Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: Keep SCP-XXXX contained in a simulated forest and cave environment. Specimens require solar light to survive in a healthy capacity, they will get upset and unhealthy otherwise, experiencing molting and dry scales. Multiple specimens are required to live in a single contained area, no more than five. Due to a short, fifteen-year life span, SCP-XXXX is allowed to breed and hatch at least a single egg when a specimen reaches the end of its life. Specimens are required to be fed live prey, including large rats or small deer, the specimens enjoy hunting live prey and refuse to touch frozen food or carcasses.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a meter and a half tall and two meters long. Specimens are usually colored with dark blue or dark green scales with yellow markings along the sides of their bodies. These yellow markings can emit a low yellow glow, and flash brightly when the specimens are hunting, or when they are threatened. SCP-XXXX also have bioluminescent feathers on their heads, backs, forearms, and shins, as well as the tips of their tails. These feathers glow slightly, like embers, in the dark and flash along with the yellow markings. There is an aesthetic difference between Males and Females purely in color of feathers, with males being mostly pink and orange and females being teal and green, all tipped with white.
The skeletal structure of SCP-XXXX is similar to Procompsognathus Triassicus and Velociraptor Mongoliensis, with a triangular head, S-curved neck, and a bipedal stance. Specimens occasionally move on all fours. They have a sickle-like claw on both feet and long curved middle foreclaws, similar to the talons on Bryonyx Walkeri. On dissection of the few dead specimens that we have, it was discovered that SCP-XXXX has two sets of injector fangs, a set on the upper mandibles and a set on the lower mandibles. These injector fangs are connected to a sack of paralyzing non-lethal poison set into the skulls. Samples have been collected for further testing.
Upon inspection of the inside of the mouth, two glands were found and when we watched the specimens inside confinement, we discovered why they were there. During a hunt, SCP-XXXX will spit a web-like substance at prey, ensnaring them and keeping them sedated until it moves in for the kill. When we tested the substance on subjects, they described the feeling as an irritating burn, and the strands kept their arms firmly locked. One said that it "felt like he just didn't want to move his arms" and that his "joins just were locked in place."
SCP-XXXX is extraordinarily friendly and has shown full cooperation when treated kindly. D-Class personnel have interacted with them and have reported that they act similarly to large, friendly dogs. They have shown an affinity for canine level learning, and some have even been taught simple commands, like fetch and sit. A few have formed attachments to certain subjects and show a higher level of pleasure when around them. They are, however, too friendly to be used effectively in preventing any sort of containment breach.
Addendum: SCP-XXXX seems to be a previously unknown dinosaur specimen, but we have not discovered how, or if, it fits into the evolutionary chain. The first five specimens were found outside of Prescot, Arizona on August 16th, 1990. Reports said that they had simply been playing outside the mouth of a cave and would occasionally come closer to a few of the homes on the outskirts, playing with dogs, cats and children. The collection was simple and easy and they did prove to be difficult to contain at first. Their intelligence proved a challenge for consultants but eventually, we discovered the kind of environment that they seemed to enjoy the most.
Upon further investigation of the cave, we discovered SCP-XXXX-A, which seemed to be an alien structure made of a metallic stone, carved with triangular symbols and patterns, glowing green. One of the operatives attempted to touch the machine and promptly disappeared. The rest of the team got out when the portal began to flash red, collapsing in on itself and collapsing the cave. All attempts at digging the machine out have been met with no positive results.
