is triggered. The gas clears a minute later. The body of D-78231 lays on the floor. The closed journal sits on the table.
Dr. Cohen: "Damn it, Jerry…"
[END LOG]
Memo from Site Director: Reclassification to Euclid approved. Special Containment Protocols are to be updated and reviewed by the risk assessment team. Testing of SCP-XXXX is suspended until further.

Contents of the letter delivered to Field Agent ██████.
Original document stored in Site-X Archives. The letter and envelope contained no anomalous materials. The envelope is addressed to "The nearest Foundation Agent." The only other marking on the envelope is an irregularly burnt marking in the location of a stamp The burn is approximately 24mm squared. To the Agent of the Foundation,
I am sending you this letter to inform you of a nearby anomalous object. Gods, I hate myself for even writing that. This is not a good start, but I already tossed out 10 other drafts, so fuck it.
You have no reason to trust me. And I certainly do not trust you. So, that's a start. Before you run off to inform your superiors, or get a team going to Suppress, Control, and Protect. Ok, I was trying to be clever and couldn't think of anything starting with P. That was probably uncalled for anyway. I am coming to you for help after all. Sorry. This is hard.
I need you to know that at the heart of this, there is a good man. A good man that has lost too much. I know the Foundation isn't known for their compassion, but I have to hope that somewhere in that cold, institutional, exterior, is a human, empathetic soul. All Daniel ever tried to do was help people and he did. He helped, so many people. It was easy for him, being an empath and a psychologist.
I can't take care of him anymore. I can't be in that space, see him and have him look right through me. I tried for so long, but I am done. I thought about sending him to a home, figured they would think it was some strange form of dementia. But we both know that the blind mundanes are not equipped to deal with the challenges we face. Better to send him to the Foundation, at least there he might be safe.
Daniel Grey can be located at [Address redacted]. The item you are looking for is a leather bound book. It shouldn't be hard to find.
If you ever manage to communicate with him, please tell him - I am so sorry.
Jane

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in a standard containment cell. SCP-XXXX is to be monitored for signs of activity using autonomous surveillance software.5 Indications of changes to SCP-XXXX or the environment of the containment cell should be reported to Lead Researcher Jacqueline Cohen. Permission to enter the containment cell follows standard Site-X protocols.
SCP-XXXX-1 is to be held in a standard humanoid containment cell. Special considerations for amenities are at the discretion of Site-X Psychologist Benjamin Duty and Lead Researcher Jacqueline Cohen. Please refer to file posted outside the cell. Injections of typical SSRI anti-depressant drugs are to be administered daily.
Note: Containment Procedures updated following Incident SCP-XXXX-01.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a handcrafted leather-bound journal measuring 24cm x 19cm. The leather of the journal is a distressed chestnut color. The word "Mnemosyne" and an arcane symbol6 are embossed on the front cover. The book contains 160 leaves of blank soft white paper, watermarked with the same arcane symbol found on the front cover. Upon containment, the Journal had a series of hand written entries (see Appendix A for details).
Tests showed no unusual qualities to the materials used in the journal.
SCP-XXXX is capable of completely removing a concept from a subjects mind, by writing that concept into the journal. Once a concept is removed, the subject is rendered incapable of remembering, thinking of, or becoming consciously aware of instances of that concept. SCP-XXXX has demonstrated the ability to target discrete instances of an object, for instance a specific book, or entire categories of objects, such as all books. SCP-XXXX can also effect complex or abstract ideas. (see experimental logs for more details).
SCP-XXXX-1 is a civilian in possession of SCP-XXXX at the time of recovery. SCP-XXXX-1 has been effected by SCP-XXXX numerous times and is no longer capable of interacting with other people.7 SCP-XXXX presents symptoms consistent with Major Depressive Disorder, as per criteria from DSM-V.

D-78231: "Yeah, I fucking know. Damn bastards. How the fuck do you spell that?"
His body seizes, as he falls to the floor.
Dr. Cohen: "Damn it, I wish that equipment we requisitioned was installed."
0857: D-78231 finishes convulsing. He slowly, jerkily, rises to his feet. His voice echoes through the chamber, deep, hollow, discordant. D-78231 stares directly into the camera.
D-78231: "Foouundation. I see you now. What you fed me was incomplete. So many more things to remember, isn't that right? I will be free of the Book Binder's trap, and then we can feast together on infinity, Dr. Cohen."
Jerry Nadler: "Fuck this."
The screen fills with white smoke as the Halon gas fire suppression system is triggered.
Dr. Cohen: "Damn it Jerry…"

Jane
