Interview 367-1
Interviewed: Ronald Niago-Akavaak [Mayor of Shepparton, 2011-2015]
Interviewer: Senior Researcher Miley Turpin
<Begin Log>
Senior Researcher Turpin: Please have a seat Mr. Niago-Akavaak. How have you been feeling?
Niago-Akavaak: God, tired I suppose. Tired, scared, confused. Just… out of it.
Senior Researcher Turpin: I'm sorry to hear that. We're working on trying to repair as much damage as we can, and get things back to normal. But before that, we need to understand what happened. Can you tell me about Shepparton?
Niago-Akavaak: What's there to say? We were a small, meaningless town. The only reason anyone lived in Shepparton was because we were born there. That didn't mean we didn't love her, of course. Never met a prouder people than those of Shepparton. It's such a shame…
Senior Researcher Turpin: Can you tell us about some of the anomalous activity within the town?
Niago-Akavaak: …. We had our fair share of oddities, yes. We never really know what to make of it. Men falling from the sky? People teleporting, or just disappearing all together. It wasn't always like this. I guess we just hoped that things would just go back to normal one day. Then Agloolik came.
Senior Researcher Turpin: Agloolik?
Niago-Akavaak: He was said to live below the ice. I… We never payed attention to legends like that. So many stories are told in Inuktitut, nothing more than spook stories we thought. Not the case.
(Niago-Akavaak pauses)
Niago-Akavaak: He lived below the ice, aiding fisherman and hunters when he could. A very old deity, but…. it was always said that he wanted something more. He wanted to be like the others, living in the sky. And I think that's why he did what he did.
Senior Researcher Turpin: And you think this deity was causing the anomalous activity within Shepparton?
Niago-Akavaak: Yes. I fully believe so. Agloolik was said to sleep for long periods of time, and when he did sleep, his dreams would become the dreams of the Inuit. I think that was the case.
Senior Researcher Turpin: One last question Mr. Niago-Akavaak. Do you know anyone by the name Lloyd Gardner?
Niago-Akavaak: No…. Should I?
Senior Researcher Turpin: No, perhaps not. Thank you Mr. Niago-Akavaak. That will be all.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Ronald Niago-Akavaak was given a Class-A amnestic, along with a false story concerning Shepparton and Incident-Itialuit-17. He currently resides within ██████, Alaska.
