SCP-XXXX "The Chairlift"

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Access to SCP-XXXX by civilians is to be unconditionally denied. A chain-link fence 182 centimeters in height is to be erected around SCP-XXXX’s lower and upper loading points at a 50-meter radius around each station. Stations are to be monitored by 24-hour video surveillance cameras. Guards are to be stationed at both the lower and upper entrances into the enclosure, with orders to escort any non-Foundation personnel who approach within 300 meters of either station away, and administer them low-grade amnestics. Non-compliant personnel are to be tranquilized and administered low-grade amnestics. Researcher clearance of level 1 or higher is required to access SCP-XXXX, and any access is to be documented by time of arrival and time of departure.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a chairlift of unknown origin, approximately 1.6 kilometers in length, located near ███████ Mountain Resort, ███████, United States. Each chair, of which there are 122, seats up to four occupants. Object contains nineteen lift towers, and appears to be made by lift manufacturer Poma, however Poma claims to have never installed a lift at that location at any point in time. Lift is observed to operate indefinitely, however no power source or entities operating SCP-XXXX have been observed.
During the winter months, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:45 PM, the hours of operation of many ski resorts in the area, SCP-XXXX is a standard chairlift, exhibiting no anomalous properties. However, access by civilians is still to be denied during these hours, due to SCP-XXXX’s rickety and therefore unsafe state. After 3:45 PM, the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX resume. All subjects who have ridden SCP-XXXX after hours report the following:
Time dilation, from a ride lasting normally 10 minutes to lasting 30 minutes or more from the subject’s perspective.
Moments of intense acrophobia, even among individuals not known to have any fear of heights.
Intense winds of up to 100 km/h, even when little wind is present at either loading station.
Sightings of one or multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-1.

During spring, summer, and autumn, no anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX have been recorded.

SCP-XXXX-1 are humanoid entities taking on the appearance of a skier, ranging from 170 to 190 centimeters in height and 60 to 90 kilograms in weight, with pale blue skin and abnormally large heads. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 frequently appear and disappear after hours and when no human or sentient entity is viewing them. As a result of this, there have never been more than 17 instances observed on or near SCP-XXXX at one time. However, when an individual boards the same chair as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1, the entity will aggressively attempt to knock them off of the chair and potentially send them falling to their death. Only one exception to this is known (see Incident 01).

Upon reaching the top of SCP-XXXX, subjects will report one of three things:
-Nothing happens to the subject. Occurs about 47% of the time.
-Dizziness, which will usually lead to fainting some time later. This occurs roughly 45% of the time.
-A sense of increasingly extreme cold and hypothermia, which leads to the subject expiring within the next 20 minutes if they are not taken to warmth. Personnel already atop SCP-XXXX do not report this phenomenon. Occurs roughly 8% of the time.

Incident 01: On 01/31/2017, two of three personnel were reported missing after a test involving SCP-XXXX. All three were class-D personnel, assigned to SCP-XXXX for testing. Subjects boarded the lift without incident, and the nearest instance of SCP-XXXX-1 was located twelve chairs ahead of the subjects. Despite this distance, after its chair passed the eleventh tower, an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 began to rapidly climb down the cable towards the subjects and managed to successfully knock two off of the chair, until it was forced off itself by the second subject grabbing onto its leg as they fell, ultimately resulting in the presumed termination of both. Third subject was recovered approximately eight minutes after reaching the top and falling unconscious. To date, it is still unknown as to what caused the instance of SCP-XXXX-1 to attack from such a distance.
