Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

Because it is currently impossible to remove SCP-XXXX from the building it resides in, containment must be on site. The villa is to be walled off with barbed wire fence, and several Private Property signs to discourage bystanders trespassing. Security cameras are to be installed on the fences outside of property lines to prevent being tampered with by SCP-XXXX. Trespassers are to be dealt with by contacting local authorities to be removed from the property lines.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a small bronze statuette of an Ancient Roman Lar measuring at 48 centimeters in height, and weighing at 54.5 kilograms. The statuette resides within a villa approximately 5 kilometers from [DATA EXPUNGED], Italy, on the mantle of the main fireplace in the central room of the building. Property records in the city records of [DATA EXPUNGED] state that the villa was constructed in the late 14th Century by the [REDACTED] family. The villa was sold in 1899, and has since been bought and sold a total of 57 times until it was acquired by the Foundation in 2003, when it became aware of the villa’s anomalous properties via rumors of the villa being haunted, coupled with abnormally high frequencies of police reports and transaction records between occupants and various home improvement, repair, and utility companies.

When purchased by the Foundation, all items were removed from the premises, including the statuette now classified as SCP-XXXX for study at Site [REDACTED]. During transport, the statuette vanished from the containment box it was placed in when the villa was cleared. Field Agents who later revisited the villa discovered SCP-XXXX resting back on the mantle it was recovered from. Subsequent attempts to remove SCP-XXXX from the property were met with the subsequent disappearance and reappearance of the statuette on the mantle of the villa. The furniture recovered by the Foundation was subsequently tested for further anomalies, yielded no results, and were subsequently returned to the villa for further on site testing. (See Experiment Log XXXX-A)

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties, in addition to its inability to be transported from the premises of the villa, are mischievous in nature, and begin to manifest when a human being is occupying the villa of the statuette after a period of 24 hours. Once 24 hours have passed, any person within the property lines of the villa will experience a variety of unexplained phenomena.

Occurrences documented by testing and public records include, but are not limited to;

  • Random disappearances of items belonging to the current occupant. Items remained missing until a new occupant moved into the villa, where the missing items would be found within the first week.
  • Fluctuations of the temperature within the villa. Occupants noted that it was always too hot, or too cold. Records of local air conditioning companies display abnormally high visits from repairmen to the villa.
  • Electronics that were off while occupants were absent from the villa would switch on. A long history of angry phone call transcripts between previous occupants and local power companies were recovered.
  • Loud dripping from faucets around the house that only occur when the occupant is attempting to sleep. Plumbing companies in [DATA EXPUNGED] all have records of occupants attempting to have them fixed.
  • Slow to unresponsive wireless internet. Researchers note that SCP-XXXX has no issues adapting to new technologies introduced to the villa.

Anything hung on the walls will be tilted slightly off centre. One previous owner was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive DIsorder, and suffered a mental breakdown on [REDACTED], 2001 after living in the villa for eight months.

During initial testing of SCP-XXXX, researchers noted that it possesses the ability to change its facial expression to a variety of emotions, which was discovered after the fifth attempt to remove the statuette from its villa by Agent Argo, who pointed out that its facial expression had changed from what appeared to be happy, to mildly annoyed. Following this discovery, a camera was installed in the villa, trained on SCP-XXXX and transmitting a direct video feed to researchers in a second villa 0.75 kilometers east of the containment site. When fast forwarding footage of SCP-XXXX, researchers noted that its facial expression changes extremely slowly, regardless of if it is being viewed by another entity. This, in conjunction to its behavior towards people who occupy the house, suggests that the entity within the statuette is intelligent. Efforts are underway to try and communicate with SCP-XXXX. Shortly after the statuette’s face ceased movement, the camera was knocked over by an unseen force, and broke when impacting the floor.

Experiment Log XXXX-A

Records of attempts to remove SCP-XXX3 from the premesis of the villa. All attempts were met with the exact same results; SCP-XXX3 teleporting back to its position on the mantle of the villa.

  • Attempt 1: Transportation within a standard Safe object class transportation box
    • Note: SCP-XXXX vanished at an unknown time during transportation. It was not discovered as missing until reaching Site [REDACTED]].
  • Attempt 2: Transportation while being held by a Foundation Agent
    • Note: Agent August was sleeping while holding SCP-XXX3 in transport. The statuette teleported back to its villa approx. 28 minutes after departure. Treatment for minor head injury was administered by Foundation medics. Foundation Personnel are advised to not lean on SCPs while sleeping during transport missions.
  • Attempt 3: Bolting SCP-XXX3 to stainless steel block weighing apx. 500 kilograms.
    • Note: SCP-XXX3 and the block both vanished from the truck. SCP-XXX3 was found on its mantle approx. 30 minutes after departure, notably with the drill holes made absent. The block appeared within the villa’s courtyard on the foot of Agent August, who was subsequently treated for several bone fractures in his right foot. Agent August was directed to be transferred to another project once his foot was fully healed.
  • Attempt 4: Removing the mantle with SCP-XXX3 still resting upon it.
    • Note: Approximately 45 minutes after departure, both SCP-XXX3 and its mantle were displaced back to the villa, with 100% of the damage sustained to the items repaired. Personnel on site noted that there was no sound or displacement of air when SCP-XXX3 repaired its spot. The statuettes face appeared to be in a state of annoyance or distress.
  • Attempt 5: Welding SCP-XXX3 to the bed of a Foundation transportation truck.
    • Note: Denied by head researcher before attempt was made. SCP-XXX3 was officially logged to be impossible to remove from its containment site.//
