Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a strong plastic/polymer case with a rubberised shell to prevent potential release of the XXXX-1 compound.
Note:If SCP-XXXX’s case has fallen,dropped or mishandled in any way it is to be immediately inspected in a non metallic environment for damage and replacement of its case.
After experimenting on SCP-XXXX or SCP-XXXX-1 all test subjects and personnel are to undergo extensive decontamination procedures to avoid the accidental exposure of the SCP-XXXX-1 compound to critical systems. See Audio log entry 6-07-1997.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a large solar panel resembling those used on Mars rovers. This solar panel is coated in what seems like naturally occurring rust that if scraped off, will regenerate seemingly out of nowhere.
This “Rust” is noted as SCP-XXXX-1, and has a very unique property to eat away and spread to all kinds of metals it comes into contact with, even Gold.
History:
SCP-XXXX was retrieved via ███████████ on July 4th, when foundation agents embedded in NASA were alerted to a camera feed from the Mars rover showing what appeared to be a solar panel half buried in the sand on Mars.
Upon Retrieving the solar panel from ███████ agents were immediately made aware of its effects when the metal examining table below the object began to rust. The object kept on corroding the table until it fell through hitting the floor and corroding the metal floor.
SCP-XXXX eventually stopped when it hit the concrete surface underneath the floor.
Note: SCP-XXXX-1 did not stop, and started corroding the metal interior of the room. Due to a compromise in structural integrity caused by SCP-XXXX-1, agents rushed to exit the room along with two researchers present at the time.
Before personnel could evacuate the room, Dr.Mace was pinned against fallen rubble, as well as Agent Franks. Agent Mayers managed to help Agent Franks to safety, though by the time Agent Mayers could attempt to help Dr.Mace, the room had caved in.
On the 5/22/1997 an attempt was made by the Foundation involving a psychic to "see" into the past and present on Mars at certain times and coordinates. The psychic David stated that there were "structures and roads" on Mars.
David also mentioned seeing a "tall, grey beings" according to logs the one being said the phrase "dust and rust" continuously. See log 5-22-1997.
Note:These beings match no known race in Foundation records.
Due to the experiment in log 5-22-1997 being about Mars, the foundation deemed it acceptable to conduct an investigation of the coordinates produced, to make sure humanity was not under threat.
When the mission to send a rover to Mars was announced foundation agents in NASA made it possible for the rovers landing coordinates to be near the set mentioned in 5-22-1997.
With this new evidence it is hypothesised that whatever caused the destruction and subsequent annihilation of the "beings" and civilisation on Mars thousands of years ago, had to be the storm mentioned or, something inside it, like SCP-XXXX-1.
It is speculated that SCP-XXXX-1 is the likely cause as to why no visible structures or land marks can be seen on the Martian surface today.
As for SCP-XXXX the solar panel, one plausible hypothesis, is that the panel itself is stuck in some time loop or stasis. This would account for why it looks brand new as well as when brushing off SCP-XXXX-1 from it's surface regenerates back into the state it was found in.
However the Panel managed to make it to the Martian surface it must have come into contact with the original storm carrying SCP-XXXX-1 when it got stuck in its possible time loop/stasis, hence why the rust regenerates.

Entry of 5-22-1997
Note: Experiment was conducted before discovery of SCP-XXXX.
Dr Chase: "Thank you for Volunteering for this experiment David, do you have any questions before we begin?".
David:"A couple actually. What is it Im actually meant to be doing and Why Mars?".
Dr Chase:"Good questions David, simply put we want you to "see" Mars or anything on it more precisely, and tell us in detail what you see. And as to why Mars? Lets just say my organisation has certain interests and duties regarding recent and upcoming events. Lets get started shall we?."
"We want you to start in the present and tell us what you see."
David:"Ok….Noting just sand and dust."
Dr Chase:"That's fine. 100 years ago try looking there."
David:"More sand and dust, but something strange. as if it isn't meant to be there. Its to hazy to see clearly."
Dr Chase:"Interesting. Try going back say 1000 years, drastic i know but call me curious."
David:"Ill try but no promises. Ok Im seeing something more clearly now, its large…and metallic the rest is covered in sand."
Dr Chase muttering to colleague:"Could potentially be something, note it down for now."
Dr Chase:"Ok David I want you to see further than you have before, i want you to see 10,000 years into Mars's past."
David:"Ill try but im not promising anything substantial that's a stretch even for me. Holly cow".
Dr Chase:"What is it David what do you see?"
David:"I see structures… roads, cities, monuments, but…"
Dr Chase:"But what David?"
David:"I see a storm, a large one. Jesus that storm, its huge, its covering the planet. The roads, the buildings are slowly being destroyed everything turned to dust. Wait the monuments they aren't affected just the city and buildings that were shiny and tall. I see people strange people running as the city collapses around them, hundreds, thousands, so many screams."
Dr Chase:"Note, subject is showing visible signs of distress." "What else do you see?"
David:"Bodies…so many bodies, lying in the sand and dust motionless…wait i hear a voice."
Dr Chase:" Other than mine? Whats it saying?"
David:"Its muffled…its saying…"dust and rust" over and over, non stop. Its getting louder."
Dr Chase:"Try to calm down, do you see who is speaking?"
David:"It hurts, my head. Something tall and grey speaking."
Dr Chase:"Note, subject is showing increased signs of pain."
"Ok David you're doing fine. Earlier you mentioned you saw something large and metallic, is it there now?"
David:"Yeah it is, its hard to see but its there…its large and metallic and blue, with a pattern like one on a kilt. Half buried in sand. My head it hurts."
Dr Chase:"can you give us coordinates to this object David?"
David:"4.5 degrees south latitude, 137.4 degrees east longitude."
Dr Chase:"Thank you David, now look..Oh Shit!"
"Note, subject has fallen off his chair and laying on the ground unconscious, with visible bleeding from the nose."

Entry of 6-08-1997
Dr Chase:“Experimentation was underway to see what SCP-XXXX-1 would react with.
We tried all elements on the periodic table, alloys,compounds and acids. The only things SCP-XXXX-1 seems to react with is metal, weather it be iron,steel,titanium or gold, literally anything metal will corrode from this stuff which makes containing it much more difficult.
Fascinatingly though basic metals like iron corrode almost instantly but others like titanium take slightly longer, we still cant use any metal to store SCP-XXXX-1 but fascinating nonetheless.”

Dr Chase:“Dr █████ didn't realise some of the “cosmic rust” as were now calling it was on one of his gloves hanging in his pocket, as he got out into the hallway one of them fell onto the floor causing mass corrosion. It's important to note that due to the metals that make up the facilities structure the rust took considerably longer to corrode than expected”.

Dr Chase:“Radiocarbon dating that has been tested on the rust collected naturally generating from SCP-XXXX has strangely led to the conclusion that the solar panel came from roughly 10,000 years in the past, yet the panel itself looks brand new. This is intriguing yet worrying as the first rover to use this kind of panel didn't land on Mars until 1997. Further investigation is underway to note and find if any temporal anomalies have cropped up recently. This one is a real head-scratcher”.

Entry of 12-08-1997
Dr Chase:"Dr Keep had an unfortunate incident today. As we were experimenting with SCP-XXXX and XXXX-1 some of the rubberised coating on Dr Keep's prosthetic arm had worn away, this lead to accidental exposure of the XXXX-1 compound on a metallic portion of his arm. You'd think that since it was a prosthetic he'd be fine, but no. Dr Keep's arm was given to him using some tech and techniques by the foundation which allowed him to feel and touch like any other arm would.
What i still cant get out of my head is his screams, it slowly ate away at his arm. Imagine what it would feel like to have you're arm taken from you piece by piece slowly and agonisingly. Currently im waiting on further developments on his condition".
