Item Number: SCP-(numbers)

Object Class: Euclid - Sentient

Special Containment Procedures:

Object must be kept in a galvanized safe, at or under 0° C, with gamma radiation sensors placed 1m above. Locking mechanisms must be changed on a weekly basis, or when object attempts to escape. Object must be fed 20 kg of uranium three (3) times a month. Class-D personnel assigned to SCP-(no.) must wear hazmat suits equipped with temperature regulation systems, and must not stay inside SCP-(no.)'s chamber more than 15 minutes. In the event the subject(s) start feeling nauseous, they may take a 1-hour break, and if radiation poisoning ensues may be replaced by other Class-D personnel.

If SCP-(no.) succeeds in escaping, either due to its own volition or being confiscated by SCP-(no.)-A, all non-essential staff members will be evacuated to the nearest offsite location; Essential staff members include assigned research scientists, medical teams and Mobile Task Force (MTF) members. Hazmat suits and tasers will be handed out to essential personnel to aid in self-protection and the apprehension of any instances of SCP-(no.)-A. Once SCP-(no.)-A has been apprehended, Class-A amnestics will be administered and SCP-(no.)-A will be transferred to another facility.

SCP-(no.) may be located using the gamma rays it produces in its active state, or by using more conventional methods if it becomes inactive during containment breach. Due to its size, it may rest in lockers or under desks, where it may become active again and cause damage to facility equipment. In the event of a containment breach, SCP-(no.) is considered top priority, no matter the circumstances.

Description:

In its inactive state, SCP-(no.) often appears as a matte black cylinder, approximately 8cm by 5cm and bloated in the middle; Other appearances include cuboids and other prisms. In its active state, it begins to heat up and emit gamma radiation, as its insides begin nuclear fission. While active, it becomes malleable and autonomous, and attempts to escape to the nearest source of nuclear power in order to reproduce.

During covert power plant examinations, SCP-(no.) was found in Pripyat's Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the USSR, feeding off the leftover uranium in the reactors. MTF-██ was called onto the scene wearing full hazmat suits, and used (data expunged) to immobilize the object for transportation. During transportation, Agent ███████ caused the vehicle to crash and attempted to escape with SCP-(no.). After apprehension and interrogation, the cause was determined to be telepathic persuasion by SCP-(no.), through unknown means.

SCP-(no.) displays not only sentience but intelligence, as it can learn how to unlock its safe, albeit slowly. If it cannot find a way to unlock the safe, it will resort to other means, including:

  • Telepathic persuasion, even when dormant
  • Melting through the safe
  • Nuclear explosions with a yield of 15 megatons1

Current Lead Researcher Dr. Aleksander has advised containment engineers to keep the safe "challenging, yet beatable" so as to prevent explosions, and to observe the object's learning process more closely.

SCP-(no.) can produce white prehensile tendrils which pass through solid matter. These give it the dexterity required to unlock safes, open cabinets and use control panels, making it even more dangerous. However, it's most effective tool has been SCP-(no.)-A; Individuals controlled through telepathy. SCP-(no.)-A will feel the urge to "free" the object, or to destroy it through paradoxical means. Below is a test log on SCP-(no.):
