Item #: SCP-0402

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-0402 should be kept in an isolated 3m x 3m x 3m room with all inner surfaces lined with lead. It is to be locked in a plexiglass container on a pedestal in the room's center. It is to be handled using gloves, unless for experimentation.

SCP-0402 has been reported to be found on the floor of it's chamber outside of the plexiglass box.

Personnel who come into contact with it must have at least level 3 clearance. Testing with SCP-0402 must only be done with class-D subjects.

Description: SCP-0402 is a gemstone of an unknown composition. SCP-0402 was found in the lobby of an SCP containment facility. Testing has revealed that it emits particles that produce an unknown type of radiation. There is some fear pertaining to SCP-0402's stability.

SCP-0402's coloring is unable to be discerned, as all subject's accounts are conflicting when pertaining to color. If footage of SCP-0402 is viewed by multiple subjects, there seems to be a random chance for any subject to see a specific color. After a subject initially views SCP-0402, they will always perceive it as the same color as the first time they saw it.

When subjects have come into (physical) contact with SCP-0402, there were varying effects. Some subjects were interviewed and found to have no noticeable effect, whereas others seemed to go insane. Another result that is of note is that some of the subjects who were evaluated as being sane reported experiencing the Mandela Effect relatively frequently afterwards. Some of the subjects deemed insane seemed disoriented and confused about their surroundings, sometimes asking things like, "how did I get here?"

Current theories on the nature of SCP-0402 can't explain much. The current accepted theory is that SCP-0402 has properties that allow for the alteration of reality.
