Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a secure containment locker in room A22 on the second level of Site-███. It is only to be removed from its containment for testing purposes approved by O-█ personnel or higher via an approval form detailing time and intent surrounding the experiment(s). When testing is completed, SCP-XXXX must be packaged in a clear plastic container lined with 1 cm of sound-proof foam padding. The power cable is to be wrapped around a small spool, with the prongs covered by a small plastic cap. Under no circumstances is SCP-XXXX to be connected to any service lines without express consent by staff manager on duty. See TPA-34 Article-IV for more information.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a vintage Stromberg Carlson SC 500-D black rotary telephone and address book with a spiral spine. The phone cannot make calls to existing telephones on the same service line. When connected to a power source, SCP-XXXX will ring until it is picked up. In all instances a male voice has been detected on the other end. This voice always seems to be in an elevated state of stress and in some cases has displayed panic. The individual does not respond to questions, or statements. The man describes a scene of a crime using vague details such as street names, or the nature of what he had apparently seen. The messages are not pre-recorded as the male will respond to vocal stimuli in various experiments, but not deviate from his description of the crime. After the male is finished describing the scene, he will relay a series of three numbers, following this the call will be dropped, and no further calls will be placed until the phone is disconnected and reconnected from both its power source and service line.
The book is 19.8 cm x 16.5 cm, and is connected from the spine to the middle of the receiver cord via a 30 cm black shoelace. Its surface is a black leather composite that is unmarked on both covers. Inside the book is 122 pages of handwritten geographical coordinates in extremely small font, requiring a magnifying glass for proper viewing. These vary from the cities of Chicago, Detroit, Miami, and several other smaller US towns. Some appear to be international and nautical. Every page is filled with two columns and twenty rows of the aforementioned coordinates from bottom to top, all differing without repeats, with a fine tipped black gel-based pen. Page one contains a single name written in cursive script, which reads, ██████. From page 2-83, every coordinate has been neatly checked off with a horizontal strike through. From pages 84-115 the coordinates are no longer checked off in order, and are more sporadic in nature. From page 116-122, all coordinates remain unchecked. See Addendum-I for details regarding further analysis.
SCP-XXXX was recovered from █████, Melbrook Ave, ██████, ████████, TX after a call to the local police department was placed detailing an alleged suicide. A visit to the house yielded nothing, as the owner was still very much alive. Later that week, he was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, holding SCP-XXXX's receiver in one hand. After several calls received by SCP-XXXX, the local police department agreed to relinquish confiscation of the phone and book to an SCP operative on site.
Addendum-I: After several trials, SCP-XXXX has shown to relay crucial information regarding local area crime. When SCP-XXXX is connected to an areas local phone lines, the call will originate from a location within this area. The male voice is still the same, however depending on the geographical location, the dialect will differ. For instance, if the call was received near Boston, Massachusetts, the voice will carry the same vernacular as a typical citizen of that area.
The numbers listed at the end of each call correspond to a specific set of coordinates in the book. The first number will correspond to page number, the second will relate to line, and the third for column. This will display a specific coordinate point in latitude and longitude. Approximately two to three days after the respective call is dropped, a crime will have been committed. Eight times out of ten the crime will involve loss of human life.
On rare occasions, the crime that will incidentally take place can be heard as background noise during the call. See log-15.
