Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

Description: SCP-XXXX is a previously undocumented 10 m x 10 m x 10 m containment unit found during monthly maintenance of Site-28's third basement level. SCP-XXXX is identical to other such structures within Site-28 with the exception of its unusual dimensions and the presence of a terminal directly connected to its entrance, henceforth SCP-XXXX-1.

Any sapient entity to enter SCP-XXXX while not being listed as an employee of the Foundation within official records will be rendered unresponsive indefinitely and henceforth be reclassified as SCP-XXXX-A. Instances of SCP-XXXX-A continue to exhibit any vital functions they may possess and will expire normally if its needs, metabolic or otherwise, are not tended to.

SCP-XXXX-1 is identical to Model Aleph Foundation terminals used in most containment facilities from 1975 and 1979, exhibiting no anomalous properties until an attempt to access the function "beholder.c" is made, at which point sapient beings in its vicinity will experience an elaborate yet consistent audiovisual hallucination. Video footage recorded during such attempts reveal no changes on SCP-XXXX-1's screen as corroborated by remote inspection of the aforementioned function - see Addendum A for further details.

SCP-XXXX-1's hallucinogenic effects have being documented extensively and, while the exact events described by D class personnel during each test varied, the data gathered so far has been deemed sufficiently congruous to accurately describe it as thus:

- If an attempt to run the "beholder.c" function is made while no entities capable of triggering SCP-XXXX's primary effect are present inside of it, sentient beings in the vicinity of SCP-XXXX-1 will report the terminal's screen showing the empty interior of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX is not equipped with CCTV.

- If, however, an applicable entity is present inside SCP-XXXX, those effected by its hallucinogenic properties will report that, instead, the terminal's screen now displays what appears to be a Foundation researcher conducting an interview with the entity in question. Such interviews proceed as those conducted according to standard Foundation protocol would up until the interviewed invariably breaches containment, often inflicting deadly harm upon the interviewer. The hallucination persists until the effected look away from the terminal, repeating indefinitely otherwise.

Further testing has been able to identify additional recurrent themes in the hallucinations experienced shortly after SCP-XXXX's primary effect has been triggered.

  • The interviewed often speaks and behaves in a disdainful, mockingly and/or overconfident manner towards the interviewer, even in cases where the SCP-XXXX-A instance had a positive relationship with Foundation personnel.
  • The interviewed frequently answers truthfully, albeit on a condescendingly cryptic way to the questions of the interviewer. Additionally, anomalous entities that possess or would be able to supernaturally gleam knowledge deemed disturbing or unsettling to the interviewer will often disclose it.
  • The appearance of the interviewer changes each time the hallucination is experienced with only the Foundation atire remaining consistent.
  • If the hallucination is observed for extended periods of time, the reported behavior of the interviewer will progressively change: Usually starting after the eighth repetition, the interviewer will reportedly smile broadly during the interview, even during the breach event. Most personnel tested reports that, by the the tenth repetition, the interviewer simply laughs in a manner described as "hysterical" (D-308, D-310, D-410) and "unnerving" (D-520).

Addendum A: Using a remotely controlled drone, it has been ascertained that once the input to execute SCP-XXXX-1's "beholder.c" function has been entered, the terminal will simply open and display a non-anomalous text file containing the phrase
