Item #: SCP-4235

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-4235 consists of a simple room furnished with a single desk for the artifact to be placed on, and a chair for a subject to use while engaging SCP-4235. After a subject has finished their interaction with SCP-4235, they should be administered amnestics, as gained information from SCP-4235 may bring harm to the organization or the subject.

Description: SCP-4235 appears to be a regular iMac G3, color green. The artifact consists of SCP-4235-A, the computer itself, and SCP-4235-B, a keyboard and computer mouse. Attempts to remove the mouse from the keyboard have been unsuccessful. There is a single scuff mark on the right side of SCP-4235-A, 30 cm from the front panel, but the object is otherwise in perfect condition. SCP-4235 appears to be indestructible, and has withstood various tests performed by the foundation, such as drop tests, water tests, and physical stress tests. SCP-4235 varies from the design of a regular iMac G3 as the artifact has no cord, and seems to instead run on an internal battery. The source of power lasts up to 5 days, and afterword requires 5 days untouched to recharge.

Upon startup, SCP-4235-A displays an empty input box, as well as the word “CONTACT” above it. SCP-4235-B can then be used to input any word, name, or string of letters and numbers. Upon pressing the enter key, a loading bar will appear on SCP-4235-A’s screen along with the phrase “Dialing…”. When the loading bar has finished, one of the following outcomes will occur:

An empty chat room will appear on the artifact’s screen, with an input bar at the bottom and a chat log above.
The artifact’s screen will display “Unknown user,” and return to the initial start-up state.

When the name of a person (real or fictional), living creature, or sentient object is entered, outcome 1 will occur. If an object without sentience or a word/name that does not exist is entered, outcome 2 will occur.

If the chat room is opened, the subject will then be able to communicate with the person, creature, etc. using SCP-4235-B, and will receive responses via SCP-4235-A’s screen. The chat will go on until SCP-4235-A is powered off, the subject leaves the room (which returns the artifact to its initial start-up state), or the being which is being contacted leaves the chat (which returns the artifact to its initial start-up state).

Addendum 4235-1:
SCP-4235 was recovered on the 15th of April, 201█, after being unearthed in the Atlantic ocean by one of the foundation’s archaeology teams. After discovering SCP-4235, Captain █████, leader of the excavation, used it to contact “the true god.” Captain █████ was later found dead in his cabin with SCP-4235 in front of him. Captain █████ died of a gunshot fired from his own gun, and his death was decided to be a suicide. When his body was discovered, the chat room was still open. The rest of the team turned off the power to the object, and enclosed it in a spare crate they had for the dig.

Addendum 4235-2:
On the 2nd of July, 201█, subject entered “Charles Dickens.” SCP-4235-A displayed its loading state for approx. 56 minutes, until a chat room appeared. The subject was then presented with a list of questions to ask, such as their name, the date, and facts about their life. When confronted with their death, however, the contacted being became very confused, and eventually left the chat room.

It is difficult to determine if the subject was communicating with Charles Dickens, or merely a recreation of their personality. SCP-4235-A appeared to believe they were communicating with the subject on Charles Dickens’ death date, and subsequent tests show that any dead figures will leave when presented with the mention of their death. This has been tested on Anne Frank, Abraham Lincoln, Plato, as well as other notable historical figures, with similar results. The list of questions given to the subject was not finished before SCP-4235-A disconnected, but subsequent attempts to contact “Charles Dickens” have resulted in the artifact loading, opening a chat room, and then disconnecting immediately. Due to this, other dead figures have been confronted with their death last, so as to not miss the opportunity of asking important questions.

Addendum 4235-3:
On the 9th of July, 201█, subject entered “James.” SCP-4235-A displayed its loading state for approx. 5 minutes. After this time, a chat room opened. When the conversation finished, the subject reported they believed the contacted person to be their father (full name, James Matthew █████). The subject’s father was contacted, and claims to remember nothing of the 9th of July.

Addendum 4235-4:
On the 13th of July, 201█, subject entered “Stephen ███████,” a D-class employee. Stephen was kept in the same room as SCP-4235-A and the subject. SCP-4235-A displayed its loading state for approx. 30 seconds, after which, a chat room opened. Stephen then collapsed on the floor. As the conversation was carried out, Stephen appeared to be mouthing the responses just before they appeared on SCP-4235-A’s screen. After a psychological analysis of the responses given by SCP-4235-A, it is believed the responses were given by Stephen ███████. After the conversation was finished, Stephen did not regain consciousness until the artifact was powered off. He claims to remember nothing from the conversation.

Addendum 4235-4:
On the 19th of July, 201█, the subject entered “God.” This resulted in the prompt “Unknown User.” When the subject entered “Christian God,” however, they were connected after 3.5 hours. The same was true for a number of the hindu gods, “Jewish God,” “Islamic God,” and multiple gods from the Greek and Roman mythos. All connection times varied slightly, but were within a range of 2-6 hours. Personalities of the different gods varied according to the mythos surrounding them. Three subjects were brought in on the 19th of July, as each previous subject had gone mad due to responses given to the questions: [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and “What is my purpose?”. Amnestics failed to remove this knowledge, and they have yet to recover from their insanity.
